80% playing every day after one week

tyfontyfon Member UncommonPosts: 240

I just got an email from Trion CEO, as did the other founders.

What was quite cool and I personally can relate to was:

After the first week, we saw that more than 80% of you were still playing every day and we upgraded it again

It's now been three weeks for me, and my wife and me have not been this hooked on a game in a long time :)

They also mentioned server upgrades and the beta progress, but I guess the email will be in some articles soon on this and other sites.

Yeah I got the email as well.  The alpha server definitely seems pretty populated and I am really enjoying the game as well :).

I hope it does well when it comes out...the spawn camping gankers worry me though...

Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, I love me some PvP.  And I have absolutely no problem with getting ganked while questing in a PvP area.  And you are right, there are plenty of players to kill in AA.

I only get annoyed that 50's spawn camping level 30's seems so rampant.  And even if you kill the 50's, it makes no difference, they are back almost immediately, and you wind up having to wait like 90 seconds to spawn because of repeated ganking.

These are people who liked what they saw so much that they dropped big bucks to be part of the testing process including some mechanics that involve time based activities.  This not only means that the population to sample from is HIGHLY biased but that some game activities highly encourage logging in at least once per day (farming).

All of this makes it nothing more than a meaningless propaganda post that you slopped up an regurgitated for them which isn't really a negative but highlights how this entire thread is kinda dumb.

    Greetings Order-master :)

We haven't reached questing in the pvp zones yet.

I hope it won't be too bad, but there is so much to do I'm not that worried.

Believe it or not, after three weeks and playing almost every day we are still only level 22. Been doing a lot of farming quests and trade runs, and we have gathered all mats for a clipper. Now we are exploring for Nui tears :)

We survived the PvP servers of AoC, we'll survive this.

I got the email and agree about this game. I have not been this excited or hooked on a game's potential in a very long time. This game really is awesome. I can't believe how hooked I am just on mining and farming, let a lone pvp and dungeons

This game has already gotten me in trouble with the wife several times now becasue I lose all track of time when playing it and I am spending way too much time on it. I am trying to back off on the plat time some while waiting on Beta to start and the N American version of the 1.0 patch to be implemented on the Alpha server. I tend to have a 6 - 9 month interest in MMO's and don't want to get burned out in the alpha/beta stage

Off topic on the gankers. I have a pair of 8 x 8 plots in Cinderstone Moor and keep a level 15 mule there to tend them and the PK'ing has been tolerable. Only had spawn campers there once and have went days without any Pking at all and I log onto this guy several time a day to harvest, plant , sheer etc then run to the mailbox to send the goodies to my main

    I miss DAoC

Really, you missed the point of the post?  That's...just sad.

The point of your post was that of course there is going to be retention due to the money they spent in. He just proved you wrong. I guess you dont understand the point of your post.

I paid 60 bucks for Elder Scrolls Online and only played it a week before deciding it was crap. On money vs time spent enjoying the game the Archeage Alpha has been a much better deal for me than any game since LoTRO or SWG

I can say for me, I didn't get into the alpha until the 2nd week. We make a lot of money and buy a lot of games, and this was really just on impulse because we were bored one evening.

I haven't really followed it since it was a "korean f2p grinder", but I'm glad I made that impulse buy :)

So no, I was not overly interested in this before I actually played it. It just struck home when we started.

I can not speak for anyone else though.

  • silvermembersilvermember Member UncommonPosts: 526
Considered you paid about 99.99 bucks to get into the alpha, I am nearly certain you will return just after playing for a week. How about they release the percentage after 1 month, in a few weeks.

All he's doing is proving that at least one person in any stage of game development, regardless of paying for access, will choose not to play.

All you did was prove that there is a massive deficit of critical thinking on these forums.

Its ok. We wont make fun of you that much.

Thats the problem with open pvp games, the playerbase today is full of cowards who won't fight anyone their own level, in fact they will run like a dog with its tail between its legs if anyone who can fight them shows up.

In other news: I'll probally not play AA because it has open pvp, because games with open pvp have terrible community and terrible players infesting them. Nothing but gankers who are too much if a bunch of chickens to fight someone their own level so they pick on people who can't fight back. All I can say is this game is pretty much doomed if this doesn't change. Open pvp games do not make it in todays market much at all in the usa/canada, and its due to the immaturity of the playerbase itself.

These types of open pvp games work in Asia and such because the players there have something the players here don't: respect for one another.  In most mmo's with open pvp in non-usa/canadian countires, they never have these max level camping people half their level problems that plague ones in the us/canada. Its not pvp when all your doing is ganking people half your level, thats just that player being a coward who is to scared to fight anyone their own skill/char level.

Anyway, Unless I can stay out of the pvp area's for the entire game because I cba to bother with those cowards that play in those area's that spawn camp and such, I'll probally not touch AA, and I know I am not the only one who is like this. I like pvp when I have a choice when I want to fight and that the fighting is in a balanced zone (like lv restrictions if above x level you cannot enter said zone, like arena pvp brackets in alot of mmos its like 30-35, 36-40, 41-45 etc), but I dislike it when it is forced on me by a game, especally when its against people who I can't even have a fair fight with that  just spawn camp/kill people half their level all day, its just no fun like this, and if you have fun spawn camping/ganking people half your level, there is something wrong with you, and to me (and many others even the real pvpers who are lv capped and only fight people their own level range) your a coward who is scared of a real fight.

Either way, the immature spawn campers/low lv gankers is what usually kills games with open pvp, people will only take being ganked second they leave town by people they can't even fight back against  for so long before they just get sick of it and just can't be bothered with the game anymore, its caused more than 1 open pvp mmorpg released in recent years to die off and close down due to lack of interest.

Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:

    A. Proven right (if something bad happens)

    or

    B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)

Either way, you can't lose! Try it out sometime!

It's great that you and your wife are having a good time in ArcheAge. I think is speaks volumes they are sending you info like that in e-mail. Most companies only send you an e-mail if they know you cancelled and are trying to get you back or see that you haven't ordered an expansion and are trying to get you to buy it.

I respect Trion for the quality of care they put into Rift while I was a subscriber...always fixing things and adding new content.

I just got bored of the standard themepark offering all together, so I can't wait to jump into this game since it has basically every element I have been looking for and is more polished than 90% of other games released in the past 4 years based around the more sandbox style. I also like the instant familiarity of tab target and the themepark questing and dungeons, I just was missing the sandbox of UO.....so this puts them together very well.

Been watching to much twitch tv and chatting with alpha players lately hehe. Found half a day gobbled up just doing that the other day.

The only issue I have with this game is the addictive factor. It might be to addictive since you have all these plants and animals that need care and auction house price battles down to the second and hidden farms and jail time and....lol I guess I could keep going but you get the point. Guess I will have to do some self policing with this game... :)

PvP should have better be disabled to F2P players. The ganking is tolerable now, but once the game is released and the F2P players come in full force, you will be asking yourself why to farm and why pay a monthly sub.

I don't think there's any game worth $150.00, let alone one in an Alpha stage, but for those who feel they got their money's worth, good on them.  I may give it a look when it's free to try, but I'm kind of at the point in my life where if I get burnt out on the current MMO I'm playing, I think I'm done with them altogether.  I recently got around to playing GTA5's online component months after buying the game and that was pretty fun for me.  I think I'm going to stick to more single player games with online components in the future.

This isn't one of those games where a 30 can't beat a 50.  Sure, the 50 has a major advantage, but the combat is so quick, kind of like L2 without a CP bar, that if a level 30 hops out and has the right build, they can kill you.  Again, not saying it's all the time, but many games one level difference and it's over...here, you can never think it's gg.

I'll be the first to say I got my money's worth,...however, the title, "alpha stage" was a money ploy imo.  The game is ready for launch today...no real bugs, smooth, no lag...translation and that's it.

From the streams I've watched, I'd agree. I've seen plenty of streamers get jumped when they were severely out leveled (level 50 jumping a 25 for example) and the streamer wiped the floor with em. So at least there is room for personal skill to shine.

$75.00 worth of cash shop coins

$45.00/3 months Patron status ( you need this to own a house or a farm and other perks)

$????? worth of in-game gear (the best Glider, hearafter stones, pet healing potions,6 chests, title with +3 to all stats, cloak with +3 to all stats, Potion that allows your own emblem for sails/cloaks 4 days head start and a few other things .

So ..did I pay $150 for Alpha access or did I buy a collectors edition of a game I will be playing for a very long time that had a bonus of the alpha that I can learn to play the game and be ready when the game releases. You decide.

It should worry you because it tends to ruin pvp in every game it happens in.

If I blew $150 on alpha access for a F2P game, I'd be trying to get my money out of it too.

And really, do you think people are going to stop playing after paying that?

I'll bet they brag about their 60-90 day retention level too, when it happens, never mind that people that bought the $150 bag, paid for that time whether they use it or not.

    Not particularly impressive.
