When you go into a quest hub it is hard to tell what items are just clutter and what items are actually interactive...

Huh, I haven't had one problem with discerning quest givers and other important npcs. When I went into the military years ago they gave me a test to ensure I wasn't color blind. I past it and was able to wire circuitry on aircraft weapons systems with no problems for about 20 years. Maybe you ought to see about taking one of these fancy tests.

I was saying if it were not for the "capt obvious" markers indicating what is what, it would be difficult... because of the insane amount of visual clutter in a given area... Maybe I am just old school and not used to everything being so over the top...

I think they were going for that, other wise it would look pretty much like every other clone out there. It's a different type of game I have to say that for it. Honestly, I didn't like the look at first either, but the more I play the game and accept it for what they were going for, the more I like it. It is addicting (to me) and the character flow when fighting is some of the best I have played.
I respect you guys and your opinions on the clutter, but I think the problem is being a bit over exaggerated in this discussion, especially since everyone has known about the style for many months now....no surprise here!

Lots of things happen on-screen? That's because you keep ignoring them and don't take your time to read wtf means X and Y.
The 3rd zone should be somehow "in a rush", because ... is a fucking war front. What do you expect? Butterfly's and Sheep's?
In the 4 zone however, things goes a bit "easy" , meaning is not a war front anymore, and it tells more the story. ( Oh shit , but the 4 zone is a contested zone That if you are on a PvP server ) .
Also, if you have to many quests, why do you care? Just do the ones which are : close to you , appropriate level , zone story, world story . If you are level 17 and you have level 15 quests ( tasks ) .. then you have that X on the quest, press it
Just to clarify, I am not a rush to max level type of player. I like to stop "and smell the roses". Immerse myself in the setting, lore, and take in the sights. And to address your message (highlighted in yellow): quite the contrary! I'm not ignoring anything - the interface, audio cues, and on-screen pops ups won't LET YOU ignore them! They are invasive and too frequent for my taste. When you are turning in a quest for NPC "X" (at the actual NPC "X"'s location)...you suddenly get a radio call from NPC "Y" about some other quest's objective that you may have not addressed yet. Sometimes NPC "W" will radio in to you during another mission. And to top it all off, the radio chatter audio is usually just the same quirky tag-line you've already heard a million times, while the text of the message contained in the pop-up relates to something else.
Have you ever leveled-up in the middle of a fight? BAM! More damn pop-ups! The game is trying to explain something to you in the middle of your fight and you can get distracted.
Here's a breakdown of a typical mob fight:
You start off with a couple of abilities fired off, and perhaps kill one of the mobs -
"CHALLENGE!!!!" WTF? Now I have to read the challenge window pop up! AND I only have 3.5 minutes to complete it!
Well .. I may say doh, but then again, I might have more experience then you in mmo's and I like paying attention to what exactly is happening and why, on my screen. Sure, first time when I heard the word "CHALLENGE BEGINS" , I was like WTF? What should I do? ...But that was the first time ( or first few times ). Then I realise that once you kill a mob, it MAY start a challenge where all you need to do is ... bingo , kill more of the same mobs until time run's out. You don't need to read anything when you hear that. Or if you really want to read, finish your fight,calm down and read. You don't need to be a pro gamer to get that. Like I said, pay attention as to what X and Y means/do when they appear for the first time on your screen, and it will help you a lot while you level.
Now that mob's buddy showed up to the fight, got a couple of good swipes at ya and -
Oh god, my health-bar is almost gone!
BLEEP-BLEEP! "Heya Cupcake, I was just wondering if you found the missing kid yet?"

I like that your trying to filter out the problems and have a discussion.
I guess what it comes down to is being able to figure out what kind of game you like, and what kind of games there are. If your able to determine that ESO looks different than WS and play them accordingly, you will have a better time with them. Wildstar is a brightly animated game, and if you/we can accept it as that and play it with a positive attitude it will be much more enjoyable. I'm not sure if that makes sense, but to me it comes down to accepting different games for what they are, and accepting them, or, just not playing them.
Wildstar has over the top animation, there is no secret about that. It is getting awesome reviews from column editors and fans alike. I think I read on IGN that the community has rated it somewhere around a 9.7% out of 10. Those people probably scored it high because they have accepted the game for what it is. /shrug
Thank you for your comment. I agree that it is finally nice to see a game actually get GOOD press, in this day and age. Especially an MMO!

Just set the level of the music back to 40% ... makes it much more bearable for an old timer like me... And dont play longer then 3 hours straight.... and then take an hour break

Haha, that's exactly the feeling I got as well! And I too turned the music level down quite a bit. I suppose that's why they call these "theme parks" hehe.
My wife and I are having a ball playing the game together. We just take it easy, and only play for about an hour at a time. But I totally understand and agree with everyone else as well. The game is chaotic as hell. Not relaxing at all. Makes me want to log into EQ and just sit at a camp and relax lol.
Don't know if it has been said, but I wanted to let you all know that I installed an addon called showfov for WS and set the FOV to 65-75 and it really made a difference regarding eyestrain. Made it much similar looking to other MMO FOV and I even think it makes the game look better.

OP, yes, I agree with you, completely. It is the only thing I really dislike about WS right now especially with respect to pop ups in combat. I don't really care for either the challenges or the fact that NPCs just have to say some inane thing and have a dialogue box appear in the middle top of my screen while I am fighting or trying to complete some type of fiddly jump puzzle.
I wish they would tone that aspect down. I think that they could put the NPC dialogue boxes somewhere else, say only appearing if you hit "c". The quest markers and most of the indicators are ok I think. It is the popup stuff that gets on my nerves.
OP you can turn off the NPC alerts. It is in the options. If you find it overwhelming turn off the tutorials and alerts. That should solve your problem. Further you can also take away map markers to make your map less crowded if you find that distracting (honestly if you are miner why turn on the relic and survivalist nodes and you can turn the farmer ones off if you do not intend to farm). In your chat option remove NPC say and it will solve your chat bar getting filled with NPC say (afraid they said something important create another chat tab and dump it there to read when you have a chance). In fact the first time these tutorials and alerts pop up it tells you that you can choose to turn it off. You can also search for addons that might satisfy your requirements if you find the colours distracting. Change the opaqueness of your telegraphs even. Everything is customizable.
I suggest you press escape and go through every chat, combat, hud and other option you have. Then go to your quest log and look through your tabs it will show you other information that you do not need to be shoved at you. All the information is there and you can safely turn off the alerts and tutorials and even the sounds from the NPC. Worried you missed what the datacron said it is all in your lore for you to read when you want and not when a mob is trying to take your head off. The developers gave all these choices to you the player to customize as you wish. If you do not bother to change or investigate your game and check out all the information readily available you will never be quite happy playing this game.
Challengers and some quests are optional. You do not have to do them but it gives those who do a choice. I am a bit discomforted by people who complain about things they have perfect control over. You choose what you want to do from the choices given. Why complain about the abundance. I for one am glad that the game offers me so much and I am never out of something to do. I am over 50 + too well 55 actually but don't tell anyone (I lie about my age a lot vanity my vice). So as an old timer I am not feeling overwhelmed well may be not quite an old timer but hey I am from the EQ generation. I think it is all about our own expectations and wishes. We should perhaps not expect to finish ever quest or do every challenge and relax and it won't be so mind jarring. Everything is within your control ultimately.
I had to break the habit of compulsively accepting every quest I come across. Now I have my crafting quests and maybe two combat quests and that has made the experience much less hectic.
Its hard though, so trained to click everything I can click.
Thought that in beta. It really feels like a video game than an mmo experience for me.
That is exactly what I was feeling about Wildstar. It is a really well made game, it has all the pieces needed for a good mmo, however it feels more like a video/console game to me then an mmo. I do not feel like I am in a living persistent world. This happens for a couple reason but like the OP if feel one of the main reasons is there is to much on the screen that tends to remove me from the emersion of the game, the interface is to busy. The cartoony graphic adds to this feeling as well, WOW has cartoony graphic but it feel much for like living world to explore. Wildstar has a lot of possibilities and it is a quality product but it feels more like a video game for me too. That maybe what ultimately is my reason for leaving the game. So far it is fun but not sure how long it will hold me.
The telegraph system is great but does everything really need to be a telegraph? I feel too much of the core gameplay revolves around "keep bad guys in my telegraphs,keep myself in green telegraphs, keep myself out of red telegraphs". For solo content it's fine but in group PVE and PVP it is a bloody mess.
I like wildstar actually a lot , I think I like both ESO and Wildstar equally and have the dual subs going.. But with that being said I cannot play wildstar more than a hour at best a night before I have to log out. It has way too much going on all at once and needs to be toned down. The telegraphs are fun for sure but between that , all the colors on the screen on max and the huge amount of quests showing on your screen it saps the fun right out of the game for me.
Up until literally yesterday, I was in love with this game. Then I went to the third or fourth zone (currently Level 17) and it just dawned on me that there are just too many quests to accept all at once with som many places to run to and kill stuff. It's becoming repetitive already. I've got about 25 quests all active and all close ot each other and I feel like as soon as I complete one I get two more - I'm not compelled to read the text as I'm just rushing to get everything done, because I've also got hardly and cash for crafting etc so need to get a move on to make money.
But it is all starting to seem endless and repetitive. I think I prefer more of a quest arc where you have chains that don't open until you've done previous stuff. Instead of you being able to walk into a zone and pick up 25 quests without any effort (and be overwhelmed), they should just move you around the zone in a number of constructed stories.
Some will now tell me not to accept all the quests then, but if I don't take them, then the stuff I'm already killing will probably have to be re-done as soon as I pick another quest up, so I may as well get them all and kill stuff as I go.
The game is starting to lose it's appeal though as I'm not sure I can face another 33 levels of manic questing.
The realization is that this happens in every game. The questing and leveling is always so terrible because we are all used to playing a game at max level. When players are used to that, they never want to go through a tedious leveling process again, ever. That is why most games fail in the end, players get bored of leveling and just want max level characters so they can start the real grind. The reason though that they need leveling or skill progression is for newcomers to the genre to learn how to play an MMORPG.
Everyone already has the thrill of getting to level 50 and starting the real hard modes and grind for personal achievements of beating veterans and raids, heck I am dying to get there and am struggling through questing myself. I take breaks rather than power through it. I pvp or dungeon run with the guild.
Not true. Wildstar just has too many quests and very few of them actually feel important or worth doing. The literally took the 2004 questing style system and threw it into a game that could have done some very interesting things instead. The leveling process in an MMO shouldn't feel tedious at all. It should be engaging and fun. If it's not, than the developers have done something very wrong.

You are right, this happens in all MMO´s...

I can't think of any other MMO, including WoW, that condensed zone questing in such a way that Wildstar does it. Duskwood in WoW is a great example of how it should be done. Yes it has a small hub, and simultaneous questing, but they balanced progression through the zone and the pace very well, that it never felt grindy/repetitive. But not just Duskwood, you can pick almost any WoW vanilla zone and see that this is true.
I'm just using WoW as an example, but every other themepark MMO I've played has had a fairly nice progression.

I think they were going for that, other wise it would look pretty much like every other clone out there. It's a different type of game I have to say that for it. Honestly, I didn't like the look at first either, but the more I play the game and accept it for what they were going for, the more I like it. It is addicting (to me) and the character flow when fighting is some of the best I have played.
I respect you guys and your opinions on the clutter, but I think the problem is being a bit over exaggerated in this discussion, especially since everyone has known about the style for many months now....no surprise here!

Haha, that's exactly the feeling I got as well! And I too turned the music level down quite a bit. I suppose that's why they call these "theme parks" hehe.
My wife and I are having a ball playing the game together. We just take it easy, and only play for about an hour at a time. But I totally understand and agree with everyone else as well. The game is chaotic as hell. Not relaxing at all. Makes me want to log into EQ and just sit at a camp and relax lol.

OP, yes, I agree with you, completely. It is the only thing I really dislike about WS right now especially with respect to pop ups in combat. I don't really care for either the challenges or the fact that NPCs just have to say some inane thing and have a dialogue box appear in the middle top of my screen while I am fighting or trying to complete some type of fiddly jump puzzle.
I wish they would tone that aspect down. I think that they could put the NPC dialogue boxes somewhere else, say only appearing if you hit "c". The quest markers and most of the indicators are ok I think. It is the popup stuff that gets on my nerves.
Otherwise, I really love the game.

OP you can turn off the NPC alerts. It is in the options. If you find it overwhelming turn off the tutorials and alerts. That should solve your problem. Further you can also take away map markers to make your map less crowded if you find that distracting (honestly if you are miner why turn on the relic and survivalist nodes and you can turn the farmer ones off if you do not intend to farm). In your chat option remove NPC say and it will solve your chat bar getting filled with NPC say (afraid they said something important create another chat tab and dump it there to read when you have a chance). In fact the first time these tutorials and alerts pop up it tells you that you can choose to turn it off. You can also search for addons that might satisfy your requirements if you find the colours distracting. Change the opaqueness of your telegraphs even. Everything is customizable.
I suggest you press escape and go through every chat, combat, hud and other option you have. Then go to your quest log and look through your tabs it will show you other information that you do not need to be shoved at you. All the information is there and you can safely turn off the alerts and tutorials and even the sounds from the NPC. Worried you missed what the datacron said it is all in your lore for you to read when you want and not when a mob is trying to take your head off. The developers gave all these choices to you the player to customize as you wish. If you do not bother to change or investigate your game and check out all the information readily available you will never be quite happy playing this game.
Challengers and some quests are optional. You do not have to do them but it gives those who do a choice. I am a bit discomforted by people who complain about things they have perfect control over. You choose what you want to do from the choices given. Why complain about the abundance. I for one am glad that the game offers me so much and I am never out of something to do. I am over 50 + too well 55 actually but don't tell anyone (I lie about my age a lot vanity my vice). So as an old timer I am not feeling overwhelmed well may be not quite an old timer but hey I am from the EQ generation. I think it is all about our own expectations and wishes. We should perhaps not expect to finish ever quest or do every challenge and relax and it won't be so mind jarring. Everything is within your control ultimately.
I had to break the habit of compulsively accepting every quest I come across. Now I have my crafting quests and maybe two combat quests and that has made the experience much less hectic.
Its hard though, so trained to click everything I can click.
That is exactly what I was feeling about Wildstar. It is a really well made game, it has all the pieces needed for a good mmo, however it feels more like a video/console game to me then an mmo. I do not feel like I am in a living persistent world. This happens for a couple reason but like the OP if feel one of the main reasons is there is to much on the screen that tends to remove me from the emersion of the game, the interface is to busy. The cartoony graphic adds to this feeling as well, WOW has cartoony graphic but it feel much for like living world to explore. Wildstar has a lot of possibilities and it is a quality product but it feels more like a video game for me too. That maybe what ultimately is my reason for leaving the game. So far it is fun but not sure how long it will hold me.
Not true. Wildstar just has too many quests and very few of them actually feel important or worth doing. The literally took the 2004 questing style system and threw it into a game that could have done some very interesting things instead. The leveling process in an MMO shouldn't feel tedious at all. It should be engaging and fun. If it's not, than the developers have done something very wrong.

I did feel the UI and everything added made it feel crowded as well as the FOV
I have since changed the FOV and gotten myself a couple of addons to tailor my UI to my liking as it's leagues better for me at least
It's the best I can do with the current addons and it will only get better when newer/better are made
I tend to like everything towards the bottom leaving as much space towards the top open as possible
It's been a much better experience for me overall
