I feel that elitism has scared me away from many enjoyable MMOs. The fact that there are people out there that solely focus on being top-notch and egotistical has pushed me away from many communities and games. A prime example is World of Warcraft; sorry for the cliche. Community is most likely my first indication if I will enjoy a game or not.
I agree. The complete stupidity created by gaming elitism makes me nuts. What's worse is that the wannabes who feel like they are upper echelon just because they follow someone on youtube or twitch. The "best build" problem perpetuates to a point where unless you are playing via the approved method you're a bad. When the reality is that many of the bleeding edge builds don't work for the average user because they don't perform at the level required to really make the build work.
Gaming communities as a whole have really become toxic.
I really havent had disconnect issues in many MMOs over the alst few years...It used to be a problem back in 200, not so much today...For me the biggest turnoff is probably when the MMO is too easy.......I also want some form of accomplishment in the game that not everyone has.

I've had enough of solo focused MMORPGs that I never want to play a another themepark ever again. I'm done with them completely.
So much could be done to bring players together, having fun together, forming communties. But what has happend over time? The opposite. Player are split up. Separated by level teirs, self-sufficiency, by solo stories, by instances, phasing, and the end game.
Forced grouping and games that require absolutely no care or caution whatsoever. In other words you'll always win unless you do something incredibly stupid.
I have to agree, Buggy/Crashy/DC-y is pretty bad, although for games I really like I suffer through some amount of it. Similar point with unoptimzied/ancient/sluggish clients.
I hate having my hand held too much - I don't mean Themepark necessarily, but when the game goes from Themepark to On-Rails it really irks me because now I've pretty much lost all free will in the game.
On the flip side, a game that just dumps me in with little to no guidance, I do get a bit lost and if I don't have at least some direction early on to get me on some sort of path. I will probably wander around a bit - say "WTF is the point of this" and just stop playing. Minecraft is that way for me - I just can't get into it at all.
Games that try to be Jack-of-all-Trades irk me. Especially those that try to be PvP/PvE at the same time (WoW I'm looking directly at you). So many changes to balance one affecting the other, and it's a see-saw that never seems to really stop until everything is utterly homogenized to the point of bland mashed potatoes. If you pick one or the other and be really really good at it - great. You can have the other, but don't emphasize it at the expense of what your main focus is.
I don't necessarily mind open world PvP, or getting ganked occasionally (I suck at PvP, if I happen to have ganked anyone else, it was probably on accident). That's ok.. but when it goes to griefing, that's a huge turn off. Just for example, I liked playing Eve a lot, but anytime I ever stepped foot into low-sec space to actually see what 99% of the game was about - pop. Without fail. So what's the point.

What does turn you of from MMO´s and makes you walk away from a game...
With me its when a game crashes to many times or has frequent disconnects...
Biggest turn off for me is the fact that I have to tear myself away from the games for real life stuff. I miss being able to dedicate an entire day to my game, regardless of whether or not it had sub fees or was f2p. Regardless of whether or not it had quest hubs or was a sandbox. I suppose that's what "growing up" is though, since I must dedicate time elsewhere than my mmo of choice.
Much of the genre in general has become a "turn off" for me personally because I can't dedicate the hours into most of them that I would prefer to. A couple hours here and there in an mmo breaks the immersion factor for me by quite a lot, so most times I opt to just not play altogether.

For me it is the fact that game developers and designers think that some stuff is cool when actually it is a piece of useless junk and when they ignore suggestions from best testers about same.
For example, weekly reset for raids? Really? I mean ok it was fine like 15 years ago....but now the main reason i do not play WoW/LOTRO/AoC/RIFT and many other great games is beacause i do NOT want to wait a fricking week to be able to play the raid and then i "might" see item i wanted for like months just to lose it on a roll.
Or when they design crap like in GW2 with no holy trinity and then every boss is kiting and running around getting downed in 1/2 hits, or stack in 1 bugged spot where boss get stuck into the wall and then just beat the bejesus out of it. Or making Legendary weapon to be piece of junk when compared to exotic/ascended which is easy obtainable....only "legendary" thing is the grind for mats/gold to craft/buy it.
ESO was last game i bought....until i see some MAJOR improvement in mmo world i am not even gonna bother.....they just copy->paste same old junk over and over with 1 or 2 new ideas and call it new mmo, pack it, sell it and then do the epic fail in few months...

WOW where do I begin? OH, the biggest?
Lack of multiplayer.

Jack of all trade class's
Quest hubs
Red squares on the ground
Fast travel
Cash shops and that includes vanity items, if you did not earn it ingame then it doesn't belong to you!
Open world PvP
Things that take away from group mechanics and interdependancy such as:
-Gimmicky combat (twitch, dodging)
-Everyone can do everything
-Lack of trinity
One leveling path
Boring racial selection
"mmorpg.com forum admins are all TROLLS and losers in real life"
My opinion
No bitchers.

Well , just see this enough for me to understand the game without play it .
Subscribing!
I am happy to buy a game but am not interested in buying it again and again and again ...
Strangely it's lack of race diversity. Example love Rift but hate that all but one race (Dwarf) is Human.
