Played EQ2 a while ago for roughly 2 months.
Came out with a 20 assassin/ws and must say that I found the crafting to be an obtuse grind-fest with frustrating failures and repetitive twitchs as a result thereof.
The combat, however, was much more complex than that of WoW (by a LONGSHOT) and was probably the only thing that had kept me playing as long as I had.
In a nutshell: Has crafting become easier? Anybody know precisely what ports the game requires to be open? Is there a site to test (as there is for WoW)? My main reason for leaving was the lack of open-pvp; are open-pvp servers on the horizon?
Thanks in advance
This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.

They have not changed crafting and most players dont want it to. As far as Open PvP servers they are coming soon. I believe when the next expansion comes out next month
While the mechanics of crafting haven't changed, there is no interdependecy now. A Weaponsmith can make anything without having to go to other crafters for parts.
As far as ports I'm not sure, your best bet would the the Tech Support forums.
PVP servers will be opened February 26th if I'm not mistaken to coincide with the release of the Kingdom of Sky expansion.
As for the techie stuff, google is your friend.
Crafting is pretty much the same and I have to agree with Sift from my observations, not a lot of people are doing it on my server. I do it very rarely myself and am a lot of those times the only one in the instance. When I do see someone it's usually a provisioner. Now thats a profession thats worth it's weight in gold.
i bet sages are to with all those spell upgradse, man. From waht i heared crafting XP has gotten a big boost, and you can lvl a crafter alot faster than your Adventer class.
PvP comes out in febuary 21st.
You can do test servers, but the directions are kinda complicated, they are posted on the website.

They are removing sub combines for a lot of things so you are making the final product straight away.
Its on the test servers now.
The hardcore crafters are up in arms about it on the forums. It's literally a case of you gather a rock, some roots, a metal cluster, but some fuels, and press Start.. there's your final combine.
It's very much (not surprisingly at all) like WoW on Test now really, from most accounts.
There are a lot of people who love the change, people like me who craft a poison or apprentice IV out of necessity, as it will take the boredom out of crafting.
But it will also possibly flood the broker with crafting goods etc, making them pretty much worthless perhaps.
It is very much a time will tell thing, but it's very hard not to see it as another major push towards dumbing EQ2 down to the lowest common denominator once again.

As for PvP..
You can kill anyone anywhere, and gain exp and earn rewards by doing it.
Have they announced any limits on PvP? Can a level 60 kill a level 10? Can ten level 70s storm across Antonica killing anyone of any level in their path because they're stupid pre-teens?
Have you considered the cost of crafted gear, not even rare crafted gear? Because, in the same vein, have you considered harvesting in Thundering Steppes, Antonica etc just to get the raws to craft? Standing there swinging your pick when you're suddenly two-shot killed by a Ranger?
I dunno.. they definitely need to do something to EQ2 as it is dying a slow death as is, and this PvP is a pretty good option. But I see a lot of characters being created that never make it over level 10 and a month or two after release the PvP servers being a small niche crowd.
But, I hope for EQ2 fans that it has sensible limits and flushes!
As always, time will tell.

Oh. My. God.
Nooooooooooooooooo that sucks. I dont want to turn our crafting system into that. Thats really no fun. The current system lets people that Want to craft to craft, ehh this is going to be to easy, that really sucks. Why do games feel they have to dumb down parts of their game. Ohh well what can you do. I still think this is a bad plan tho

Oh. My. God.
MAN WTF!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
SOE....I loathe you
I'm not even playing this game right now, and didn't even get to a very high level, and I only tried SWG for a day a looong time ago, but I really feel for these players.
BTW, I did want to play SWG for a while until I heard about all the changes, and even though I'd probably never be a hardcore crafter in EQ2 I think this sucks. The pvp thing I think is great because it will be on different servers.
Man what now, gonna get rid of the fact that even though there are levels, characters actually raise individual skills and what's more, raise them as they actually use them, and get rid of the ability to choose different racial abilities and umm, those other unique skill choices (can't remember)??
Oh crap, I'm probably just giving them ideas.
Well I'll never play their games now.
Didn't they learn anything from SWG, and what do they really think is going to happen?? That people will be like oh ok awesome the crafting is easy enough for me now; man most people will probably never even hear about the change except existing players who already like it the way it is and none of the changes their making, or have made are going to convince anyone who's not playing to play.
I'm just stating the obvious now, no point, i guess I'm just pi&*ed and I don't even play these games. All they are doing this for is money, and SWG should've taught them that this isn't even a good idea from that point of view.
lets not forget changing the combat lock system so people can get powerleveled (at least that was my understanding). Lol they actually tried to say it was so people could save people who were about to die at the last second and make friends. That's what yelling help and running away was for!
crafting really couldnt be much easier without making it absolutely mindless.
damn read the rest of the posts after. that sucks about crafting i thought they had it just about right the way it was.
In America I have bad teeth. If I lived in England my teeth would be perfect.
Its still the same crafting, they just made leveling artisan faster........I havent read anything oon test notes to say that they have changed crafting.
If i missed that please post it here.
As fo the way it was described, Eq2 crafting is nothing like WoW crafting, dont even compare them.
