I played Darkfall: UW for about 2 months when it launched and thought it was incredible, unfortunately none of my friends did and once they all quit and my guild disbanded I stopped playing.

Theres been a huge positive push for community building lately and from what I have read, a ton of positive changes to the game itself. Is now the time to return to DF or should I wait it out on more updates?

Subnote: I played ESO, found it only worthy of a few weeks of playtime, not worth the sub and left that. The whole time I thought about Darkfall, because honestly its more Elder Scrolls than ESO.

I would say so, or you may want to wait until the next big patch.  In the first week of June there will be a massive change to UW with AV removing the classes.  People will then be able to freely choose between one ultimate and 8 skills from any of the old schools/roles.  The skills are also going to be revamped to either nerf some of the better skills and improve upon the lesser used skills.  This is something a lot of people have been clamouring for since UW's release.

If you do join, be sure to click on the social tab and sign up to be mentored.  One of the new systems that AV has implemented to get the new player acclimated to DF.

This latest patch is getting people out actively farming in the world as well, which is a breath of fresh air.  Good to see.

AV is also working on a questing system that they say will not be of the standard fare.  Epic lore questing chains, etc.  AV is also working on an alignment system.  This is another key item that people have complained about.

I felt Darkfall was more Elder Scrolls than ESO as well. However the GFX was like an old Elder Scrolls game as well, which was a deal breaker for me.

I will defiently do that, and yeah I might wait till that Class removal Patch, It seems like a fitting time to jump in with people obviously having to reconfigure their playstyles, hopefully give me a chance to catch up.

My only gripe with the game was that it was excessivly grindy, have they added in any dailys or something to get you more exp and level faster?

Yes they added daily and weekly feats.  They also have prowess monoliths that give prowess, but they are usually contested.  Darkfall, like any game, really shines when you play with a good guild.

People that are on at the same time as you, have the same goals, easy going, etc.  When/if you come back, try to find the right group of people to come back and play with.  It makes all the difference in the world.

I would not wait for the next patch.

You should get in now and start working on your prowess. The more prowess you have, the more options you will have with the custom roles.

Also all people who are subbed on May 31st will get 2,000 free prowess.

    Right.  Forgot about that.

The only grindy issue left with the game is the 150 mob feat. Hopefully AV took notice to the complaints of this.

Its not really an issue if you do repeatable feat because eventually you will hit 150 and get rewarded for daily, weekly, and 150 one.

BTW yesterday's 160 men siege was epic.  If anyone got some video post it up!

I was just looking at their pricing options.  $60 for six months of play.  Ten dollars a month for a title like this isn't bad.  I'm realizing how cheap games are getting these days.  I was looking at SWTOR last night, and their cheapest option (other than F2P) is about $15.  Around the equivalent for an average date night with the wife, and I get six months.  hmmm...  Which to choose?

Choosing between game or wife? Go for the wife option.

Choosing between SWTOR or Darkfall? Thats a no-brainer.  Go with Darkfall!

This begs the question. What are you and your wife doing on date night? Ordering a pay per view movie and eating a bag of fritos and a 16 oz. coca-cola each and maybe splitting a twinkie?

Dude that is one cheap date night, lol.

PP grind got a bit easier, there are daily/weekly quests now, but they don't give much PP. Still some people seem to like them.

Item grind got really time intensive now, though. Pretty much impossible for a casual to gain gear for weekend sieges now that they removed the few options that casuals actually had. They replaced them with a time intensive active farming grind with increased crafting complexity. So if you can't actively pve grind 3+h a day (alternativly you can also be a PVP god that wins at least 70% of all fights) you are pretty much screwed if you don't have a full warehouse from the times when the game still focussed on PVP instead of PVE.

I guess I could have worded that better :)  I meant which game to choose.  And, yes, an average date night for the wife and I is dinner and a movie or dinner and a festival or something along those lines.

I've decided to take SWTOR for a spin, since it is free and more low-key.  I'm currently getting my PvP fix from an FPS, so I may wait until the patch to jump back into Darkfall.  Now, if I could only get SWTOR to finish downloading...

I'm sure SWTOR is definitely more low-key. I wouldn't get into Darkfall unless you were willing to REALLY get into Darkfall. It's not the kind of game you can play casually. And no I don't mean that as an insult.

This is categorically untrue. Gold is actually worth something now and its EASIER for causals to get gold and materials through daily and weekly feats. Furthermore, with the introduction of refining materials to entry level mobs, new players can make A LOT of gold in a very short amount of time. This video proves that.

I'm getting that MMO itch again, and the news about the new skill combo system made me interested in finally trying DFUW.

    Some questions:

    How's the population?

Are new players continually joining and staying?

    Any free trial?

Are you joking? Before the updates you could gather and scrape aside of work or whatever and now you have to actively grind for many hours. Most casuals that I have been playing with stopped playing the game now because all semi afk activities have been nerfed to crap and you are forced to grind for hours every day if you wanna be geared up for the weekend sieges.

I won't start a discussion on if semi afk is good or bad, but it was the only thing that allowed non pvp god casuals to play the game - it was the actual reason why I bought DFUW even though I knew I could only play for 1-2h during week days and 5-6h on weekends. But the clear focus on PVP is gone these days and you gotta pve grind your ass off. If you enjoy it, so be it, but please don't claim that players that don't enjoy the broken PVE in DFUW, won't need to grind their ass off if they are no pvp gods.

same thing happend to me op,im sat at 36k pp which is nothing compared to some guys who are at 350k plus.i tried to get back

into dfuw  a few times but its so hard to find a steady clan and one thats not clicky or dicks,i think the game has huge potential but i feel the community will be its downfall.

At 36k pp, you should be pretty much pvp ready.. Not maxed, but still able to kill people.

People with 350k prowess don't have a huge advantage over you, they just have more options on what they want to play.

Keep trying to find a clan, there's lots of good clans out there. Just make sure you log into coms with them.

If you aren't in coms, and actively trying to be part of the clan, they may assume you're a spy.

Definitely the time to join. Try to get the twitch skill you need before the Custom Role patch comes out.

    Low Prowess Ownage

New people need to watch this clip, but take it with a grain of salt. This is a really good player who rerolled. Just goes to show that, skill > prowess. If you want to get good/better, you need to practice. If you want to be able to compete against the best, you need to practice against the best.

Wait for a limitless trial and do not believe in limited time ones as they usually tuned around the most beautiful parts of the game.
