Custom roles system patch today!

With today's maintenance at 12:00 GMT we will apply the Custom Roles System patch. Please note that our server downtime will last longer than usual.

To make your waiting time more fun, we have arranged to stream some duels using different roles, so that you get a first look on possible sets that you may use.

You only need to visit our official Twitch.TV channel to watch our stream.

Thank you

Great job AV.  Sigh...still 8 hours of work to get through.

PS: Here are the patch notes

    Performance fixes

A completely new way of rendering special effects with the aim of improving large scale combat performance. Special effects are now handled in a way that has minimal effects on FPS performance. There is also a new option under “video” option where you can reduce the SFX quality. Additionally grass rendering has also been optimized to further improve general FPS performance.

    New Content

    NEW Custom Roles system

A completely new system for creating your very own custom combat role. Mix boosters, skills, and equipment to completely customize your character functionality. Many skills, and some weapons have gone through changes to promote a balanced system that offers real variation. This tutorial video presents all the details of the new system.

Players start with some common skills and their default weapon attacks. Role skills can be purchased from the corresponding vendors.

Custom role application has a 10 minute cooldown but speaking (Pressing F) to the Sage NPC in all NPC cities resets the timer.

    Shop

An in game item shop strictly for services and fluff items. Purchase Selentine Gold through our account management system and spend it in game. To kick the system off, two items are being introduced, with more to come. Selentine gold purchase might not be available at the same time as the servers go up due to technical concerns but it will be available later today.

    Current shop items

Regressor - A service item that allows players to reset their prowess (Crafting skills will not be affected by the reset).

Identity Nullifier - A service item that allows players to change their character name. Ten day cooldown applies.

    New robe sets

•Added 2 sets of Elementalist robes
•Added 2 sets of Primalist robes

    General Changes

•Mastery-level ships nets’ are now retractable. You can do that by pressing ‘Space’ while attached onto a ship’s helm.
•Nets automatically reappear if ship health drops below 25%
•Nets can not be retracted if ship health is below 25%
    •Currently affects all ship nets
•Added smelting in house small anvil
•Boosted salvaging success rate to 70% at skill 100 (from 50%)
    •Reduced Salvaging timer by 40%
•Cannons can no longer be spawned while the character is inside the safe zone.
    •New sounds for transfer spells
•Duel request window now appears in action mode
    •Brushed up the Party UI
•Revive no longer brings you back to full stamina

    General Fixes

•Fixed a bug where the feat tracker suggested feat wasn’t using the window opacity setting.
•Fixed a bug where the feat tracker was showing suggested feats below currently tracked feats (when "Suggestion Popup" option was off).
•Fixed a bug where Suggestion popup for a feat would no longer show if it was toggled while there was a progression on that feat.
•Fixed a bug where market overview value text fields wouldn't show the full value.
•Crafting sound is now syncronised with the crafting animation.

    World fixes

Prop Fixes in the following tiles:
    Scarbourne
    Faukul

    Terrain Fixes in Marithain

This reminds me of the sort of fussy adjustments that CCP have made to Eve Online since 2008. Like CCP, Adventurine are spinning these fussy adjustments as 'major improvments'.

It's not a successful strategy: CCP have been laying off staff in 2 waves recently.

The business model that Adventurine should be copying is Frontier Developments' development of Elite: Dangerous. The idea is that you fix your engine so that you can add more stuff easily to the game.

In other words, Adventurine should start to copy examples of success, not stagnation.

Clearly you have no idea what you are talking about. Those are minor improvements that were included in the patch. The actually patch itself is a complete overall in how skills and characters are developed and molded. Not cookie cutter classes, but the ability to create your own class/playstyle. That is a huge example of success. Please do not comment on something, you clearly have no idea about.

I've had a detailed look for digital assets added to the game.

It comes to a grand total of 2 robe sets.

Well done! What an Olympic Gold effort. What could possibly go wrong?!

Seems  to be a little too late.

I have been following this game since 2001 prior to AV acquiring it.

They have been unable to develop the game in a timely fashion and ,

now they have included a cash shop :)  Meaning you will see more cash shop content than game content.

If I am not mistaken, they now have a Client price, a Subscription fee , and a Cash Shop. haha. Good luck.

Guess it's time to say goodbye after soooooo many years.

No as that would be pay2win.

The two bitter posters seem to lack the understanding what changes to the character system means and how major it is.

First time I have seen everyone in our alliance playing together and trying new builds, chatting, joy and sorrow, great debate about builds.  Seems like the whole patch just lighted up the whole game and woken it up from a deep slumber.

I don`t understand why it would be pay2win if we could buy prowess enough for one character.

I don`t know how much prowess we need to get a high level char maxed in one "role", but that char would be naked with an empty bank. He would have no pvp experience, and  would start to grind for gear. How is that pay2win when his enemies have 200000 prowess, a full bank and pvp experience?

I fail to see why killing thousands of rats x 180 quest for months just to level the char, would make the pvp part of the game better or play2win.

Its not exactly pay to win but it isn't fair and maks the game more of just a PvP arena type. It wouldnt' be healthy in the long run to allow this option and it doesn't fix the core aspects wrong with the leveling process. I get it, you just want to PvP and not have to worry about much else.

This update was a game changer. Go watch some streams if you're in doubt about what this update changed, or if you're having difficultly to believe it actually changed entirely how the game is played in both PvP and PvE (for the better).

I'm looking forward to the next updates, such as new siege equipment (trebuchets, etc.), enchanting, player and guild perks, new dungeons and mobs, naval revamp...
