SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

A new KickStarter campaign has started for a Western-themed sandbox MMO called Bone Gulch. The game is already in development by Nesoi Tech and is primed for a multi-platform release in Q3 2015. The team is hoping to secure funds to complete Bone Gulch's development.

In Bone Gulch, your destiny is determined by your actions within the game. Featuring an advanced crafting-system, a unique bounty system, a 1 vs 1 combat system, and extensive player customization with plenty of weapons, upgrades and accessories, get ready for some gun-slinging fun!

Check out the Bone Gulch KickStarter page for more information.

I guess when all your demo shows is a player running round killing everything in sight you don't really need to show any other systems as they will be totally unimportant.

100% interested in the subject matter of the Wild West.

100% uninterested in this game though.

This probably won't go far cause of the non AAA graphics / animations.

    I totally agree- Un-fucking-believable..

Is this an arcade game or an MMO? Doesnt even look like you loot your (massive amount of) kills as you get a 'score' above our head.

I am a history buff with the Wild West being one of my favorite periods. I would love a wild west mmorpg...This isnt the one.

EDIT- Am I reading the KS page right? they have 3 backers and raised 90K pounds...Already making over 1/3 what they initially asked for??With such little information? I find it really hard to believe that they are averaging 30K per backer with...This.

Somethings fishy (again) with another Kickstart project. I really hope some of these scammers are sued. This is hurting legit Kickstart projects as trust is eroding due to unscrupulous devs".

I'm not interested in Wild West anything. I suspect this will be a tough sale.

While I would absolutely love a wild west MMO, this isn't going to be it. I understand this is pre-alpha footage, but... for God's sake, did you people even TRY?!?

First off, the environment looks far too sterile. Everything is clean as a whistle, as if the pre-rendered dust clouds are just... well, pre-rendered props (like the static weather in SWTOR).

Second off, there are Atari 2600 games with better animation than this. Again, it's pre-alpha, but you're trying to SELL this game to people with this footage. You couldn't spend a few hours trying to make the animations look less like some 9 year old kid's first attempt at stop-motion? Wait, I take that back, stop-motion has a certain charm to it, even if it is badly done. Your game has none of that.

Third off, you're just running around shooting people who aren't able to shoot back. Even worse is the fact that there's a damn SCORE hovering above the character's head. Seriously? Not one of you people saw that and thought, "Wow, that looks really stupid. We should change that!"

Fourthly (and lastly, for the sake of brevity) slapping badly rendered cowboy hats on everyone, using an 'old-timey' font, putting cacti everywhere, and playing a twangy public domain song from the soundtrack of a wild west film doesn't make your game 'western-themed'. It's about overall feel and presentation as well as content, and your demo captures nothing of that.

If you can't even be bothered to put together a halfway decent video, then what the hell makes you think people will trust you to do a better job with the game itself? I doubt anyone was expecting to be blown away, but I (and probably most others) were expecting something better than what appears to be an extremely crappy N64 game.

AN' DERE AIN'T NO SUCH FING AS ENUFF DAKKA, YA GROT! Enuff'z more than ya got an' less than too much an' there ain't no such fing as too much dakka. Say dere is, and me Squiggoff'z eatin' tonight!

We are born of the blood. Made men by the blood. Undone by the blood. Our eyes are yet to open. FEAR THE OLD BLOOD.

I was excited and pictured Red Dead online...then I saw...whatever the hell that was that I just saw. Graphics aren't everything but damn...that's awful.

Are there enough people out there willing to pay a monthly fee for that? What will they offer that other fps games don't? With the budget that they have and given that they are not really building anything special other than theme. So why not just a multiplayer fps with some rpg elements. I don't believe that they can deliver what is needed to make a successful mmo. Not on that budget.

There is a lack of western themed fps games out there. Go the Greenlight route. Have some streamers pick it up for a couple matches when there's a map or two finished and just let them have fun killing each other or ripping your game to pieces. As long as they are laughing and having fun it equals sales. I look at the video and then take into account that much worse looking games have made millions.  Kind of makes me scratch my head a little.

Yeah I would love a Wild West MMO; this is not it.

I really like the wild west theme.. but that is not a very good kickstarter page.

If a company is going to try and kickstart a game they really need to try and sell the product to the people who might back it.. that kickstarter pages does not do that at all..

Sorry will be giving this one a miss.

Looks less like a sandbox and rather more like a deathmatch.

Can't have a sandbox without a box, hard rules and constraints that limit what players can do and provide real consequences to actions.

For example, Concord in EVE is a box. This bounty system doesn't seem like much of one, a wet cardboard box at best...

I like the idea but man they should of skipped the game play video and just talked about what they had planned and maybe showed some SS.  It's hard to make a game so I wish them luck and recommend they change their approach.

The idea crossed my mind, create a basic game using Unity and collect a ton of cash off kickstarter then close the development process.  Just saying this smells of the same to moi.

Cute Idea, just bad execution.  I think the problem resides with using the unity engine.  A MMO has to have a lot more than just shooting everyone in sight.

That's what I don't understand basically. You summed it up in not so many words.  They actually seem pretty capable. What they show looks on par for the average game being campaigned through Greenlight. Granted less there though they seem capable. Use the money not spent on making a mmo when it's more complete and get a couple of popular channels onboard to  play it for a bit.  Given the lack of western themed games something like this could be a hit for a little while at least . Why a mmo? So risky.  Seems crazy cause that actually looks like it has potential to be kind of gimmicky and fun as a $9.99 - $19.99 title provided they develop a decent bit of content. Which should be a walk in the park for them if they are planning / capable of doing a mmo. I don't know..

Nothing at all wrong with using Unity as a base for a MMORPG.. there are many many network solutions out there that plug directly into Unity to allow you to run 1000s of players in the same game..

Thinking about it i would say unity is the best choice for any idie comapny wanting to make a mmorpg..

-Guys, forget how it looks for  a second. Many of us prefer depth over pretty colors and  high definition explosions with bullet time. Many of us use our imagination and have had more fun in MUDs and Tabletop games than the next bif AAA Graphic explosion and action fest-

-Put all that aside for a sec...

And explain how they have 90K with 3 backers based on what is shown?

There is no way. No way at all- They already have 90K with 3 backers.

Something is really fishy here- Unity aside....

    Ha- Thanks.

Not sure what I was seeing. I just double checked and you are correct.

Thats my main issue with the game (and evidently a non issue)- Other than that I think a sandboxy western game would be cool but still think this is going to be a PVP game disguised as a sandbox- Heres hoping for the best then.

    -Thanks.
