I know a few people who had this problem and it went away with gunnar optiks, and while I would never recommend you get them for just gaming, they do tend to really help with eye strain and motion sickness when using monitors up so close. It would be worth a try before you drop the big bucks on a special monitor.

I also downloaded and installed F.lux software thanks DM. If all this works Deus EX Revolution and BioShock is in my future. I am not comfortable taking drugs though plus my husband will probably kill me if he finds out I am taking pills to play video games.

I was playing another game for a couple of hours without any headache or dizziness before logging into ESO and I will try to play another game today to see if I get the headache.

Just got done playing Renegade X (great game for you command and conquer lovers by the way) in FPS mode for around two hours. No problem.

It's ESO's wonky third person mode that is causing it for sure.

I too cant play FPS because of getting a bad headache after a short time unless im just determined to suffer thru it. So with ESO i thought hey i can play 3rd person and ill be fine, but oh no not even close. After a while i couldnt bare to stare a the game screen anymore and if i did i was miserable but determined to play it to try it out more. You are not alone with the way this game makes you feel while playing it.

I also have the same headache and dizziness issues when playing FPS games.

When I bought the ESO collector's edition, I had high hopes of getting into a brand new MMORPG.  I was so disappointed that the third person view is not truly third person.  To me, a third person view is when I can see around my character, in the same manner World of Warcraft or Final Fantasy did it.

In short, the whole screen is not supposed to move when I move my mouse.  That made me dizzy within 10 minutes of playing the game.  And no, I did not play the beta.

I looked in vain to see if there are any mods that could keep my environment static and only move my character when I move my mouse.  To date, I have not found one.  It is just the design of ESO.  I love the game, the mechanics, the visual effects, storylines, and its immersing style.  However, I could not get past not getting dizzy.

I loved the spindle and the other dungeon that came after it.  But it was very uncomfortable playing so I had a burf bag/can nearby.  I did finish both dungeons in back-to-back succession but had to lie down afterwards.

I can understand that its gameplay is possibly due to pvp play too, in the limitation of not seeing what is coming from behind.  While I understand that mechanic, it was still very disappointing to not be able to play this awesome game.  Anyway, I will be cancelling my membership soon and I wish everyone to have fun!

Okay here is what happened I felt dizzy and got a headache I normally get from playing FPS which I cannot play for more than 10 minutes . Even the Deus Ex the recent game I was unable to play although I truly wanted to and was very sad I could not because of this problem.

I am using third person and not first person view so I do not understand why I got this headache. I was fighting a lot and I was moving around and jerking around a lot to avoid attacks and stuff and often my view point would become like first person when a rock or something is behind me. I noticed after awhile fighting in some goblin cave nausea. I was puzzled and when I logged off I realised it was exactly what happened when I tried to play half life or any fps. Is there anything I can do to reduce this. Do I pan off further to avoid this ? Is there some mod I can use to adjust the field of view. Is this my own fault for jerking around or is there anyway I can reduce this ?

I had the exact same problem playing this game. I had never had this problem with any other game and i couldn't put my finger on it. I could only play in one hour bursts before i started getting dizzy and a headache.

I finally found what was responsible to my problem , and that was the view distance and the depth of field. After putting my view distance down to 50 from 100 (max) and disabling the depth of view in the video settings the problem went away for me. Try reducing the distance view if you have not already, it might help.

I don't even know why i was even getting dizzy and headaches by having the view distance maxed and the depth of view on. I assume it was because i was seeing too much on the screen at once. No idea.

I feel for the OP. I don't have any issues myself but a friend of mine has problems with FPS. Strangely she loves skyrim and has no issues but plays in third person. It seems as long as she is in third person view she is ok.

I'll give that a go for my wife as she has exactly the same problem....she cannot play FPS games at all due to getting those motion sickenss type symptoms after about 15 mins. Thats no biggie as she does not really like FPS games but sadly for her, playing Minecraft triggers the exact same response and cannot join in when playing that game which she loves with our children.

Thanks for the tips in this thread everyone :)

Thanks for the advice Wolf-Heart but I ended up not buying the game. I will keep it in mind if I do.

Biggest load of crap I have read in the longest time.

First off, you come to MMORPG.com for medical advice or for advice about the game?  Because you aren't going to get either here.  This is a marketing platform.  Maybe not what it  was meant to be but certainly what it turned out to be for sure.

One would think then, if you really had a problem with the game, that you would go to the GAME forums.  I mean isn't that where such a thing SHOULD be reporeted?  Why come here then?

Oh, and that female persona is not fooling ANYONE.

So yeah, you get the spins or some shit when you play video games but you don't want anyone to think that's a freaking PROBLEM?!?!

NOTE TO KIDS READING THIS - IF YOU GET THE SPINS WHEN YOU PLAY VIDEO GAMES......THAT IS A PROBLEM!!!

Tell your folks, go see a doctor, get some new glasses or whatever you have to do to keep from ending up some drooling vegetable in front of your monitor one day.

This string is not only dumb but dangerous.  To use a REAL MEDICAL CONDITION as some kind of PLOY to talk shit about a GAME is not only unethical but downright EVIL.

I repeat,  if you have some form of ACTUAL PHYSICAL REACTION to playing ANY KIND OF VIDEO GAME, SEE YOUR DOCTOR.

    That is all.

You guys lock strings for the dumbest reasons but you let some crap like this continue.

Actually, first off, i'd recommend seeing an optician, even if you do not need glasses. Opticians eye tests can detect issues/health problems with your eyes etc, that doctors are just not equipped to do so, at least at a general practitioner level. Games generally do not cause health issues, unless there is one already present, what they can do, is exacerbate ones you already have. So get it checked out ASP. image
