Why play a game you find crappy ?

tharkthark Member UncommonPosts: 1,188

I can't even remember now but I have seen this on several occasions in all the troll threads on ESO , ofcourse in other MMO's aswell, aspecially the ones that has a subscription to start with , like ESO !!

First they tell everyone that ...this game is sooooooo bad , it has poor Graphics , poor story , buggy gameplay, grindy gameplay, souless World and It's basically the worst game ever created. Ohh...Its Soooooooooo boring :) How can anyone pay 60$ for this junk and also pay a sub !!

These comments are often directly after the "free open beta" then ongoing despite fixes , updates , resulting in more than half of it is simply untrue, if it ever was true or just some exaggeratations.

Yet they are prepared to play it once it goes free to play !!!!!!!! Why ?

If I would consider any of the above, I would not touch such a Product for my entertainment..

Unless , Its all bullshit ..and trolling , but since trolling isn't permitted in this forum, It can't be trolling :) can It ...?

I stopped playing it after 1 week.

    What is your point anyway?

Obviously you are NOT the target of this post , since you actually bought the game and thought it was bad.

Unless, you are lieing about having ESO for that week or If you consider your beta weekend playtime.

    My Point is that .

people would gladly play this game if it wen't FTP, but It's all crap as long as it has a subscription and It COSTs 60$ to buy.

A good question, I'm hoping some of the people here that constantly whine about games instead of discussing what merits it does have can shed some light on why they are so miserable as people and why the must try to make others miserable.

    Currently Playing: ESO and FFXIV
    Have played: You name it

I doubt that too many of us play a game we find crappy.

I suspect most of us go into a game with the expectation that it's not going to be crappy and then are unpleasantly surprised when it is.

I suspect most of us who have issues with a game during Beta are filled with hope that the issues will be fixed on release, and trust the developers when they claim (as with ESO) that they know the cause of the problems and they will be fixed in the release version.

I suspect that many of us keep our fingers crossed when we find things on release are a long way from what the developer has claimed, but we keep playing for weeks in the hope that the fixes are in the pipeline.

When we start realizing that the marketing hype machine is more functional than the coding team and the design team, we give up hope, lower our expectations, and remove all trust.

That doesn't mean we quit on the game; it means we quit playing.

There's a difference.  We wait for the management team to get fired in the hopes that a replacement management team will focus on fixing everything that's wrong.  We expect the marketing hype to disappear in the universal recognition that the grand claims made pre-release were all bullshit.  And we trust that senior management is going to make this happen, because they're the guys responsible for corporate profits.

We aren't playing the game; we're waiting for it to get fixed because we had high hopes for the game.

Between Beta, early release, and the weeks I played before I gave up because of the constant crashing, I filed well over 200 unique bug reports.  Do you think I'd idiotically continue paying and playing after that?

    No way.

But I will wait until the game is fixed... just like I did for AoC; just like I did for for SW-TOR; just like I did for many games prior to them.  If the game isn't fixed, then so be it; I won't have wasted any more money on it.

I think the answer you are looking for is this.

Players who find a game lacking in different areas dont want to pay a sub, for ESO it seemed like most people were upset with all the bugs. But some people are content junkies, content junkies being someone who enjoys experiencing everything. I would consider myself a content junkie. I love getting 100% content cleared in any game I play. I can play a single player game for 2-300 hours and replay it to experience another class.

So for these content junkies we want to experience the game and 100% of it. When a game is lacking in different areas and people dont find the game worth the sub but still want to experience the game they get upset. They feel like the content is worth playing but with the added sub on top of the box price that it lowers the value of the game.

For content junkies it takes alot of them to sub to a game. They want to play 2-300 hours to completion but dont want to end up paying $60 more for the game. They rather just play a single player game and get the 2-300 hours for only $60 instead of $120. With MMOs lacking in story and combat its hard for content junkies to stay with one game for too long because the price doesnt match the reward.

This is just one type of person who complains about wanting games to go F2P. Thats never been my thing. I keep my MMOs and Single player separate.

I'm not rich, but the price/entry fee have nothing to do with me buying or playing. The only thing that matters to me is if the game is fun and if I still look forward to logging in.

I purchased ESO for $80, played it for a couple of weeks and uninstalled. I purchased WS for 75.00 and will be subbing. I am a bit upset that I spent $80 on ESO only to find it gets worse as you level, but that is the price I have to pay in order to find the next mmo I like. Luckily for me it didn't take to long to find it.

I have tried a few F2P games only to uninstall once I found how un-fun they were, had they actually been fun I would have spent a few bucks on them and continued playing.

  • reeereeereeereee Member UncommonPosts: 1,636
I played it despite the many things I didn't like about it because it was the only AAA game in a long time to attempt something close to meaningful open world PvP.  When I could no longer overlook its other deficiencies I stopped subbing.

Hmm..I have done EVERY quest in this game so far, not one left behind(Daggerfall Covenant) ,been held back 2 times in my quests until they fixed those aswell(a few Days)..I have also slaid every boss, made all groupdungeons and now started with Caldwells diary.

So if you are a content junkie you should be very fine !!

Nor will they. "It's crap but I'll play when it's F2P" is indefensible and idiotic.

I work so I don't have unlimited leisure time. What free time I have and how I spend it is much more important to me than any sub or F2P consideration... I just won't waste time on crap I don't enjoy.

I play ESO because I enjoy it and will keep doing that until I either stop enjoying it or something else comes along that I enjoy more.

Make the game better for the players who like it now, that should be the main priority. The reason you make a game F2P anyways is because you think you can get more money out of the players that way, not because it is more fun.

so removing the sub fee, makes the game equal to its payment model which is (free to play as in no sub)

So thats why they see it okay to play if F2P. but not if it has a required sub gate.

I really don't understand that logic either.  If the game is not worth your time while it costs money to play, why would it be worth your time to play when it is free to play?

If a game is bad, I won't play it.  Regardless of whether it costs money or not.

The argument you see so often is clearly people just trolling, and being selfish brat *cupcakes* of the current "hip to hate" generation.

    boring is a blanket statement.

WHat most people mean when they say that, is they dont find the game enjoyable for whats its worth.

Aka, the game is not worth paying a sub to play, for me, so I much rather play it when the fee is balanced with the quality of the product.

    Look at it like this.

Would you feel okay playing 30$ for a Mc Donalds meal? What if they started charging that sort of fee? How would you react? (note: using Mc Donalds as a blanket for Fast Food like that)

Would you continue to buy the meals, even if you may enjoy their food?

Or would you move on, and simply request that they lower their fee down?

From what i know of the game is even if it was f2p its not worth it. But f2p means people will check it out if they haven't wasted 80 dollars on it. Heck they might be willing to put up with all the bugs if they don't have to pay for it. All my negative post on the game comes from watching friends that bought the game play it and curse Zemimax and anything they come out with from now on. Watching them get really angry at wasting money on this game.

  • BloodaxesBloodaxes Member EpicPosts: 4,662

When people say they would play it if it where free that means the game is not good with a monthly fee.

For me I agree with them. This game is nothing special and there's more stuff to do in guild wars 2 than here and that is buy 2 play. So yes I'll wait for when the game either improves to be worth a sub or wait for the free 2 play conversion.

Because that is the true purpose of the complaints. They are mad about paying.

I bought a new car. I'm entitled to free gas for life, right?

    Or

A car is a basic human right, one should be provided to me for free at the cost of others. I'm petitioning my Congreesman over this social injustice!

These are the people we are dealing with now.

Just don't let them know you have two cars at your house, they'll demand government agents with guns to come take one to give to them. It's only "fair".

    I see your point.

Do you find it reasonable to fix and improve the game or not improve it and make it free?

I'd rather see fixes and improvements.

The reason why this is unrealistic is because players accept crap product. We need to set the standards and make them perfectly clear to companies. But, there will always be that million or so that will buy anything no matter what.
