Billing Surprise

KyleranKyleran Member LegendaryPosts: 44,095

So back in early May I decided to quit playing that "other" new MMORPG, and spend the money to try out the ArcheAge alpha, and I've been having a good time so far.

But today I was paying bills and came across a balance of $14.99 on a card that I had paid off to zero recently.

Took a look at the statement and found that I was charged on May 2nd for a one month subscription to Rift, apparently because when I logged into Glyph I used my old Trion/Rift account ID.

Doesn't seem to be a way to actually phone them, so when I get home later I'll have to open a ticket or live chat and see about getting it reversed.

Will let you know how it all turns out.

So I reached out to live chat today, and it was in fact a billing error (transcript below) which occurred when I updated the Security information on my former Trion/Rift account.  (edited my real name and some CC details out of the chat)

So you might want to check your credit card billing records if you updated your old account while purchasing Archeage.

Note, they resisted at first, but I pressed home my case and got the refund.

Does press home the point that I should have removed all credit card information when cancelling Rift back in 2012.

GM Zimsy: I have taken a look at your account, and I am, unfortunately, unable to refund the 1 month subscription. The Founder's Pack was purchased on April 28th, and the subscription, that is a reoccurring charge, was set up prior to this point and charged again on the 1st of May.
image GM Zimsy: What I can do is cancel the subscription so it will not charge again.
image Kyle: how was it set up prior to that point? I didn't log into Trion and set it up?
image Kyle: Seems like the billing system automatically charged it without any sort of authorization
image Kyle: when do you think this authorized or reactivated?
image Kyle: From what I'm reading, all of the new transcational stuff happened starting 5/2/2014
image Kyle: on 4/28 it shows a 3 day game access code being applied, which I didn't authorize or even do
image GM Zimsy: The 3 day game access code is applied to RIFT for updating your security information.
image Kyle: ok, I did do that
image Kyle: but I didn't authorize them to charge my card
image Kyle Interestingly enough, if you'll note, the card that was charged had an expiration date of xx/201x, yet somehow you were able to charge the new card
image GM Zimsy: I believe I see what you are saying, one moment, please.
image GM Zimsy: It does appear that the cycle was triggered from logging into the website and updating your information. I have received permission to refund this as a one time courtesy and I apologize for the trouble. It should clear in 3 to 5 business days.
image GM Zimsy: May I assist you with anything else today?

Not the first billing miss in a MMO, but thanks for the heads up. :)

Hmm, says 0 here. Should I be worried as well? Won't bother unless it said 0 for you as well, but was drawn from you'r CC.

You are probably fine, I noticed it when 14.99 showed up on my CC this month, (dated May 2nd) when I expecting a zero balance.  A quick check of the Glyph records will show if you have any transactions and while you are there you can remove any credit cards you might have on file if you wish.

I deleted my CC just in case since Trion has already been hacked and my LOTRO account and NCSOFT accounts were hacked
