Well I've seen some other polls on here except this one. So post your opinions on which an online game needs more of.
I personally think that a system that gets the community to depend on one another is a pretty good system.

Well if the community is only in the forums of the game then could it really be considered a community?
When you log into a MMO and see nothing, but selling or buying this does that really give you the sense of a community?
Buyers and sellers are only a small portion of a MMO community.

Eve-Online, EQ2, DnL, SWG (Dead), Guild Wars, Anarchy Online, EQ, DAoC, Planet Side, WoW, LOTR, Tabula Rasa.
That is true and from what I've heard the only MMO that really does a good job of that is Ultima Online.

Wow...solid PvP system has 0%.

Community.
Community is what keeps people there, creates a relaxing and friendly environment.
PvP can tighten 'faction' communities, but overall PvP breaks up the overall game community and leads to resentment and other factors that break up a community.
PvP can be done without, community is essential.

Community system for the win. Want to know what game doesn't support community well at all?
RuneScape. No guilds, no teaming, no classes.
Have you SEEN what PvP leads to in these games...
Send it back to the dark ages with the rest of the outdated warlike inconsiderate concepts.
(Just look at the EVE boards if you want to see what an FFA PvP community sounds/looks like...constant fighting, disdain for all other players even some in their own game, rudeness, self-absorption...the list goes on...and on)
And that doesnt happen in other mmorpg without ffa pvp? Forum warriors are strong in any mmorpg with pvp and even in games with just pve.
You are more carebear than I though, no wonder you hate eve so much.
Nope sorry...I've been around a lot of forums and forum people...
And I've never seen ANY group ruder than the EVE crowd. And I'm talking rude to other people and particularly non-players of "their" game. Sure people spout garbage and engage in flame wars, but that's nothing compared to the conceit, ignorance and arrogance that is evinced by EVE players.
Have a look at some of the newest topics in the EVE forum and you'll get my drift. (In fact check any page on the EVE forum and you'll get at least one topic where the EVE players are up to their tricks)
(The trouble is that this attitude spreads. I was so annoyed by an EVE lover coming into the Guild Wars forum and promoting his online pay2play screen saver that I actually called him a...heaven forbid..."loser". Oh, I have to leave, the EVE name-calling is rubbing off on me.)
Call me a carebear if you want...particularly since you seem to think it means someone who is generally caring, compassionate, friendly and community-inclusive. (And this is the exact OPPOSITE to the definition I would give for EVE-players)
If the PvP game play is implemented correctly, then you'll have a good community that enjoys playing it. SOE could have such a game in Planetside, the community is there and they love the game, but SOE neglects it.
BF2 has a good community. I wish Dice/EA would make a persistant world BF2 game that play a little like Planetside...that game would no doubt consume me.
I'm never usually a big fan of PvP.
But, it really does depend on the community.
If you can't fight with your team properly, or at least communitate well with those on the same side, I don't see the purpose of it.
The one place where I actually enjoyed PvP was actually in RvR with DAoC.
Whether you're rolling in a big group or a medium-sized one, the best tactic is to..well, have one.
I do, personally, believe that communication is always number 1 on my list.
If I get into something and I see that there are no true plans, people are running everywhere and basicly "ganking" eachother, I have no desire to partake in the action.
But that's me!
Carebear is also someone like you who keep trying to fight against ffa pvp by constanly trying to bring it in bad light. You are fighting against something there is no point fighting.
I play GW too, but it sure as hell have some of most idiotic players ever. You cant even petition some whos racist idiot or even cheater. Only way cheater get caught dev team does something about it. Does these idiots mean that non-ffa pvp suck? No, it works in gw and I once in awhile play it for casual fun.
Oh please post some links to posts that got you in tears at eve-o forums as I think its too moderated most of time. Dont post some flame bait thread that got locked by moderator.
Haha...in tears, I doubt it.
I'm not talking about the EVE Online forums, I'm talking about the EVE forums HERE at MMORPG.
Also, I'm not fighting FFA PvP, I'm responding to a thread. (Although I think most FFA PvP is just an excuse for griefers...and hopefully it will die because of that, and without ME having to do a dang thing about it, let alone crusade against it )
And finally, GW does have a lot of idiots (I've said it before myself) and that's mostly because the game is free and you get early teens letting loose trying out all the swear words they know and being racist and sexist. But that's not directly aimed at other players like nearly all of the EVE-lovers' garbage is. Plus EVE isn't Free2Play, so how do you explain the immaturity shown among its players, have you all "borrowed" your parents credit cards or something?
I think Planetside had a great pvp platform. I think battlefield2 by EA had a great system. It was up to date and in realtime. It went hand in hand with the rpg aspect of a lvl system. More rank unlock lvls etc..... check the website. Planetside shows that its possible to have a more realtime system and still keep 200 people on screen at once fighting at extreme speeds. I think SOE Nerfed the game too much, and content upgrades were light.

Really, the best argument against PvPers is PvPers themselves. You don't really need to make the effort to portray them in a bad light.

Carebears rule the MMO community, meh...
Ive got two choices, run, or stay and fight...And I dont see no doors...
I have to agree on some of the content I read on this thread.
EVE players are some of the rudest people I have seen in any forum.
I dont like to accuse people, but seem to me that these EVE forum poster dont know they are rude.
Imagine an in-game forum system.
Something kind of like the player market bazaar popular in city centers in a lot of games lately. The more popular the topic, the more visually prominent the "headline", so to speak. I'm thinking newspaper idea... but even interactive, in-game billboards and/or posters would work. Heck, maybe even news banners that run across your screen (like those seen on television news channels), and when you click them, you pop open a menu allowing you to read the whole thread, and even reply to it in game!
Forums have always been great community building venues, but one problem with them is that only a small portion of players use them. If they were part of the game, a whole new community building dynamic could emerge.
In a PvP game, I can think of nothing else than plastering visual headlines of notorious gankers and griefers, or reading about the latest Ninjalooter, or reading about who is the best of the best at whatever. Many more people would learn to identify other players, other than the random chance they run into them in game.

Addicted to MMO's since '98.
No point listing my game titles, classes & levels. Accomplishing anything in an MMO these days is so bloody common that nobody really gives a crap.
Both.
PvP leads to a good community who sticks together for survival.
PvE leads to loot drama and general asshatery.
