They won't shut it down. We've had this discussion already, not gonna get into the why's.
There will be a bunch of hotfixes that won't work or will work but introduce 2x the number of bugs that they fix.
They will once again break or screw up some aspect of one of the classes. Despite the fact that they reduced the number of professions to keep them from doing that anymore.
May or may not move the timeline.
Piss off a bunch more players, possibly some of their strongest defenders, who will then become labelled trolls and haters by the die-hard fans because they have finally seen the light.
Just my 2 cents.

As much as i'd like to see it happen, I can't picture them just abruptly shutting the game down, because if money was tight they would pull the plugs on Matrix Online & Planetside before SWG, in hopes of salvaging it somehow.
As a reuslt of that, My prediction: Nothing major happens in february, but later in the year they sell the game to another company who will try to ressurect it by re-launching it without the NGE.
No underwater vehicles or underwater player cities in game yet tho so you can get to there without uber underwater breather loot thingys dropped from boss mob whose down there! So basicaly it'll be broken
Underwater vehicles and cities added
Gungans as a playerables race!
Publish 29 Jedi now start off as level 80!
All the post NGE Jedi complain about how hard it was for them to get to level 90! Saying Post 29 Jedi have it easy
Forum sigs saying pre 29 Jedi.
Death underWater Bunker (DuWB) added! Using all the same textures as everyother raid in the game!
CU3 hits! Kids are complaining about the vilence in the game, so they have taken out death completly.

Isn't it entirely feasible that more people are playing Matrix and PS atm, moreso than SWG?
Okay, I'm going to explain this ONE more time: SOE's financial situation regarding SWG is ENTIRELY different than their situation with MxO or Planetside.
SOE owns the IP for Planetside -- which means they don't share profits with anyone. It's SOE's game, lock, stock and barrel.
SOE bought MxO when it was struggling -- while they don't own the IP, can you say "favorable terms"? Nor do they have sunk development costs.
Last but not least, neither Planetside nor MxO have a Dev team nearly the size of SWG's -- that makes their addition to the Station program a net plus (a single Station account can only be logged into ONE of the games it pays for at a single time).
SWG is licensed IP -- LucasArts takes a huge cut. SOE's contract with LucasArts was written way back when both groups expected the game to do really well -- it was not bought on a song because the game never really got off the ground. So huge Dev team, contract that's probably painful for SOE due to SWG never living up to expectations, small user base, staggeringly bad word of mouth -- yeah, Shutdown is entirely a possibility.
LucasArts might want to retain the game until Star Wars MMO Take 2 -- but SOE would only continue maintaining it if the contract was renegotiated with LucasArts to account for the small user base, if the Dev team was slashed to a maintance staff, and if LucasArts dramatically reduced their cut. Now, I can see LucasArts agreeing to that -- but not with SOE. Why give the company that screwed it up (in LA's eyes) and has the word of mouth problem such favorable terms, when you can negoitate with a third party and at least cut some of the PR problems out. You can bet SOME fanbois would be willing to give it another look if someone else took the helm, even if just for irregular bug-patches and exploit fixing.
If SWG stays with SOE -- Server Merges are unavoidable. (I suspect they haven't merged servers because they don't want to do auto-packups, and they haven't done auto-packups NOT because they aren't finished with the code -- that's trivial -- but because of how suddenly empty the game is going to look. All those dead houses make the game look busier. The sudden loss of most of the cities in the game on ALL servers is going to hurt). Rollback is unlikely -- although if a third party picks up the contract from LA, I suspect they'd implement pre-CU servers simply because the pre-CU code was the most stable, probably the best documented, and is most likely to lure vets back for another look.
Ultimately, this is LucasArt's call. Personally, I suspect SOE would be glad to see SWG go elsewhere. It's been nothing but headaches for them.
IFthe Star Wars license is really up for renewal on Feb. like those very loud rumors say, then I definitively see something happening. Probably more smoke and mirrors and promises they never mean to keep. But they'll do something!
SOE knows what you like... You don't! And don't forget... I am forcing you to read this!
I agree with morat20 and erillion on this. I think a cancellation announcement will be made with the servers being turned off in 6 to 8 months. Then, we will start hearing all the buzz about a new Star Wars MMO (i personally wouldnt use the title star wars galaxies, has too much baggage). Tons of analysts will be brought in to figure out why WoW and lineage as millions of subscribers and how the new star wars mmo will duplicate that. Of course, i am digressing now.
BTW, if no cancellation, then aircraft, hoth and major storyline advancements, if u believe the rumors. It will be battlefield 2 but in the star wars universe. It could be cool.
Yet another SWG fan with baited anticipation of what will happen in february.
The defeaning silence about development post-27 speaks volumes. (As does the frequent push-back of the 27 release).
Despite their new-found love of "Testing" I suspect 27 has been delayed because of staffing issues -- not really a problem, as I suspect SOE wanted to draw down anyways.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again -- SOE should be talking BIG talk about upcoming features. It's PR 101. People are unhappy, people are leaving -- you need to be giving them exciting peaks into what's ahead -- give them a reason to stay.
What has SOE released? The details on 27 -- released before the Starter Kit and post-NGE cancellation numbers were in. They've been quiet as mice since then -- and while some of the forum idiots claim it was Christmas break, I can promise you no company is going to take basically a month off for the holidays with their project in as dire straights as the NGE.
SOE and LA had some serious meetings in December (and probably continuing into January) and while the Devs and PR flacks are staying upbeat, I suspect that the BEST the fanbois can hope for is half the servers being shut down and the NGE being run on a reduced server set.
hopefully george Lucas will step in, strip the game from SOE and re-launch a balanced pre-cu with blizzard or sigil as developers.
Ah, to live in my little world !!!!! lol
reality, soe will continue to milk the fans for everything they can, LA will continue to milk the fans for everything they can and come feb, they will push out another crappy patch, promise the world and by march shut down teh servers, giving the paying fans fair warning of about 15 minutes. can't you just see it, running around dant and then -
You have 15 minutes to find somewhere safe to permanently log out as this the servers will be shutting down forever
just as you start to think you have been playing too long, or its another soe bug that just flashed on screen you see
You have 14 minutes to find somewhere safe to permanently log out as this the servers will be shutting down forever

the morbid part of me hopes that the ppl in charge go out like jim jones with cherry kool-aid. I dont think they will EVER admit that they screwed up with NGE and everything there after. So I am betting on
1. Merging servers ..... might as well put all ten ppl on one server
2. I would like to think that they would make SGW free of monthly cost, but then maybe thats just false hope or the fact that I cant think of anything free from SOE
But then I might be wrong, IS IT TO LATE TO BET ON THE CHERRY KOOL-AID THEORY
1. Absolutely nothing: SWG will continue on in its current form. The announcement will be much like previous announcments in that they have a very long forum post about:
a. listening to their customers more in the future b. "cool and exciting" new features which either never make it in or will be borked when they do c. more about how great SWG is now, terms like "cool", "exciting", and "star-warsy" will be peppered throughout the post
This announcment will be very long but say absolutely nothing. However, I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for it.

I have no idea where this Feb thing came from, but if anything is going to happen, it's going to be the announcement of the next expansion pack. They announced EQ2's second expansion will be released in late Feb - after which they will announce SWG's expansion. They won't announce it earlier because they don't like to have two expansions competing for news time. Also, EQ2's expansion was announced two months before release. If a SWG expansion is announced in late Feb, that would put the release in April or May, which is six months after the Mustafar expansion, putting it right on schedule. Similarly, ToOW was announced right after the release of Desert of Flames, so that pattern is also being followed.
I know you guys hate SWG with a retarded passion, but SWG is in no danger of dying.

Nothing,
some stupid patches that don't fix core issues like why every profession is identical and why be a crafter or entertainer as a primary profession.
That sums up the game. Pick 1 of 7 identical iconic professions.
The possibilities are endless... but I'm betting on pulling the plug before all the others.

Well my guess:
In order:
---------------------------------------------
Don't click here...no2
1. Shutdown
unlikely
2. Server Merges
maybe
3. Rollback
i doubt it
4. NGE2
no
5. Sell the rights to the game
nope
6. Nothing
If by "nothing" you mean business as usuall (patching bugs, improving current state of game), Yes.
==========================
My bet
a) Moving timeline (pretty much confirmed that this is coming)
b) No monthly fees announcement ... but you pay for expansions and rare items (instant transport vehicle anyone, like in Starter Kit box) ?
Have fun
