WS First Week Played Hours

SaluteSalute Member UncommonPosts: 795

Raptr tracked 542k hours played in the first week for WS. Game is in 6th position only a few hours behind 4th place.

While i m a fan of the game, i never imagined it would reach such hour and player numbers . I think Carbine made something right.

I know its all about retention but honestly i never thought it would sell that good.

*Edit

620k Hours now and 4th place, after Dota, WoW & LoL

All Time Favorites: EQ1, WoW, EvE, GW1
Playing Now: WoW, ESO, GW2

Honestly we don't know how it sold. I haven't even bought it yet as I'm still within the 3 day grace period. Let's wait a little long before we pop the champagne shall we.

I m not saying it sold millions or brake any records etc. I m saying that having so many played hours (ESO had around 450k in the first week and around 116k now) is beyond expectations for an uknown IP game.

So ESO is the official measuring stick of success now? Ok I understand why you would this it sold well then. BTW I wouldn't use ESO as a barometer in measuring anything as a success or failure. I tend to judge the actions of the company to measure that. In this case, Carbine.

I referred to ESO as a new and huge IP game. Not to compare sales between them. I m not saying either that WS sold better than ESO, but having so many played hours in the first week is a good sign, at least better than even me as a fan of the game imagined.

Wildstar will reach success, they already have with their smooth launch which is a feat in its own for MMOs.  There are still a large number of people who still enjoy the things Wildstar offers.  It isn't anything ground breaking as far as content or features, they have all been done before.  Wildstar just does them all very well.

It is very polished and fairly well optimized for launch.  Optimization will probably go on for the next 4-6 months, as well as more addons and content to come in their monthly releases.

    They will do just fine.

What I find weird is that comparing recent launches the hate threads are almost non existant,  I have to admit that I was a bit dissapointed =P, Anyways, back to my Slinger...

Huh, interesting data.  Pulled a chunk of info from one of the servers last night:

Quick stats from a core sample we took of a server (on 6.4):

    For characters:

66% are level 10 and under

The median on-planet is level 7

The next spike in the curve is at level 14 (the housing/Penny Arcade effect)

    • .3% are level 50
    • 1% are level 35 or higher
    • 2% are 30 or higher
    • 10% are 20 or higher
/played time curve is pretty organic.  The average /played to level 50 is 75 hours and rising (if it mirrors the beta it'll end up averaging about 100-125 hours or so, though folks levelling more casually will probably drive it up over time.  Few can keep up with the burnout pace of the poopsockers aiming for the sub-30 times)

    YMMV.

OP, where'd you see the stats?  I'm not up on raptr - poked around and couldn't see how to extract that.

Thanks man. I always wondered where to find that stuff. Not bad for the first week. It has the one week f2p thing going on right?

Subscribers have been getting 3 guest passes each to shell out. So yeah, sorta like a F2P week.

So i guess WoW is always on F2P week because of endless trial?

Trials like that certainly do offset the numbers so should be taken into account. Although at this point how many are really using a trial for WOW.. it's a decade old game, it also hasn't seen much in the way of content additions in over a year. Wildstar on the other hand just released. Anyway, it's not like We're trying to calculate overall player numbers here..or are we ?

I think WoW's free trial is up to level 20, but yeah kinda. Atleast till level 20. Are the WS f2p passes level capped, or can you continue to use them as long as you can find one?

WoW trial is forever with max lvl 20. WS is a week with max lvl 20.

Haha, poopsocker.  Never heard that one before, but apparently it is old MMORPG slang:
