When will I stop crying about the loss of this game?  It's not right.  As much as I shudder at the words, it's just not fair.

My other car was a speederbike.  My vacation home was a tatooine guildhall.  My imaginary friends were living, breathing human beings with rich, deep secret lives.  I never knew what was going to happen, never saw it coming, was always delighted with each chance encounter whether it was friend or foe.  It was okay when I had to pause and return to the neverending mundane responsibility of family and home, because it would always still be there, waiting on my return, watching my back or waiting to plant a plasma bolt in it.  I danced and killed with equal abandon.  It was the ultimate in alternate lives.

But because choades like Torres and Smedley didn't understand that some Uncle Owens were damned handy with a Tusken Rifle and some Oolas turned the tables and ate the rancor, all of that is gone -- shoved into round holes and broken like the square pegs who played them.  When you take the RPG out of the mmo... all that remains is a mass of unhappy online players, robbed of the things they came together to accomplish.

As far as I'm concerned, whatever money they make off this abomination is blood money.  And I hope they choke on it.

What a great but sad video!! Kudos to whomever made it. I played SWG for about 9 months before the CU hit and quit soon after. SWG was my first MMO that I played and I loved it! It's kind of like you first girlfriend or boyfriend. You never forget them! I can't imagine how many hours I spent online! This video brought back many fond and happy memories of a game that is all but dead to me. I miss SWG very, very much. It's almost criminal what SOE did to this game.image

WOW, what a great movie clip, and a fitting tribute to the greatest game I have ever played.

Respect to all who put that together.

    RIP SWGimage

Damn, that was sad...  Oh well, I am sure there will be another game at another time...  I too regard pre-holocron SWG to be the best game ever, not pre-cu, pre-holocron...  This is a distinction worth noting, this started the downfall...  Most vets would agree hands-down...  Seriously though, if they implemented a pre-cu server with holcrons still revelaing 4 of the 5 professions needed to master Jedi, I bet you anything the grinding orgy would start up again like it never stopped...

    It can never be...  Ever...

That's it, I think it's time to take SWG off of SOE hand's and give it to some other companys hand to repair the damage from that greedy corporation of SOE so that SWG will continue to live on. If SOE refuse to give it to a different company that will work and repair SWG, then we need to raid the SOE business, we want SWG back to the way it was, remove the expansion set, Trails of Obi-Wan, remove the Rage of the Wookies, and remake SWG what it was used to be!

Wow, that video struct a sad cord deep in my being. It's a true shame what's become of one of the most original and fun mmorpg's made in history. Now all that's left is a shattered shell after SWG's death.

This video is as fantastic as it is sad.  Great work Andrew, great work!

Everyone is bitter about how this once great game turned out.

Many memories came and when as I went thru' this video.  Memories never to be repeated.

    Great work once again!

I had to post on this because that vid made me so sad.

SWG was my fist MMORPG (quit right before the CU - after it was renamed and pushed back like a million times I got fed up) so maybe I look on it more fondly than it desires but seeing all the places from the vid brought back some very good memories.

Man, SWG is the only Internet thing I ever experienced that led to a RL encounter.  Folks playing in Southern California posted periodic announcements to get together at a decided-upon place somewhere in the vicinity of L.A.  I ended up driving out from Phoenix to one of the gatherings in Santa Monica, at a nice bar/restaurant joint, because I wanted to meet the head journailst of the Scylla Gazette and hopefully see the guy who helped me hold together a guild notoriously underdogged by the pre-beta imperial entity known as PAX.  And damn if we didn't have a great time for a night.

That was one thing about the early SWG community - non-stop creativity going on.  Towards the end, I was making millions of credits by going every day to each of the planets and sampling resources, which data I arranged in a colorful spreadsheet on Excel, with resources highlit in red the day they left the cycle, and resources highlit in green the day they entered.  It was part accounting, part field techie simulation, and for two areas that can be somewhat boring in RL, best pet project I may have ever had.

And then there was the day we realized that the way to play the game against riflemen who were kicking our butts was not to send melee at them, but to pit our own riflemen against them in a long-distance game of distraction.  Changed everything for us.  Good times.

Not that I'm gonna cry over SWG's problems these days.  The game provided me with good memories, and it set the bar for the type of community play and player-created content I'm looking for in any MMO I decide to pick up.  Life is a neverending stream of farewells on the way to the waterfall, but the river itself is always popping up something new everyday.  Can't wait for the next raise of the bar, quite frankly.

    Great video!

SWG was the absolute best mmo at release, bar none. So sad to see it end up this way.
