I been reading on people getting the Founder pack for Archeage just to get in the Alpha. I am concern that people are chasing the next big game will cause the prices of games to increase. I understand wanting to get in a Alpha to play a new game, trust me I do.
Over time I have realize I get in a bad habit to always want the next best thing and don't do it as much like buying a videocard/Cpu. I see people doing the same thing with games and I am concerned about this driving up the cost of games in the future. Was curious about what others think about it.

Oh please ... for goodness sake not another pointless thread about this ... sigh
Some people have different views than you do , some people have more disposable income than others do , some people think that they are getting good value for their money. If you don't think its a good idea then fine. Just stop whining about what others do with their money.
lol?
People pay to be entertained, so far I've been entertained and will shortly pass that threshold of $/hr of entertainment I usually look to as a guideline.
+ people who spended that cash on the alpha dont get their toons deleted.
It will transfer over to "test server" for new builds and patches.
I wont buy it, but thats due to me having 3 kids who i find more importand then buying a 130 euro client
If i woulnt have kids i would be all over it !!
So the people who can burn that money also directly support Trion and makes the upcomming beta even better as there are TONS of alpha testers present.
In the end its those players who report bugs and test out future build.
So its win / win aint it ? :P
Well said Mothanos
This forum would be a much better place if people stopped being "concerned" about how other people spend their money.
Seriously, if you are so concerned about it, go fight social inequalities or do anything else that is somewhat constructive.
You can't stop this trend. Consumption of Entertainment is way too fast for companies to keep up. This creates a unique position where these companies can charge for pretty much anything and this paid Alpha nonsense is just the start.

Next logical step is to go the way that Star Citizen goes. Open development with opportunities to buy into parts of the game at various stages. Buy or fund in game assets and have you come back spending more and more over the whole course of development.
You will see people spend multiple times what they would for a single game when you stretch out the payment over a long time and once they commit they are going to come back for more.
StarCitizens is pioneering a system that is incredibly smart and profitable.

This is also evident in the serialization of games and the "Season Pass" strategy. Games as TV shows monetized on a per episode basis.

It will only stop i people stop opening their wallet and start thinking. Something i am not so confident will ever happen.
I don't think enough people are buying packages like this to truly impact the genre. At worst people who want a headstart might have to pa a lot more but anyone who can wait to launch should be good.
I would never pay that sum for a game I havn't tried no matter what. Not because it is so much but because I know that so many MMOs sounds great when you hear about them but sucks when they finally launch.
I in fact are rather limited with buying any MMO I havn't tried before, there are few exceptions from devs who done great things in the past...
I do think his/her point is sound, that doesn't mean it's true, but the concern is grounded in reality. Prices are set based on what consumers are willing to pay.

No, what would make these forums a better place is if people like you would stop needlessly bashing people. The guy made a post and said he wanted an other people's opinions on something he was concerned about....you know, the thing forums were meant for. You should take your own advice about doing constructive things and just not post if you're not going to contribute to the discussion.
Some will pay it and some wont , I think its good value for money and some don't. Companies are not going to start upping their prices because of this anytime soon , they are not stupid and know it would be limiting their customer base.
Oh please spare us the self righteous ramblings .. the point is , there has already been countless threads discussing this and there is no need for another one about it.
i dont think wasnt Trion move about founder pack of AA that increase the ammount we need to pay for a game. AA is about having diferent options how to play it and that even includes the payment model. Players have options like:
- Spend 150 in goodies and get alpha acess.
- Spend 90 or 50 in goodies and get beta acess.
- Dont spend any money and have acess on release day and then decide if spend 14 per month to acess all features in game.
Much diferent from other titles where the only way to get in-game is buying the box, normally 60+ to play the 1st month (in p2p type).
I dont remenber the price of FF14 when comes out few years ago but i remember it was expensive.
