Wow another post a person asked about this very thing, about adding arenas and bg's and the first post was the above.

Yeah i made a thread on the topic long ago, not a single person agreed it would be a good idea.

hmmm, I wonder if that's really true.

In any case, I can see ways that it could work. Heck, Lineage 2 had a type of arena for Heroes and that didn't take people away from world pvp or sieges.

It really all depends on how it's implemented.

Not saying Zenimax is capable of implementing it well, but you can have a arena pvp with different rewards and goals and still have it work with Cyrodiil pvp.

However, if Cyrodiil pvp is just flipping keeps (which it seems to be) then that's something they need to address. That only works for so long.

Which part?  Here is the link to the post i was referring to.

    Z.

The part that "no person agreed it would be a good idea. I just went through that thread and several people, myself included, didn't agree with you. Not srue how you are getting "not a single person agreed it would be a good idea."

I said that in reference to the thread I created on adding an arena long ago. The thread I linked not the one Z did.

sorry too many links and threads and sub threads and arghhhh.

In any case, "yes" an arena can be a great additional provided Zenimax makes it a unique experience.

The problem when you have "open world pvp" and then "arena pvp" is that people want to "pvp".

Open world pvp has its issues. Being overrun by giant groups, scouting around for  enemies only not to find them or to fun into an army with your 4 guys and get smashed.

Arena pvp is instant fighting (besides any lines one has to wait for) so why would anyone want the former when they can have the latter?

The open world pvp needs to "matter" in a more profound way. The arena pvp needs to be more "about" gladitorial combat" but not create better rewards than open pvp.

That was the problem with Warhammer. The battlegrounds were just more fun and fulfilling than the keep sieges.

Yes a moderator posted on the main forums that THERE IS NO ARENA COMING. They just wanted a quick way to show pvp at E3 so they had people square up 3v3.

Any graphical, audio, or gameplay restrictions not seen in other mmos but found in FFXIV can be blamed on one thing.

We actually have a knowledgebase article about this. Quoting it below:

Will the PvP we saw at E3 be added to the game?

We set this up specific for shows, such as E3, so we can get small groups working together for a quick PvP-style match.

While it’s a small taste of what our massive PvP is like in the live game, we thought it would be a fun way for folks to fight with / against each other with the limited amount of time they have at shows like this.

This mode isn't in the live game, as it’s something we specifically setup for small, quick matches. However, ESO is a living, ever-evolving game, and if we see lots of requests for smaller style PvP combat, it could be something we add in a later update.

posting to OP. Nice catch man!

    Ehl...

Hated calling you out on that one.  But lesson learned never underestimate the greed to make money and a companies need to say they wont do something but eventually do just that.

    Z.

I shouldnt be surprised they were losing ~12k subs a day according to a friend of mine who works for them in their accounting dept. They are likely desperate.

What in the hell would compel anyone to believe you?  You know a guy who knows everything.  Sure.

    This is what I think.

They are throwing AvA under the bus and going full on after console gamers who have played Skyrim and are probably not mmorpg players. I used to think it was quite cynical and exaggerated to say PC subscribers are in paid beta for the console launch, but I am changing my mind.

But they won't go f2p until they get box sales out of the console launch.

If they balanced the classes and abilities, removed RvR, made Cyrodil open pvp quests, added small games10v10  5v5 and 3v3 bgs and ranked arena. Removed Vet content and had a seperate PvP gear progression. Then I would pay for the sub for this game.

Now Playing: Bless / Summoners War
Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile

This move sounds very much like "kneejerk reaction". It follows hot on the heels of the Cyrodiil campaign changes announcement. Flinging everything imagineable at the wall to see what sticks ?

I'm beginning to suspect that in the case of ESO, the design looked good on paper, but the delivered product turned out to be something else entirely. No doubt the idea of marrying DAOC's RVR with the mighty ES RPG looked like a sure-fire winner, but the resulting identity crises ended-up alienating more people than it attracted. It delivered neither DAOC nor an ES RPG, and two very different groups of fans were left dissatisfied with the compromises required to weld together steel and wood.

Trying to force prospective PVP'ers to grind 62 levels (currently) of PVE before they can reach their full potential is just as doomed as trying to offer prospective PVE'ers the goal of Cyrodiil PVP as the "ultimate endgame".

Trying to be "all things to all players" is always a massive gamble, and almost always fails.

    Great post!

The possibility of adding small scale arena battles is yet another issue dividing the remaining ESO community.

This is serious and I'm not being snarky.

If I want a decent arena experience, I would be much better off paying a sub for WoW or SWTOR -- or playing the b2p GW2.

I'm not entirely sure that's true, and it would be a very questionable gamble, unless they can turn ESO into an excellent game by then. It's plausible to me that the game could  very well launch as F2P on the consoles.
