And give him a crossbow so he isnt too much like the Warrior. Elves dont even wear gauntlets because it chafes their skin.

Elf needs food...I heard that often back in the 80s was it?  I still recall pumping quarters into this game.

not sure what you mean by this post....

it's not called gauntlet because they wear gauntlet type gloves.

in this game you are running through a gauntlet of traps and monsters.

that's were they get the name from.

I have many fond 80s teenage memories of this game ... I can still remember making a single quarter last well more than an hour, playing this game like a zombie at my local pool hall ... and BTW, whoever suggested that the Elf should be replaced with a Dwarf should be kicked in the a**

I remember going to the arcade at 8am and playing till 10 pm, all on one quarter!

I remember watching grown men playing this game all day.  Now that I'm in my 40's, I wonder what the heck did these guys do for a living or were just bums? I thought they were my hero back then because they taught me how to make a quarter last 12 hours.

There's no way this guy isn't a troll.

Elf is a staple of Gauntlet, I don't think Dwarf was ever in any classic Gauntlet games.

Well, money has gotten significantly less valuable and minimum wage has stagnated.

I'm not trying to make this political - but your paycheck, even at a dead-end minimum wage job went a lot further back then.

They weren't necessarily deadbeats then - and they're not necessarily deadbeats now.  But it may have been they were either not as old as you perceived, or they were successful enough they could afford to take a break now  and again.  Videogames initially didn't attract only the "child" demographic, after all - kids couldn't afford to shell out several hundred bucks for Pong and yet adults and children alike were mesmerized by it.

I knew a lot of people in EQ who lost their high-powered jobs due to the game addiction and they just got right back on track and are pretty successful to this day.  Some of them, well, they ruined their lives and marriages, and haven't really recovered those aspects fully.  But they're happy enough, it seems.
