After the DOSs attack

Lord.BachusLord.Bachus Member RarePosts: 9,686

When i got in, i was lightly anoyed because it took me more then 30 minutes....  But then i got to relax and clear my mind... Becomming one of those pkayers with no issues at all.

i played for 4 hours and the arcade style gaming was lots of fun.....

and just some tips, there actually isstory there, read the quests, get the lore snipsets hidden in books and cubes, make a habbit of straying off from the road as there are things to be found...

keep in mind tough, that choosing the right class/race/path meant a lot to improve my fun...... An Aurin Esper Soldier is what so far seems to work for me..

just wanted to be the first one to tell you how fluent the game played after i got in, rock stable...

esper scientist here. Game is great fun so far.  Choosing the right class really goes help.  I played a stalker in beta and it was just boring.

Stalker here in beta also. Didn't find it that boring, but this time ... WARRIOR baby!!! :)

Stalker explorer here.  It's been a lot of fun being rewarded for scaling high mountains and other tough to reach areas.

    Exile Esper Settler.

2.30 hours in game. Almost everything works as intended until now. Hoping to keep up like this. Very satisfied for a new game launch.

Nice, good to know since I have decided to purchase the game. Downloading the client (around 82%), and I look forward in rolling a Mechari / Engineer / Soldier! Was going Exile, but I just think that the Mechari from the Dominion looks freaken awesome :)

There wasn't a DOSs attack. There is no such thing.

If you're talking about a distributed denial-of-service attack, it's DDoS. You might want to make sure you know what you're talking about in the future so you don't look like a fool.

Ditto, first game that felt 'right' in a very long time. It is technically more of the same but it's the good bits of more of the same and the setting and little touches are excellent. One thing: how can they never anticipate player overload on servers at the beginning?? Hours to get in if you have to leave for any time. A few more would do it, by all means merge some when the numbers lull in a few months but they really don't endear themselves to new players with the dizzying wait times.

Sort of how you look now? Nit picking and name calling never look good in any post. You knew what they meant and so did everyone else. Sucks that there was an attack at launch but its all good now =-)

I'm having issues playing which did not happen in beta. I tried with different ISPs with different results. One doesn't even allow me to play and tries to do 80 mb and crashes but the other goes straight to the play button. So it has to be something with ISPs as one of the issues.

Then with the one that works it says my client us not compatible with the server.

does that mean I have to re dl or there is still some kind of issue?

missed out on pre launch so far. Normally I would be depressed but I am exhausted from other things but still concerned if the problem persists. I would like to create characters to get rest exp at least when I can get time to play.

    any help would be great.

So what if it wasn't? Him not knowing the exact acronym is not offensive, your post however was, who's the real problem here?

Regardless of your opinion on it being a typo or not, my reply to you is a fact.

Why does he have to know what he's talking about? This isn't a thread about DDoS, it's a thread about Wildstar after that happened. The most you can fault him for is putting it in the thread title, despite not having an understanding of what it was - which is just assumed if it isn't a typo.

Everyone knew what he meant, despite the error. The point of language is effective communication, isn't it? Acronyms hinder that, but I suppose that's a rant for a different thread. Maybe one on the Universal Technical Institute boards, in a post about cranberry juice.

Que timers really! Why make a bunch of servers that no one will play on in a month rather than increase the capacity. Ugg its the same dumb shit as FF ARR.

Glad most here seem to be in and having fun.  We're running right now (Sat 2:15 PM PDT) pretty well at a multiple of the peak load we ever saw during Open Beta, having fun watching streamers/etc. and playing ourselves for those not actively involved in issues.

A few hotfixes are being/have been deployed for issues seen by a subset of folks; those cause no downtime.  There'll be about a 15 minute downtime later today to do a set of fixes for issues (we'll tweet/post in forums/etc details).

Would be a great cover-up to blame a DDOS attack for problems at launch.    Just thinking out of the box a bit heh.

DDoS means http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denial-of-service_attack.  Saying you have a DDoS can imply that you have someone actively trying to thwart your network, or it could just mean that you have so many people trying to log in it's denying people the service.  It's one of those terms that has grown and changed over the years, just like MMO, or RPG.

I don't think they meant they were actively being maliciously thwarted by a third party.  I think they meant they had more traffic than they ever imagined.
