I really gave this game a chance, but I find myself not even wanting to log in any more.

I think I'm just over MMO's as a player.  I wanted to play ESO to PvP, but I hate the fact that I have to suffer through a quest grinder just to get to a point so I can start doing what I want to do.  Perhaps I'm merely getting lazy.  In the old DAOC days I solo leveled a nightshade which at the time was a monumental task.  I hated the grind, but when I was finished, I got to go PvP and do what I wanted to do.  And then TOA came along...

Anyways I hope the game is a success and that you all continue to enjoy it.  I just can't bring myself to do any more quests.  I will continue blowing up tanks in World of Tanks and it's almost time for Star Citizen's Arena Commander module to release.   My next hope for some PvP action in a fantasy setting is Camelot Unchained.  That is several years off so who knows.

In the mean time I'm putting my VR2 Nightblade and VR1 Sorc on the shelf for a while.  Maybe I'll dust them off one day, but I doubt it.  It's pretty obvious that the focus for future content will revolve around PvE activities for some time to come.

Good luck!

You can check out Gw2, It lets you pvp right off the bat. Solo Arena is tons of fun, but nothing beats team arena with friends. If you want to get competitive, there are eSports events nowadays. And when you feel like mob hunting, you can do that as well. Funny enough, in sPvP every few matches you get a special item called "Tome of Knowledge" which grants your character one PvE level, so, go on and make some PvP, get about 70 books and voila, you'll be maxed out in no time. Probably with few dozen special titles locked only to PvP players.

No matter how bad certain posters make Gw2 look like in this forum, its tons of fun and the combat is very player skill-oriented. Should be better than World of Tanks anyway. Last time I checked, those golden bullets they sell in the cash shop are pretty much pay2win.

P.S: You are upscaled in WvW environment, but I do not suggest spending your time there below lvl 80. The traits are a game changer and below 30, you have none.

I've heard from some friends that GW2 has matured nicely.  I did buy a copy back in the day.  I may have to give it another go.

I would also quickly comment that people who play WOT properly can use gold ammo without spending actual cash.  The mission rewards pretty much ensure that you will have enough in game credits to buy the upgraded ammo.  I do wish they would simply delete those shells from the game, but it'll never happen.

I take issue with the idea posters on this forum have made GW2 sound bad. Perhaps you mean this site? I did not find GW2 was the MMO for me but it has tons going for it, ESO is just more my kind of game. But GW2 is a fine MMO, no two ways about it.

As for the OP, we all burn out. Take a break and come back with your batteries recharged.

For someone that didn't play Gw2 I strongly suggest checking this website http://intothemists.com/ for some builds information. Of course nothing beats figuring out the traits and gear yourself, that's half the fun, but it really is a lot of information. My advice, try few premade builds, then thinker your own that lines up with your own playstyle.

And thanks for the WoT update, I didn't know they took steps against that.

I'll check that site out for sure.

ESO needs some time to ferment.  Starting out as a Nightblade class probably wasn't a good idea either. That class has been F'd since day one.  Min/Maxing is also a pain in the ass because you don't know which abilities are working as intended and which are bugged.  It's been tough to gain any, um...'keyboard memory prowess' for lack of a better phrase.  Either the animations are clunky or I'm stunned and stuck forever until I waste time during battle to ESC twice.

Bottem line is that ESO doesn't play very well and I'm too frustrated. I get that this is a new game but the core combat mechanics should have been hashed out during beta and they simply didn't do that.

I agree with your title OP. They made a big mistake my making 50+ content the only way to earn VR levels. The only way to keep the maximum number of players happy is to allow them to play the part of the game they want to play. It is exactly what I wanted, so I am happy. But I am only 1 of 3 types of players in a themepark game.

VR leveling was to be gained in 3 different ways. I don't know why they changed it or adjusted the XP gain. Those who wanted to grind VR dungeons should have been able to level that way to VR10. PvP players should have been able to gain VR levels in PvP. Then my group would gain levels by questing. Then you are doing what you want and players are happy. At least for a month or two. image

I don't mind having having to grind a little to get to end game PvP but I miss having battlegrounds I could go to as I was leveling my way through the content.  I'm not talking about your typical WoW BG's, I'm talking about the BG's found in DAoC. That's something I wish ESO had. Sure, you can go out to Cyrodiil at level 10 but don't expect to compete. Your pretty much only option is to stick with the zerg....go off on your own and you'll get one-shotted. So, pretty much they force players to grind quests to VR10 to become competitive in PvP. I don't think it should work this way.
  • movros99movros99 Member UncommonPosts: 125
Yup.  Good points.  Why should PvP players be forced to PvE to compete.  I don't wanna do it any more.
  • bcbullybcbully Member EpicPosts: 11,843

OP have you played since patch? AvA and questing are about the same. Big long battles AvA is better. There is certainly a learning and even skill curve though when it comes to AvA leveling.

I was just thinking earlier today about Cyrodiil "This is obviously the way the world was meant to be. They just added some pve areas"

  • adam_noxadam_nox Member UncommonPosts: 2,148
There's barely any action in Cyrodiil as it is, outside of slim prime time periods.

Want to point out that i hate quesing myself. I have only done about 2-300 quests in ESO and i'm v8 atm. You can do 1-50 in 20 ingame hours. It's more hard to mob grind etc when you hit veteran levels because of the amount of xp needed and the nerf in mob xp gained. But with the Craglorn update, they have increased mob xp in veteran areas, and there are some pretty good farming places now. So you can get to 50 pretty quick and start doing PvP and level your veteran ranks in cyrodill.

http://tamrielfoundry.com/ - on the forums, you can find some pretty good guides.

And place spare me for the comments "wHaAY u No QueSt in tHiZ StoRydriven MmO?!?!?!?" - to answer you all: because i hate it, deal with it.

I cancelled my subscription an hour ago. Sadly I'm done with this game. It could be so much more but Zenimax is making it worse with every patch instead of improving it. PVP is a huge joke at the moment with all of its exploits (caltrops anyone?) and lags (memory leaks -> lag spikes).. and bugs (join a large raid.. get kicked from the game). Some classes need nerfs since launch (DK).. others (NB) are broken. But the most dumb thing I've encountered so far is the customer support. My whole main story line disappeared in Coldharbour.. I couldn't finish the quest and suddenly it wasn't there anymore. I can't proceed.. my highest veteran character is forced to level up through PVP because I can't get to the other starting zones or even to Molag Bal. I wrote dozens of tickets to Zenimax.. nothing.. no single response since 11 days.

And yea.. these problems are just the tip of the iceberg. :(

WildStar U can level to max starting at 6 in pvp.

Gw2 u can level to max in wvw starting at level 2.

Eso I totally feel your frusteration caned my sub at v10 broken quests, main quests. Broken skills main skills. Broken group and raid tools.

I tried pretending it was a MMO but its just a solo quest con soul game in a dab dull looking world.

Take a break or try something new. Sto ship to ship fighting is still fun and complex.

I also quit the game and have removed may look at it down the line again but that's only a slight maybe. Looking into next year there are some impressive looking MMO's on the horizon.

And although in the end I didn't like the game I am glad I played it because it drove me to reinstall Skyrim and have downloaded loads of content mods too. Have already clocked about 60 hours since returning to it forgot how good the game is pick the right mods and its even better.

I went back to Guild Wars 2 . It wasn't that the questing was that bad in TESO but most of the quests were designed as solo quests so when there was 10 other players doing them at the same of time they ended up lacking any challenge at all . I wish there had been more options to pvp while leveling . Instanced pvp is always enjoyable but I would have loved to see more options for world pvp while questing . It was ok and I may have stayed had it not seemed so overcrowded . I like to see a lot of people in an mmo as long as they arn't too many of them doing the same solo quests as me it just ruins the immersion .

Yeah ESO is a "dab dull looking world", it does not have the best graphics seen in a mainstream MMO since AoC:

  • Reilly64Reilly64 Member UncommonPosts: 16

    I cancelled as well.

    • Bugs and bugged quests
    • Lag
    • Weapon Swap delay
    • Problems getting into Cyrodill
    • Bots
    • Fighting NPC mobs for a quest and getting an update for the quest despite never laying a finger on them. Either bots or other players kill them first and I get an update for being nearby.
    • Bots
    • Mainly a solo game with little incentive to group
    • Bots
    • Cant face grinding VR levels.
    • Bots
I'll check it out later in the year to see what improvements but as it stands right now I just dont want to log on. Did I mention the bots?
  • VaporsVapors Member UncommonPosts: 407
To all the so called VR grinders. I leveled from v1 to v7 JUST from PVP, and this was b4 they raised the exp in PVP. I did not even finished the v1 area, neither I did ANY grind. If you are a real pvper you give a sh*t about the 4 VR levels others are above you and just kill them. And im pretty sure I will reach v12 just from PVP since I like it to log in for a few hours and be free to join and leave, which I cant do in pve groups.

ESO and AOC both have a graphicly problem, both don't have those 5 meter long super fantasy style looking longswords, which every anime lover loves xD

um that would be the 4 to 1 ratio of bots to humans , everywhere i go i see bots lots of them.....and they cant seem to solve it....

and that also hinders upgrades and makes many of us give up on mmo's in general...a poster went on about GU2....what he wont tell you is how bad the bots are in GU2....they are jsut as bad as ESO...some might say cause of GU2's structure it make sit ten times worse.....

and its cartoony look and pinky and brain mesmers...no thanks....

tried dc online had fun till i too had to start upgrading.....i had ot nearly start a revolution in the game to get anywhere via the economy they have.....won that battle and then after two weeks left....

    trek online its too grindy.....

and ground combat is horrible as are neverwinter nights ( same company )

and think if i stop paying 15 a month....and he stops paying 15 a month thats 360 a year loss to any mmo....

now think about a million of us....and we wont be paying more then 80 bucks for a game that is single player now will we....

ya seeing the scam now folks?

i'm beginning to believe that the "bots" are the way the company stops players like me that play a lot form really getting somewhere.....they want me to pay forever ..well i will just gey rid of these bots....they screw everyone not just me.

huh, I suppose you mean Guild Wars 2 by GU2. Idk what you've been smoking but there are no bots in this game or at least they are so rare that i do not see them. Also, Gw2 is not punishing you for being slower than a bot. You have your own mine nodes, you have your own drop, you have your own exp and event reward. Bots or no bots what you said is plain bullshit. Bots do not slow you down 1 bit in Gw2, not even a microsecond.

I think it's hilarious when people come here and complain about an MMORPG being a grind.  Maybe you should switch genres if you do not like doing quests... Or maybe the next time a game comes out, you should not just blow thru levels like toilet paper and enjoy the game and not rush to the max levels within three months of the game coming out then complain that you are bored.

I used to do this and burned myself out on a few games, now I take my time and play casual and enjoy them a lot more.

VR is SUPPOSED to take longer.  They made it that way so it would be somewhat of a challenge.  If they handed out levels like other MMO's then the entire player base would hit the top, get bored within a month and not resub.  The only issue i have with ESO right now is the whole roolback bug.  I have stopped playing until this is fixed.  Anyways, star citizen looks good, but Elite dangerous looks like more fun.

My two copper, not meaning to hate on you but...yeah

Good game to play for about a month.  I See no reason to continue subbing after that.  Content is great but limited.

Got to VR10 not really impressed with the game, canceled sub and waiting for archeage now.

This game was a huge disappointment. Bought the game to beta test it for a month, what a ripoff. I don't mind bugs, I've been playing skyrim for a long time, that game oozes bugs but I still play it.

The problem with ESO is that most of the bugs I found were affecting my gameplay and getting me killed or blocking my progress. Animations getting stuck all the time, dismounting from my horse all the time, weapon swapping lag, ability lag, non functioning quests, falling through the world, unable to move, unable to interact, unable to load, you name it. I had these bugs every time I played. Enough is enough.

Looking past all the bugs that will eventually or hopefully be squashed, the game disappoints the most for the potential it shows through this beautiful world that has no depth at all. All you can do is quest in a pve restricted environment until you are bored out of your mind. What a waste. It tries too much to be like an Elder Scrolls single player game but it lacks the sandbox elements and freedom to the player that defined the franchise.
