free turn-based MMORPG?

jsolsticejsolstice Member UncommonPosts: 2

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could please recommend an MMO or two that's turn-based and free. I played Atlantica about two years ago, and I have fond memories of it, but trying to keep up with it was draining my wallet, so I was hoping I could find something similar but a bit more relaxed (and not too horrible on the pay2win aspect). If it matters, I'm mostly a PvE person fond of crafting, fishing, home instances, etc.

Thanks in advance!

Wakfu has a free option, but it's very limited.  The sub fee is only $5 a month if you decide you like it.  It's a turn based SRPG like FF Tactics/Fire Emblem, but it's a MMO.  I'd suggest trying it out.

Dofus, Wakfu, Wizard 101 and Pirate 101 are all turn-based MMORPGs, but have sub fee.

If you want a game that doesn't charge sub and don't want to play Atlantica, try Ecol Tactics Online.

Thanks for the replies, I'll check those out. At a glance, the mentioned games's aesthetics don't really appeal to me, though, so if anyone knows of any other games I could try out, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks very much for the replies so far.

If you want better graphic style, Might & Magic Heroes Online might be a good game for you once it's released: http://en.heroes-online.com/

Atlantica Online?  its a older game but updated a lot and seeing its age graphics wise its not to bad.

Don't let the aesthetics of Ankama's games, Dofus and Wakfu, fool you. As childish as they appear in style and presentation, they have a lot of depth and adult sensibility. I used to play Dofus extensively many years ago and that game, for example, is full of cultural references--and otherwise--that you'd have to be pretty mature (read: old) to get. The games also have a lot of cool sandbox-ish elements. There are certainly things about Dofus and Wakfu to dislike, but I wouldn't throw them to the wayside based on cursory observations.

Good luck in your search. And let us know what you found.

Well, if you can get past Atlantica Onlines horrible story and somewhat generic game world, the combat system is fantastic for turn based and makes it worth playing for a while at least, just don't expect typical MMORPG gonna lose years of your life to it type of MMO.

Atlantica is still the best one out there. Try to join a good guild/nation that will help you. What server did you play on? I just started playing again and it got UI update, so it looks much better.
