Hi there
I'm looking for a new MMORPG to play. In the past I played RuneScape (2 years), WoW (4 years) and ESO (2 months).
All 3 of them had their pros and cons in my opinion:
- RuneScape:
- Pros:
- Very diverse quests
- No classes -> more freedom
- Long time leveling
- Cons:
- Items won't be returned if hacked
- Lately P2W (Squeal of Fortune, Bonds, etc)
- Childish community
- WoW:
- Pros:
- Awesome experience during TBC/WotLK
- Challenging raids
- Great Lore
- Cons:
- LFD/LFR (attracts trolls)
- Lately P2W (Buyable lvl 90s)
- Since Cataclysm the "magical feeling" is gone
- ESO:
- Pros:
- Cyrodiil PvP was amazing!
- Very flexible classes and roles
- Amazing Lore
- Cons:
-
PvE gets boring in Veteran Rank zones (unimmersive and anticlimatic)
-
P2W (Buyable Race and Horse)
-
Many bugs (I lost my whole bank due to a bug.)
I'm looking for an MMORPG which has the following features:
- 3D, with 3rd person perspective.
- Medieval Fantasy setting (I'm not really into Science Fiction, so preferably no EVE Online, Star Wars or Wildstar)
- Free choice of classes, no restrictions (like in RuneScape or ESO) OR Multiclassing (I want to play an [archer/hunter/ranger + paladin/cleric] hybrid. -> "Holy Archer")
- Focus on exploration (fully explorable world)
- Seiges on castles (either PvE or PvP)
- Viable crafting system -> Endgame craftables should be equally good as raid drops.
- Mass PvP (preferably world PvP -> Like Cyrodiil in ESO but in the entire game world.)
- PvE content like in TBC WoW -> NO LFD/LFR (as stated above, attracts too many trolls)
- Decent community: no excessive swearing, few trolls, etc
- Challenging leveling content but also endgame. ("The journey is just as important as the goal.")
- Functioning Auction House, but without any real money involved.
- Preferably B2P or F2P model but absolutly NOT P2W (by P2W, I mean: being able to buy anything with real money that is not cosmetic) P2P is fine if the game is really what I want and it's not P2W.
- Good hack protection (For instance: authenticator), items will be restored when hacked.
- OPTIONAL: RP and sandbox elements
- OPTIONAL: Released in 2008 or later (It doesn't matter for me, if it's already released or still in development, but preferably not too old.)
My PC Specs:
- i6-4670
- 16 GB RAM
- GTX 770 (4 GB VRAM)
- 250 GB SSD + 1 TB HDD
- Windows 7 64-bit
- Razer Naga MMO Gaming Mouse
Extra notes:
I have been searching for a while and a few suggestions I have gotten in the past are FF XIV ARR, GW2, TERA, DDO and EQ Next Landmark. I have done some research on them. (Although, I haven't played any of them) I'll make a list of what I've read. (I'm not sure if all of this is accurate, though.)
- FF XIV ARR: P2P, More focussed on PvE, Multiclassing is possible (note: I played FF1-10 in my childhood and I really liked them. However, FF10-2, FF12 and 13 were not so good in my opinion.)
- GW2: B2P, Giant PvP battles, but unlike GW1, no Multiclassing (yet?) (note: I'm really new to the GW universe, might be a good way for a new start, but no multiclassing is a little disappointing.)
- TERA: F2P, moderate size battles (but seiges!), no Multiclassing (note: Same as GW, I'm really new to this universe as well. But it's easier to try out since it's F2P.)
- DDO: F2P, Multiclassing, not sure about PvP or seiges, but rather old (2006) (note: I have played some Dungeons and Dragons the Roleplaying Game before once, but not DDO.)
- EQ Next Landmark: In development, F2P, multiclassing, Sandbox, BUT P2W (note: This sounded like an awesome game to look forward to, until I heard people will be able to buy non-cosmetic stuff with ingame money, which defeats the concept of actually playing the game in my opinion.)
These are some MMORPGs I might try out in the future. Please correct me if I have any information about above games. I'm open for all other game suggestions, as well.
I apologize for any grammatical and/or spelling errors as I'm dyslexic and English is not my native language.
Thanks in advance
Kind regards
Sacralletius

Dont think your game exists. You might try Wildstar if you are looking for a BC/Wrath experience, but you dont like Sci-fi and dont want fixed classes, so thats probably a no go.
Archeage, MIGHT be the closest thing you should look into, but its in alpha in the states with a hefty price tag to get in.
Your game does not exist yet. The closest thing around right now would be EQ:N, and I don't understand what you mean by P2W with EQ:N. The game isn't even out yet, no one knows anything about it. Landmark is a separate game entirely.
The next closest thing is FFXVI:ARR, which you said you sounds interesting. I'd definitely recommend ARR. It's a step above any other FF game that has come out since FF11 in my opinion. It's a great game with a good mutli-class function. Give it a shot!
Currently Playing: ESO and FFXIV
Have played: You name it
If you mention rose tinted glasses, you better be referring to Mitch Hedberg.
Honestly, just try GW2. If you don't want to pay the full price, it goes on sale for $29.99 pretty often.

About EQ:N: So there's a difference between EQ:N and EQ:N Landmark?
I'm not really sure either about the P2W part. But keep in mind I use the term very losely. But P2W I mean: being able to buy anything, that isn't cosmetic, for real life money. In this video at about 3:50, there is said that you can put items on the Pleasure Studio and sell them to other players for real cash. What I understand from this, is that other players can buy in game items with real life money. I don't know whether there's a limit on this, but if there isn't, people will be able to buy their way to succes. I don't really like that idea, personally. But again, the game isn't released so I don't know what it will be exactly. Other than that, it looks like an amazing game which I will sure give a try.
About FF XIV: ARR: Is it comparable with any other Final Fantasy game (from the FF1-10 "series")? Multiclassing is cool. But how is PvP? Are there ingame castle sieges (either PvE or PvP)?
Another option is Rift and it's F2P. Does have classes but the customization is very sandboxy.
Think of Landmark as the world building program being used to build EQ:N itself. It's mostly just a much better version of Minecraft. EQ:N is the game being built BY Landmark. Regarding the video, the point of what he is saying is you can create things in Landmark to be sold to other players. Landmark is all cosmetic.
As far as FFXIV:ARR goes the PvP is not exactly the strongest point of the game, but it is fun. This link will explain it more in depth than I ever could.

I can't really think of a parallel between FF1-10 and FFXIV. XIV is different but builds upon the same concept that made the original games so much fun.
I would not recommend GW2 unless you were planning on taking your time enjoying the game from 1-80. GW2 has nothing to offer end game, and the "castle sieges" or WvW as they call it, is a dumbed down version of DAoC or ESO. It is a lot of fun at first, but you start seeing the flaws in the WvW system very quickly.
GW2 has a great journey and story from 1-80, but the game ends at 80 for almost everyone I know that has played it. Still, I'd say the journey alone is worth $30. It really just depends on what you want.

I have never heard anything about multi-classing coming to GW2. Though it is nice in game - each class has different weapon skills that pretty much completely changes the way you play.
For example.
The elementalist with a staff, or scepter will play a lot more like the elementalist from GW1, where as the elementalist with dual daggers plays a lot like the popular class combo from guild wars 1, the assassin/elementalist.
You get a fair amount of variety with classes in GW2.

EQ:N - will be more like wow, rift etc. So mainly theme park with sandbox elements and it will be out in 2015.
EQ:NL - now it is only Landmark the game - is mainly sandbox. Most of content should be player-made. It is on closed beta and I think only about 15% of features are in. It will be out at the end of 2014 or beggining of 2015
Nowadays there isn't any single game worth playing. At least for me. But this year there will be quite a lot new games. But we have to wait hard for them.
Maybe if you want to "kill some time" you can try Rift. It can by played for free but you have to buy for money (or ingame money) thing from cashshop to use the auction house. Only thing that isn's in is castle siege but the rest are.
MSI GE70 - i7-4700MQ, GeForce GT 750M, 8gb ram, 750gb 7200RPM HDD and 128gb SSD
Thanks for explaining the difference between EQ:N and Landmark. It certainly makes way more sense this way.
ArcheAge:
PROS:
Elaborate, non-instanced farming and housing. Thousands of growable, interactible materials, all integrated into gameplay.
PVP integrated into the game, rather than tacked on in instances. (Trade runs over contested waters, castle sieges for the right to tax landowners)
Full cryengine physics
Gorgeous naval content (variety of ships, submarines, cannons, pirates, monsters)
Flexible class structure, (choose 3 power pools out of 10 for 120 different combinations)
Jury-based criminal justice system for same-faction "crimes". (More for entertainment and RPing than deterrence)
Vast open world
Robust for an "alpha" game, because it has been released for over a year in Asia.
CONS:
$150 entry fee until "June" closed beta drops it to $50
Meh, Vanilla WoW questing. Minimal lore and storyline.
Some juvenile chat
You will get ganked by higher level people at some point when you step into unsafe territory. Guilding makes a big difference.
Some consider the tab-target combat dated.
Predictable PVP balance issues.
Fewer dungeons and raids than contemporary AAA themeparks.
(Alpha only) Major land shortage causes intense competition for large farm spots (either by auction, PVP, or tax-expiration click-fest)
Expect unintended design consequences, as sandbox content is very sensitive to minor imbalances.
EQ:N has been marketed as sandbox.
It won't have nearly as much free-form building as Landmark, but it should not resemble WoW or Rift. You will be able to import Landmark designs into EQ:N for your (non-instanced) housing, for instance.
Furthermore they claim to have "done away with exclamation points and questions marks" and "static spawn points". They are working with some AI startups to alledgedly make NPC behavior much more dynamic.
I'm thinking of going with Archeage. Is it possible to create a viable Holy Archer DPS or Holy Melee DPS?
Basically an Archer or Melee DPS with some buffs and/or Holy "themed" abilities.
I have heard that Archery only works with Calling, though.
Any advice?
