I had total fun in the open beta!

TerriusTerrius Member Posts: 14

No computer game is perfect or pleases everyone.. no worries :)

But, I had total fun with the comedy, the immersion, the secondary skills (soldier, settler, scientist, explorer) the deep crafting where the crafted items are superior to drops and HOUSING!!.. lots of options/drops/purchases for your very own home.. :)

No, it's not perfect, it doesn't seem to please the hardcore or the PVP'rs, yet.. but frankly, it's brand new, and the no one has reached max level in beta... so we'll really have to see endgame after launch..

but, I had fun, forgot about life for a few hours, and even tho I knew that all my toons were going to be deleted.. I was totally addicted and couldn't stop playing..

so, I'll be seeing you all on May 31st!..

Plz could you tell me if each class has 2 roles ? Is there 1role only class? (Rogue/demonist in WoW). My thread derailed in a massive flame war about cartoons being not hardcore..or hardcore being no cartoon...whatever.

    Thank you !

  • catch2twocatch2two Member Posts: 19
yes there are more than one role to most the classes. It has a talent tree-like system where you can improve your support abilities, assault, defence, pvp. and you can customize which abilities to "Enhance" whether it be a DPS ability, heal or Defence/taunt.
  • CopypasterinoCopypasterino Member Posts: 66

Oh ok didnt get that. Well if you mean that a stalker(=rogue) can tank in PVE this is really nice.

    Thank you

  • Lord.BachusLord.Bachus Member RarePosts: 9,686

    every class has 3 trees...

    a DPS tree named Assault

a Tanking or Healing tree named Support

    a Utillity/CC tree named Utillity

Every tree has 10 active skills that you get to choose from

Basically you get to choose 8 skills and end up with a mix from the 3 trees, everything in between is possible

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

I think there are many options not fully explored because it's only beta.

but yes, there's three basic trees to each toon.. so you can basically be assault DPS... tankish.. or healing.. or a hybrid.. a little like what ESO is doing, only different..

I think it limits the "need" to roll alts to fit a role, meaning you can be a healer AND a tank, which I did with my warrior

I think alts will be for rolling the secondary classes of soldier, scientist, settler and explorer.. I could not find a way for one toon to do more than the one of those...

even one toon can do more than one crafting discipline.. so you won't need to max level alts for that either.. I don't know about endgame, as I'm sure there will be some super leet gear there, but crafted gear to L25 was better than gold challenge drops, from what I saw :)

    see you guys ingame :)

Each class has two primary roles:

    Warrior: DPS, Tank

    Engineer: DPS, Tank

    Stalker: DPS, Tank

    Medic: DPS, Heal

    Spellslinger: DPS, Heal

    Esper: DPS, Heal

All classes are competitive at each of their primary role (ie, don't be fooled by the "medic" class name. They have pretty badass DPS). And that means yes, every class can be DPS, and half of them can be either tank or healer. What this does in effect (and in my own experience during the beta) is that you never have to worry about filling your dungeon groups, there's always someone that can switch a few skills and they're ready to go.

Also, a personal note here: healing is FUN. I've been playing a Spellslinger Healer and will be my launch class/role, because it's nothing like UI minigames that it is in most other mmo's. In Wildstar Healing is fun and intense.

My opinion is my own. I respect all other opinions and views equally, but keep in mind that my opinion will always be the best for me. That's why it's my opinion.

After spending in healing more than 70% of my overall played time the last 15 years, i was thinking to play a Warrior or Stalker in WS, just to avoid healing. But when i played as Esper and a bit of Medic i changed my mind and once again healing will be my way :)

Healing in Wildstar is very stressful especially in dungeons.

    1) The telegraphs make healers spend a lot of time dodging as well.

    2) Interrupt armor requires healers to use interrupts in certain fights.

    3) The game is filled with raid-like mechanics which put extra stress on healers in 5-man content.

I can see this as a huge challenge especially for pugs where people sacrifice personal utility for deeps/aggro and are slacking in terms of focusing in the fight to avoid as much damaage as possible.

Overall the dungeons require the whole 5-man team to be on their toes which is _very_ different from other themeparks.

I'd definately roll a tank/dps over heal/dps if I wanted more "relaxed" role.

That scares me Golden I am a horrible twitch player. I suck at dodging and trying to heal at the same time. I was reluctant to get the game but went ahead anyway. I want the challenge but am worried am not up to it and I cannot play a tank I suck horribly at tanking. I can only play healers well. I can move around but not if it requires doing back flips and over lava and stuff and floor falling away as I move and me leaping which I actually saw on some of the videos. ARGH !!!! What have I got myself into ???

If you like healing, Esper has a few direct targeted heals like a traditional MMO, where you won't need to worry about positioning as much. You'll still need to dodge yourself and stay in range of your targets, but it might be a good fit for you. Medic uses almost all big AOE heals, so they need to be close range with their teammates but their heals are large and easy to find for wounded players. Spellslinger is probably the most challenging healer to play; narrow long-range telegraphs but a lot of mobility.

Maybe not open beta players, but there were a couple hundred closed beta players doing level 50 testing, there are videos of endgame raids and dungeons from those groups on youtube now

I am looking foward to it, I had a ton of fun, and yes quite a few hit 50 they were just zones most did not explore.

The trouble with hard core pvp is it always turns into a nerf this and nerf that rather then to balance we are buffing this skill etc.

Also their are so maney differant rule sets that can be used its a tough group of players to make all happy in general,

while I would not recommend this as a primary..

I did goof around with my warrior and you can make the warrior a healer, admittedly, not the best healer in the game, but it is "possible".. :)

I think there's more flexibility than is realized, which means options.. and doing things just because it's fun or silly.. rather than what's the "best" build..

depends on why you play, if you're hardcore, then probably not.. but if you're just goofing around having a good time.. well.. there's lots to consider..

it did kinda blow people's mind when a large rock looking warrior was healing them!.. LOL

Heh went through warrior abilities, it's actually possible. Might be super fun on BGs when people don't notice it's actually the warrior healing ^^

yes, I did see those.. you are correct :)

I was under the impression those L50's were premade and tested the dungeons..  I should have phrased that properly, as I was referring to someone who levels through the game, then raids, etc.. as a vast majority of bugs are found when large numbers of players crunch the system, and discover the flaws :)  of which I'm sure there will be many.. just like in every other MMO..

still planning on have some fun the meantime.. lol

I'll just speak to the underlined, being that it is not true.

Have you seen any of the dozens of threads from casual players worried that the game is TOO hardcore?  The dungeons and raids are very difficult.

Have you seen all the options available for PvP either?  There most certainly is enough content at launch to please them, and they have an additional battleground that should be released a month or so after launch.

Closed beta testers were able to get to level 50, and there were A LOT of them.  Closed beta testers got into the 20 man raid, nobody that I heard of cleared it in the months they had to try.  And the 40 man was being tested on private realms.  There are also plenty of videos up for the content of the 20 man raid.

But to the overall theme of the post, I haven't had this much fun in an MMO in a very long time.  The upbeat nature of the game is fresh for a game that is also difficult.

my statement was a very generalization of many thread complaining about not enough PVP (1 Warplot and wanting battlezones, etc) and not enough dungeons (4 from what I've read)...

again, I very could be wrong about many things.. :)  no intention on slighting any person or group.. just expressing an opinion of my own.. :)

hope to see you ingame.. :)

After my FPS improved, I had a great time in the open beta. I was able to try all classes and decided on rolling a Stalker for launch. Fun times ahead :)

Glad you had fun!  It's a great game!  If anyone is looking for an RP+content guild with a community that's been around a long time, let me know ;).

I haven't had this much fun playing an MMO in a long time. Finally something I could see myself playing for longer than three weeks.

This game has great balance imo, which is something that has been lacking in recent MMOs. Rift had a fun class system, but was too generic of fantasy story for my taste. SWTOR had a great story, but the PVP was a disappointment. GW2 had nice easy grouping, but the lack of set roles ruined it for me. I don't even want to talk about ESO, what a waste of $80. Everything I did in Wildstar was fun, quirky, and was mixed in with a bit of light humor. I enjoyed the setting and the gameplay.

    Only 10 more days!
