GW free pvp weekend any good?

ClassicstarClassicstar Member UncommonPosts: 2,697

Lol i thought hey nice to try out, i already knew it was like wow(not game but players they want) made for casual and tailor made for carebears.

And you know what... its pvp for carebears first its joke no penealty no drops or death with penealty fast pace, strange glueded to ground (no jumping:P).

Then just click enemy and your character is sort of invisble connect by a elastic or something you just use your 6 skills and dont have to do anything untill he is dead you keep locked to your enemy haahahahaha.

And even with no risk at all there players who runaway like chickens but becouse your glued to him he cant lose you its more a slapstick then good pvp game its realy pathetic how this game works.

Well this is realy terrible pvp combat system cant believe players want this what a joke:P

All is instance and maps are very small straight forward there is absolutely no adraline rush in this game.

No if pvp like in wow or GW are standard in mmo then pvp is dead:(

But i understand millions of kids like wow and GW so im affraid the realy adraline rush of seeing red with risk dying and lose items and xp will be from past.

The millions of carebears win becouse thats the big bucks for companys:(

I have a tree, a tree that's in my garde, but my garden's too small for the tree, so the tree is in my house, that means i don't have a house .... who am i anyway?

Dude, learn to spell and properly use grammar, please.

I have a Guild Wars account, and I haven't noticed anything different, there's some new islands, and that's about it, the login and character creation screens have been changed. Haven't created a new PvP character, so I haven't tried the Assassin or Ritualist.

Lol attack at how i type, do i critisise your beloved GW :P

I had a assasin i go in a instance with group 4 you follow a road you cant go anywhere you have to follow some surten ways lol then you see blue team or red team if your blue click on enemy and rest is auto you keep follow him even you dont attack him anymore LMAO so funny.

But what is so good on pvp in GW then its very narrow area where you fight its auto follow when you click on enemy no penalty no risk just hack and slash clcik in combo skills in your action bar 6 of them there is absolutely no depth if tactics of fight system.

when you in waiting area yes you see alot peeps but im not playing a mmorpg to stay there click mission go in with  only 4 players know other site have same 4 players follow road no surprise all so controlled.

Becouse its free so many play it, for short fun, i cant imagine players stay for hours in a game like that with absolutely no depth at all.

Only possitive about game is i like characters how they look.

If you looked at my sig, (which is now changed) you would see I only have about 80 hours of Guild Wars, and I've sucked the game dry. It's not my 'beloved'. I attack at your typing because your typing sucks :P.

Anyway, I won't be buying Factions when it comes out, the only reason I still have GW installed is because of my guild.

how can you say he is a wow fanboy when he talks about carebear games? wow is considered a carebear game by pvpers.

anyway, sounds like he wants to play an FPS, not a MMORPG style game.

  • ClassicstarClassicstar Member UncommonPosts: 2,697

Your right in that im not a wow fanboi thats carebear to.

But you dont understand what im saying a bout pvp in GW its not by far saying i want fps i play for years mmorpgs lol i love mmoprgs but not like how these days mmoprgs develop in terrible carebear easy fast pace no depth like GW or wow.

I've played games with non-carebear death penalties.

RuneScape-you lose all your items, but the three most valuable
Flyff-you lose exp which at high lvls sucks..

I've played more MMOs than those, but those are the only 2 I could think of at the moment.

"And you know what... its pvp for carebears first its joke no penealty no drops or death with penealty fast pace, strange glueded to ground (no jumping:P)."

Well you can call it carebear. It was made to be fun, fast and furious and to appeal to people with not allot of time. Instead of focusing on taking players out of the game, putting them off for losing and such, they decided to make it more of an e-sport style game, were people can jump in and have fun for 5-10 minutes and then log out. Not really any other MMORPGs allows that kind of fast paced dynamic. It truly is a nice casual experience.

"Then just click enemy and your character is sort of invisble connect by a elastic or something you just use your 6 skills and dont have to do anything untill he is dead you keep locked to your enemy haahahahaha.

Well, most other games have the same restrictions. Due to internet lag and delays in the code, it really has to be like that. It's really like that in most RPGs.

However, you should know that there are tons of ways to escape people who are logged on to you. If you try and PvP some more and learn the system you could probably learn how to avoid getting killed. Also, it's 8 skills:)

One mans trash, is another mans gold. It's all just opinions:)

Well, I can't speak for other people, but what I enjoy about GW is that it is really fair and balanced. It's not about having played the most, or having the best items(of course that helps, but its not as essential as in other games) and it's really fast and require lots of teamwork, cordinations and working on builds and strategies to beat your enemy.

I really love the PvP. It's so incredible deep. No skills are useless or better or worse than each other, and the unlimited amounts of builds give a sense of uniqeness I have never seen before. It's really an incredible and solid design. Of course it does not cather to the more hardcore macho gamers:)

I have 2 Guild Wars Accounts, i was quite excited about it at first, i also had 2 wow accounts, but i dont have em anymore..

The game Guild Wars is the most pointless MMORPG out there, i started playing it, after about 1hour of gametime i had bought the best sword and shield in the game. So what do i have to expect about the loots in the game, there is no cool loot, all you can loot you can buy for a small amount gold. There is nothing in that game. They say that guild wars is more about PvP, but that is also nothing special, tho its better than many other MMORPG´s. But i understand now why Guild Wars is free to play.

An hour of playing and you had the best sword and shield in game? I seriously doubt that. Also GW is not a MMORPG, it's a CORPG. The reason why there is no 'omfg uber loot' in the game. Is because GW is a PvP game mainly centered around skill. Not who can level the fastest, nor who can find the best gear. If you had actually tried observing some of the Guild vs Guild matches. For the PvP Event weekend going on now you would know this. Last night I had the pleasure of watching an under-equipped american guild. Almost completely roll a guild of better equipped koreans.

    In War - Victory.
    In Peace - Vigilance.
    In Death - Sacrifice.

This whole "debate" kinda reminds me of the CCG Vs. RPG thing that cropped up a couple of years after Magic: The gathering came out. GW is more like Magic: The Gathering mixed with Quake, whereas all the old school stuff is more like a virtual AD&D LARP. The fact that certain people can't wrap their brains around purely competitve PvP isn't really anything to get bent about. I like my way and they like their way. I'm not going to change them and they aren't going to change me.

So what was the point of the original post? The same thing has been said before. The same arguements against it were made before. Are you afraid that people might try the game this weekend and actually like it? If so, why do you care? It isn't as if someone is going to hold a gun to your head and force you to play it if it becomes more popular. Go play Asheron's Call, EQ, Anarchy Online, UO, Shadowbane, etc., and be happy.

  • MikeMJMMikeMJM Member UncommonPosts: 41

Guild Wars is easily one the the most indepth competitive online games, if not the most.  As Jimmy_Scythe said, GW is like a mixture of FPS and CCG.  You have the tactical movement and positioning, aswell as team play that you see in an FPS.  At the same time you the depth that you see in creating a deck made up of a limited number of cards that you would see in a CCG.

Guild Wars PvP is simply for competetive gamers.  What other ORPG has world wide tournements where the top guilds get free flight and lodging to compete live during a game show at a chance to win $100,000 of cash prizes?  You are what we call a "scrub".  To be blunt, scrubs suck at competetive games.  They don't have the competitive mentality.  MMORPG PvP is great fun, but it is laughable as a form of competition.  You don't have to be competitive at all to win, just be max level with the best gear.

So it has no depth and no "real pvp" because your not good at it? Well that makes sense.

It is generalising, but I don't think you could possibly comprehend the amount of skill, effort, tactic, teamworking and depth GW has. It's simply to vast.

I can see why it would be easier to just farm for a couple of thousands hours, become lvl 12498523 and then go PK some n00bs in the newbie zone, because thats true 1337 d00d pvp right?

Are you so sad that you need to spread lies about the games? Nothing about what you have said in this thread have been accurate. Are you some Lineage 2 or pre T UO fanboy who just have to try and ruin other popular names?

You are also very wrong in your ideas about stereotypes. I don't know about WoW, but I can tell you that there are tons of people in GW with previous MMO experience that play it because its awesome.. not because it's free.

  • haylenhaylen Member Posts: 106
valle84, you're a m*r*n, you're obviously just one of those people who tries to impress others by saying you've completed the game in your first hour. the best sword and best shield, you're really *****, there is not "best sword" and "best shield", if so ,tell me what it is, a sword with fire damage is as good as a 10/10 sword. and whoever was taking about the glued surface, i'd say, ohmy, you know what world of warcraft pvp is all about? a mage is jumping around and casting spells, while the warrior tried to even hit the running, ignorant spellcasting gnome. GW has, in my opinion and probably in most of the gw playerss opinion, a well thought out balance between players, and no, it's not, click and attack and use your 8 skills, that's pvp for morons and people who can't read skilldescriptions, GW pvp needs tactic and teamwork to succeed. You can flame this all you want, but for as far as i know, those would only be people who are either wow-fanboys, or people who just can't fit in the PVP system, and therefore flaming it because they can't control it ...

I have a tree, a tree that's in my garde, but my garden's too small for the tree, so the tree is in my house, that means i don't have a house .... who am i anyway?

Imo GW is one of top pvp games. GWs strong side is player skill it takes to pvp like correct timing and tactics. Devs very often compare it to magic the gathering and you know what? I never got any sort "adrenaline rush" from playing MTG, but it was still very fun.

Oh and I play eve-online so I do enjoy pvp with risk too, but it would never work in GW as you need to be able to jump in and start competing with different players ands guilds just like you would go to some place and start playing MTG with other players for fun.
