ESO is definitly a ES game TO ME!!!

ReklawReklaw Member UncommonPosts: 6,495

So please read the tittle as I am only speaking for myself which means nobody has to agree/disagree with it as we all have our own opinions. I just tend to disagree with people who don't feel it's a ES game again doesn't make them wrong but makes it just a disagreement.

I actually like to have freedom of play and most Themepark do not offer me that, for example while I felt that story was great in SWtOR it truly put me on a linear path with little to explore excepts the instances which came over as very much on rails never the less. Still a good game, just not one I kept playing longer then 3 months. ESO on the other hand provided me that freedom, sure to maximize my characters (due to xp build) I have to do the quest which I don't mind because they actually can effect the world around you (though phased) which even gets me more immersed and I am not some new person into games that can't use a little imagination even when there are other people around me entering or completing the same quest I have done. I can still explore where ever I want, keeping in mind the more I explore the more changes me getting killed but I am not bound to explore just one area just because my level tells me too, sure might also not be able ot survive very long, but it's actually that thrill from how far can I go and survive. To me it would be boring if the gameworld scaled with your character, would give me nothing to look forward to considering my explorer nature.

In ES games I was free to have playsessions that might only be about exploring, gathering resources, crafting only issue with crafting was that I became very unbeatable very quickly which limited the fun in exploring/gather in singleplayer ES games . In ESO I often have playsession not doing a single quest and enjoy doing these different activities in the beautifull world Zenimax has created with a big bonus to be able to interact with other players..

While we have preselected classes the freedom to build them is there, obviously in a more MMORPG suitable form but it's there, if you want to make a sorcerer wielding a 2 handed weapon you can build that. The respec aka Shrines help along the way the build my character the way I want it to succeed.

The lore is deep and when I take the time it puts me even deeper into the game like ES games also do which shows they really put effort in making this game like a ES game especially with it's lore thru questing and books to read.

Each chapter in ES games are very different from each other, ESO to me fits perfect well in that list.

I am aware of certain ingame issue's some I have encountered myself but mostly aware due to what I read and not what I experianced myself. And of course each patch notes makes shows fixes to certain issue's I might not have encountered or simply wasn't aware it was a issue. For example I would be less aware of issue's in PVP since I only PVP'd in beta and havn't really since. Did encounter a few grouping issue's, but since last month not had these issue's.

Could the game be different, sure it could, I could come up with a hugh list of a Elder Scroll online game I would make. But the thing is as a gamer I play what is given, I either like it or I don't. Elder Scrolls Online I like very much.

For now the game is a keeper for me, playing since 3 day headstart and highest character out of 4 is 23, the other 3 are 20

I pretty much agree with most of the things you wrote which is why it is currently my favorite MMO, but I just wish they would....

    1) Make certain things less static...like anchors. Make them less zerg fests and more meaningful. The world just needs a little more dynamic stuff. World bosses that roam, etc.

    2) Redesign some dungeons and some buildings so they aren't all cookie cutter.

    3) I wish it was classless. I am not a fan of the class templates. I just think it makes things more confusing.

    4) Add a few more solo dungeons that are much much larger and varied similar to the single players games.

    5) Add even more side things to do.

    6) I wish they didn't have veteran ranks and instead focused more on creating alts with Craglorn being at level 50, but that is just my personal preference.

I'm a big fan of the artistry/style, music, quests in comparison to other games, variety of ways to spend skill points, character customization, feeding my horse :-), I actually like the combat a lot despite what others feel. Its just a very good blend to me of tab targeting WOW mechanics and the more action oriented current games with dodge, block, interrupt, etc. I think the game still has a lot of potential, but it still has a ways to go. I love that within the areas you can pretty much roam anywhere and I love the hubless questing system.

    Anyway, good write up OP.

That's cool that ESO feels like an ES game to you.  If it felt like an ES game to me I might be playing it too.

Some of us have looked at the cover art of ES and compared it to ESO and said yup that's it. Then there are those of us who have actually played ES and know that ESO does not do the ES series any justice. Perception is magnificently ugly.

I'll agree within a zone ESO was nice for doing as you feel, better than most, but still limited as hell compared to real mmos !

My bigger complaints were more, not seamless, only one zone to choose, and the mega server REALLY turned me off. lots of other quirks but not as big.

With Vanilla WoW I can log on and choose AT LEAST 30 diffrient directions. Bootybay, Hunterlands, finish a few quest in Desolace, or start a new zone in Tanaris. I can help that guy having a hard time over their and become friends. or do Uldaman, Scarlet monastery, or try for a group to do ZF or Mara. Playing a Warlock, I have so much utility it's amazing !...It's a fun class :)

I was never a big fan of the ES games, so the fact it wasn't a recreation of Skyrim was actually a plus for me.  It was a decent theme park MMO, the quests were the best I've experienced so far, and I didn't really mind the phasing since I was playing the game largely solo, which it clearly is well designed for.

The world was beautiful, though I would have preferred few players per instance, I did feel it was a bit over the top some times just trying to get a hit in on the boss before he died.

At the end of the day, the VR design/grind was not something I was looking for so decided to find something else to play.  All my guildmates still seem to love it, they're all still playing and working their way through the lower VR ranks, and PVPing a lot.

It's OK, I did find a new game more to my liking so no worries, every game can't please every person, and I'm pretty hard to please due to my more eclectic tastes.

    Understand what you are saying.

Don't get me wrong ESO is definitly not my holy grail when it comes to MMORPG because my heart goes out to the more sandbox type of MMORPG. So the last few years I have taken steps into themepark and either accepting what they are or didn't play some at all.

I am also very hard to please. ESO is actually the first MMO since years I actually bought at release, I never ever pre-ordered a MMORPG at all ever, yet ES beta made me want more. My last bought games where Aion (lasted a week) and DCUO(lasted a few weeks)

I have no idea if when I hit VR if it's to my liking. I am too far away from that. Reading some of the road ahead shows the things they are working on, might get in this year, I am betting many of those feature's I want might not make it this year but hopefully next year such as housing. Still not betting on it, for now enjoying what is given......

But currently am also afraid of upcoming sandbox MMORPG's due to the toxic nature of many forum posters who for some reason are incapable of sharing even the slightest positive thing about games or games they do like. Definitly not aimed at you Kyleran as even if I might have disagreed with you with certain things on this forum you are alway's a person open to discussions which is what I feel forums are made for. I also read about games you do enjoy unlike some posters that only are negative towards what ever game that seems populair to bash for them.

Glad you found that game to enjoy as that's the most important thing to me as a gamer to see other gamers find that game regardless if I might like or not like that game.
