Wow, my initial reaction was "This game didn't launch yet?"  Game's been out so long that I kinda assumed it already launched long ago :O

I didn't even remember that this was still going. I figured it was shut down or something...

Same here. People stopped talking about it so figured it had shut down.

FF is a great game with so much potential. The additions/changes of the past months indicate they are going In the right direction, now they just need lots of new content Do yourself a favor and check it out at final lauch.

Heavy duty crafting game. The higher grade the gear is,the easier it breaks and becomes useless.. The only gear that has any longevity is the low end crap that come with your frame.  To get into this game you have to love crafting and finding parts is frustrating.  For me the game was fun for awhile then i got bored trying to find parts. Of course you can pay real money for them.

I was extremely excited about this game years ago. The game did have potential but I personally don't trust Red5 anymore. They kept re-working founders packages and ways to create revenue and barely released any updates, patches, or content. They had completely taken out the PVP at one point. Bugs, glitches and exploits still remain in the game that had been there years ago.

Do yourself a favor and stay away from this title.

Did they actually add content that takes longer then a single day to get through yet?

    No?

    Alright then.

The rapid item decay of higher level gear and the way they changed medic that makes healing about useless (you have to shoot a ball at the person who needs healed and then pop it when it gets close but people move constantly and the ball moves a bit slow so actually popping the ball on them before they move is a flip of a coin) killed it for me.  Medics used to work like they do in TF2 and put a healing beam on someone, that worked much better.  Now, I don't feel like a medic.  I feel like a dps who has an occasional healing ball once every minute that I can choose to try and help someone if I want to.

They haven't had a medic in almost 2 years and the dragonfly has multiple options to heal with. When you're info is that out of date why even post to complain ?

Played it for a very very long time and was a huge supporter, buying the 100 dollar founder pack or whatever the commander one was.

I still think the game has a lot of potential. They've changed the game so much though that I'm not even sure if I like it. I like all the new content, Ares missions and apparently instances, but it just seems like they've fine tuned it around group play too much. Soloing doesn't seem very viable at all which is unfortunate for me. Perhaps when they expand the map even more and if they choose to add structures guilds can build and control it can turn into a sort of planetside 2 with pve content.

Either way, I'll keep my eyes on it, I still have it installed and played it a few hours over the past month but unless soloing becomes much easier I probably won't bother with it anymore.

The dragonfly has three options to heal and all of them are only usable once every minute or two AND they require you to get the target to hold still.  Healing wave only hits 10 feet in front of you and healing ball bounces off a tiny rock and goes into orbit.  The healing options are like after-thoughts on a dps frame.

So YES, two years of no medic and an insane decay rate on higher end gear are my complaints.  I preferred the medic the way it was as a dedicated support class and not a DPS with healing options.  My information is not out of date, I used the original version of the medic as a reference to a class I enjoyed.  Apparently I missed the information that said we can only post about recent changes.

The Dragonfly isn't that bad. The healing ball yes, that will definitely take some skill and a lot of practice to do well with, but so what? Healing wave is fantastic imo. It is one of the easiest heals to get people with. You can fly towards them in sort of an intercept path and just drive-by heal people. It's really not that bad. Healing in almost every mmo is insanely easy, I think it's a welcome difference to have it require at least a bit of skill. Is it perfect? Probably not, but it's not as bad as you make it out to be.

I could be wrong since I haven't played DF in quite a long while but I can't imagine the healing wave being longer than 10-20 seconds at most. I would use it regularly when soloing thumpers. That is also incredibly easy to use to heal people since it has such a wide arc. Chances are if they're in front of you and not half way across the map, you'll heal them, if you don't you did something very very wrong.

I don't like the gear degradation either. I heard that they were planning on changing it or something but I'm not sure if that was just a rumor. I have no played enough to have an informed opinion about how much that REALLY affects gameplay, if much at all.

There's no second launch. The game has just been in closed beta for several years (almost want to say like 3-4), a very "open" closed beta where getting into it wasn't really an issue. The game recently (as in maybe a year or so ago) went into open beta and that KIND of felt like a launch.

  • versulasversulas Member UncommonPosts: 288

Considering the open beta has been out for more than a year (and the closed beta before it was essentially an open beta since they allowed anyone in), all the packs they've sold, all the real money people have invested, and the fact that they have a PTS, I seriously doubt they're going to do a wipe. At most, they might add a new server at launch.

So... for all intents and purposes the game has launched, and a few years ago it'd be okay to acknowledge this as just an elaborate marketing scheme. However, it's apparent that this method of gaining pre-launch funding and drawing out the development cycle is becoming the norm, so it's kind of hard to fault them for it. Hell, at least you get to play a stable game for free, regularly, and not just on 'beta weekends'.

Unless they change their ways this game is a trainwreck waiting to happen. I will be surprised if they are still in business in a few years at the rate that they are going. The forced crafting isn't going to go over well. It isn't going over well now as is. I loved the game, even with it's short comings, until they forced crafting down my throat in order to keep playing. Thanks, no thanks. If you even move cockeyed you take a durability hit. Not to mention just how unreasonably slow the frames are when they start out. The game has lost it's fun value with the last patch. They should go back to the way it is where crafting was optional and not forced. I think this game is just circling the drain waiting to die.

I really like this game. In the past year someone must have lit a fire under them, because they have gotten it together.

I may go back and check it out.

  • ZephlosZephlos Member UncommonPosts: 35

Pretty sure this is just the last dying gasp of FF and R5.

They got all the $ they were ever gonna get during their "beta" phase.

They burned their fanbase and community one too many times.  The servers are almost abandoned, not that there is any content to explore.

This whole pay to play beta thing is going to do more harm to the gaming industry than good.

  • GinazGinaz Member RarePosts: 2,572
This game is still a thing?  People are still playing?

Is a man not entitled to the herp of his derp?

Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.

LOL. man you made me laugh.

Do you really think there is going to be some revolutionary thing when the game is launched that is gona call the masses to the game.?

All that is going to happen is the water mark is going to change from "Open Beta Client" to "Release" and its going to carry on its merry way like its been doing for years.

Too many radical changes in design hurt the game  a lot.

First, the game was designed more as a shooter/sandbox, then after Mark Kern left R5, they tried to salvage the game in the worst possible fashion - abandoning and ignoring everything they have done with the game so far  and taking the game into completely new direction - adding heavy vertical progression, making the lack of content even more painful. Same fate followed crafting, a nice suplemental game play being turned into tedious lackluster.

The game should serve as an example how sw development can go so very wrong when you lack vision and management.
