This for me too. I run it at max with zero lag or any problems at all. One of the best mmo's at max settings i've ever played. Then you have Wildstar with its wow like graphics and the game is the worse running mmo's for most people i know thats tried it. Nothing worse than buying a game to play with a computer that passes the recommended specs only to find it runs like crap.

I got a buddy key today from a friend . So I decided to give it a try . The fps is still about the same . I've tried  a few things but nothing worked . Its not totally unplayable but I imagine when I get to a city area it will be quite bad . Its a shame the game seems ok but I think I will be giving this one a miss . I remember Rift was meant to poorly optimized but it runs like a dream on my PC compared to wildstar .

Rift has its hardcore dedicated players, I doubt thats going to change.  I leveled  to cap twice (back when it was 50).

I've gone back to check out the game when it went free to play.  I managed to get another two levels on my stealth specialist, before I decided that the game just wasn't that much fun any more.  Different things for different people I guess.

What concerns me, is how much longer Trion is going to run Defiance, before they pull the plug.  The game has always had a troubled position within Trion. I doubt they want to spend much more on its development.  Going F2P may be their last option to get a bit more cash out of it, before they close it down, and move on to something else.

I think the harm was already done before Rift was released by Scot Hartsman who was hired to turn Heroes of Telara, that might have become a great mmorpg, into Rift. He turned the game into a highly polished compilation of mediocre ideas that missed the spark of originality and the joy of creating a truely new game. And no matter how beautiful the game might look it never inspired any of the players.

It takes one to know one.

Well you can't have a very high end machine.  I certainly have never had problems with fps in cities and my computer is not even close to high end.  If you are having problems upgrade your graphics card.

I don't think that Wildstar will effect Rift much.  Two very different games.  I like Rift and did not really like Wildstar, even after trying it a couple times.

well i believe GW2 was a bigger competitor to RIFT than Wildstar ...

Wildstar comes here to leech people from WoW and similar games to WoW ... RIFT has nothing similar to WoW except the graphics ? and even this fact is under discussion . I dont like RIFT but i respect it, cause what ever they done, they tried to do it at the best way they could, i dont believe its playerbase will leave now for Wildstar .

If Rift wasn't soo willing to ban non-cheating players it would be in a much better state than it is now.

It might even still be subscription based.

But they don't really care about their game, it's almost as if they don't want anyone to play it.

Sure took a long time to get to the point in this article.  Rift was dying anyway, and no Widlstar won't help Rift.

Don't forget a new MMO means starting from scratch. A lot of gamers may trickle back to their old MMO when they see they don't have a half dozen endgame geared toons at max level or their multi-millions of gold bankroll and bag slots stuffed to the gills with every conceivable crafting mat. I know I spent going on 3 years in SWTOR and life is such that I don't have the time or patience to start over with wildstar as much as I'd like to. With 16 lvl. 55s and all geared and funded and max craft with all kinds of mounts and rep gained and raids finished I just don't want to be a naked level 1 with no coppers to rub together and no idea where to go or what to do.

Rift Fantasy mmo vs Wildstar SciFi mmo

There's room for both two different types of player base.

It's Wildstar vs SWToR is more of a comparison <imo>

Not a huge amount, and back in our pre-parent days it was nothing, but when you drop 100 bucks a month on diapers and toss in extra food and toys for a 16 month old, it adds up fast. We've got some other stuff we want to save up for, so our sub games (which we prefer just for the quality and not dealing with gated pay content) are just going to have to wait.

Rift has a good F2P model and we had both subbed previously long enough to have the AH and all basic functions/bags/whatever unlocked. No SL souls, but meh.

But Rift is pretty dull. It feels really generic and really I'm only playing it because, at the end of the day, I just want something to sit down and not really think too hard about. But would I be playing it if I had a choice? No. It's very linear, the graphics are meh, the races are absolutely the most uninspired I've seen in any MMO (that's saying a lot) and the Lore is pretty dull as well. The world isn't all that immersive, it literally just feels like a game. In short, I think Rift doesn't do well because it really just has no soul. It's just there, it has a fairly decent population across its low amount of servers because: it's got a good F2P system. That's it.

If LOTROs system wasn't so damned gated (even for those who had previously subbed and bought expansions, such as myself) I'd be there instead. I also own GW2, but that game is just utterly UGH to me. We tried Tera, and it was just too much some kind of kiddie carnival, and AION has a good F2P system but there are some issues with new players having a really hard time once you hit the open PVP zones. EQ2 is a bit too gated, even though I subbed to that game on and off a TON over the past 10 years.

Really I sort of wish all games would go B2P at this point, or the kid would hurry and get out of diapers so I could afford a sub again, I'd be in ESO or WoW.

Anyway. Rift - yeah, it's there, it's utterly just mediocre and uninspired, but it's got the best F2P system out there for former subbers (such as us) and a small, dedicated sub base that keeps it afloat. But great? It ain't.

I know this is odd to say, but you dont need to spend money on diapers.

You can buy a proper cloth that is made to be a reusable diaper. It is like a towel but in the form of a diaper and when your kid poops or pisses on it, it absorbs just as well as a diaper, but then you take that cloth to the washroom, wash it lightly and then put in the laundry bin. Then you wash it with your washing machine.

A set of 7 of those special reusable diapers cost around 35 dollars or around 22-25 euros, but you wont need to spend anymore on diapers.

I know this because my mother raised me using those diapers and so will my future kids. :)

    My random thoughts:

    1) I tried WildStar in the open beta and was very disappointed.  The sci-fi world didn't excite me at all and I was so bored by the intro quests that I stopped before I even got off the ship.  I wish WildStar well, but I don't see what the excitement is all about.

    2) I stopped playing RIFT a few months after SL came out as I was burned out.   Instead of jumping onto my old 60's I decided to level up a toon from scratch.  I have a Rogue who I regularly run T1 raids with an a Mage who is just starting to raid.  Unfortunately, except for IDH, I've seen this all before.  My guild has taken a hit from new games coming out and it's got me stuck at T1 content.  I don't want to wait for these "new players" to gear up and learn the fights.  I want to be farming T1 and progressing on the content I haven't seen yet.

Already getting burned out on Wildstar. There is just something so bland about it. The combat, while fun at first is starting to get very stale at around lvl 30 or so. I find a build I like and I use the same 7 abilities ad nauseam. I think I prefer many abilities like Rift/Wow/Tera, with ESO and Wildstar I get burned out.
Now Playing: Bless / Summoners War
Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile

I agree - 'bland' is the exact word that kept going through my head while playing Wildstar. Leveling was incredibly boring and it didn't take long for me to get to the point where I'd pick up new quests and just think, "Ugh, I don't feel like doing this." I don't like the ridiculous models and the landscape is just blah. I had quit WoW right after Cata came out but Wildstar convinced me to go back to WoW. I hated Wildstar combat for various reasons as well.

That said, I'm already getting bored again in WoW and think I'm going to give Rift and/or GW2 another go. Wildstar was a huge disappointment. The quest for a great MMO continues.

  • After waiting for Wildstar for so long, it just wasnt my cup of tea. Stumbled onto this F2P game, as i was craving a mmorpg to play that had a decent PvE content. Super stoked i found this game, its awsome for being free and i hope they continue with this model. People are unique and therefore so are gamers. To be able to play this game in a relaxed stlye(not even $1 spent) and know theres a future for it is great! Its Free so stop moaning about it, maybe find something else to do with your time if u are so bored with these games. Wait for a great one then by all means spend your money on it, but pls stop the whining. By being free they are not competing, they are just giving and thats simply awsome.
