Enjoy your pvp grind where you now have to collect stars to get stuff.
AND the guy that said in AA you have to motivate yourself to do things in AA not just raid.... Well I guess which one sounds like a job. If you get to the point where you have to motivate yourself to do stuff at the end game it shows that the end game in AA is dead.
Enjoy your schoolboy pvp any button bash random no skill gameplay where even a 5 yr old can join a boss fight and repeatedly hit the same button for a zergfest.
Yes very skillful unlike raids
If you have to motivate yourself in any end game then you should move on. So instead of making it a pve grind its a pvp grind. Whats the difference? Its still a grind is it not and they all feel like a job anymore. The days of grinding needs to come to an end. These games should be about fun not gear chasing.
The only grind is the grind you make for yourself. Not every game is compatible with every player. I personally enjoy setting goals for myself to achieve within ArcheAge. I don't feel as if it's a grind, I am having fun. This is a issue of personal taste, which is what I tried to make clear in the article.
How much fun you have in ArcheAge is up to you. If you aren't willing to set goals and then strive to achieve them, the game won't poke and prod you to do so. It won't bug you or push you to accomplish anything. You have to be self-motivated.

When you get to the bed you will find you have nothing to do as there is no focused endgame no raids or nothing. Absolute boredom after a long grind and that's why it's a long grind to keep you away from the end.
Lol enjoy it.
You have absolutely NO idea what youre talking about (aside from the fact that endgame raids etc. are the fucking worst grind ever exsisting (you do the same boring shit to do the same boring shit faster), meaning this is an improvement in every possible way)
To me this game sounds like a fantasy version of E.V.E. , which is wonderful. A player driven world, a deep crafting system, the best PvP ive seen since shadowbane, and a good amount of PvE content to play through.
Ive never understood how people can judge something before its released. It's due a major patch soon(ish) and in my mind the only people that could sorta know what they're saying right now are people that play the Korean server.
IMO it looks awesome and everything Ive wanted for so long. This game is very Picard
I wish you had mentioned the fact that Archage are changing the game under our feet by forcing us to have to do pvp in order to get anything in game. This will happen in the next patch called patch 1.2
In the game you need Gilda Stars to get hold of anything meaningfull: house, fast mount, car, etc, etc.
Up till now to get gilda stars you have to make up a trade pack and take it to a trader, on your own ladmass. should you choose to cross the see and enter pvp you will get even more gilder star that usual.
After patch 1.2 all this will change. Gone are all none pvp options, now you are forced to go pvp to get the gilda stars to get your house or anything else.
awwww. they force you to pvp?
usually all comments so far where "damn, you don't like archage? you must be a pveler. archage is open world pvp! get used to it!"
"I'll never grow up, never grow up, never grow up! Not me!"

So what is the difference with raiding exactly? People think only raiding is the end game as that is what WoW told them it should be. Raiding is grinding to the max. All you do is the same area over and over again until you finally won the roll for that piece of armor or weapon you wanted so badly...and then you go to the next raid to get the gear there. How is that not grinding?
I don't play MMORPG's for raids. I don't like raids, i never needed raids to keep a game fun for me when i was max level. I take joy out of doing PvP and RP. When i hit the level cap it means i don't have to lvl up anymore and got time to do those two things without needing to lvl up to get into certain area's that otherwise would be out of my level reach.
It is to early for me to say if ArchAge will be a great RP game. But it has potentional.
And people seem to have forgotten what MMORPG's where all about. MMORPG's is not Raids and endgames only. A good MMORPG gives you a living breathing world. A world you can lose yourself into. A world that you love to visit and love to be part of. An MMORPG isn't all about combat and only getting the great equipment by defeating bosses in locked away zones called raids. In games like Ultima Online and Star Wars Galaxies (before Sony screw up) you could be a pure crafter who hardly saw any combat. In SWG as bounty hunter your end game could be just hunting other players for rewards as people could put a bounty on other players. Others their end game was to become the greated armor smith you had ever seen in the game or establish a great RP order in the game.
I haven't played AA, i can't say anything yet if it becomes boring quickly or not. But i do know that MMORPG's or rather RPG's in general are grindy, doesn't matter what. The difference is "what does a game offer next to the grind". As of late MMORPG's don't give anything else. Atleast of what i seen this game tries to give some variation. It looks like you got plenty of other things to do to get nice things. I never understood why only defeating bosses in raid's should get you the amazing stuff anyway.
Grinding will always be there but i rather grind in the open world then being locked in some dungeon for hours with people who think they are more entitled to get that piece of armor because they don't have to go to work the next day, don't have a family to take care so they got 20 hours a day and only sleep 4 hours. I rather grind resources and have someone else make that great armor that i wanted. I rather grind in PvP where i can decide when i do it and leave when ever i want too then being stuck for 5 hours in some dungeon. But most importantly for me is how the world is presented to me. I don't need anything but a nice believeable world to keep me entertained in the game. A good mature community and great RP is all i need to keep me playing for a long time. Sadly that's what been lacking the most for the last 5 years as communities seem to be drama driven these day's, but that is a whole other discussion i won't bother you with here right now.
Great post.
This should be a sticky.
The game you are looking for requiring no PvE completion and where you can just jump in and start mindlessly shooting at people is that way - >>>>
... it's called an FPS.
Quit ruining the MMORPG genre with your constant "PvE grind" whines.
This game has the least level grind of any I've played so far. I can't keep myself from leveling lol. I do a lot of crafting/farming/gathering in addition to questing and I've outleveled my quests by at least 10 levels.
You can absolutely level in this game without ever doing any pvp or even killing any mobs. You get large amounts of exp with the crafting system. I guess you'd need to do enough early level quests to get enough money to actually put down a farm, buy your first seeds and a certificate of quality for your first trade pack but that's about it.
You can also do questing in the pvp zones with zero risk during times of peace which last for a few hours and are clearly marked on the map with a timer. Oh and did I mention that you lose NOTHING when you die in pvp except for the usual pointless item "damage" and honorpoints if you are killed during a war time only (1 of 6 stages in a pvp zone, peace, 4 danger levels and an actual war time).
Even on the open ocean with a ship, the worst that can happen is your ship is put into a "destroyed" state that you have to repair with an item that you can buy from the AH or make yourself.
The one thing beside honor points you can lose in pvp is a trade pack. So, if that's too much loss (which it shouldn't be) then just stick to intra-continental trade runs for gold and buy what you want off the AH.
So yeah, you can absolutely experience all of this game's pve content without ever engaging in pvp. But why wouldn't you at least try pvp since there's absolutely nothing to lose?
Frankly, that's the game's long term weakpoint if you ask me. There is no item/ship/asset destruction in the game unlike in EVE. Eventually the economy will fail and people will get bored because they've accumulated everything possible. That's why Trion/XL instituted the gilda star changes because the original design wrecked the Korean version's economy. At least now the end will come a lot slower in the Trion version.

Nah. It would be nice if it were, but it lacks the basic drivers. Item loss/decay enforce an ongoing economy and make entry level gear adequate for many situations which in turn equalizes level differences to a degree. A crafting grind with inbuilt power creep in gearing up is shortlived in comparison and enforces additions, patches and expansions with even more power creep.
But hey, after such a long time with gear grinding hamster wheels it is still a nice addition to the fantasy MMO market.

You're right, but isn't having your character stuck on an off-server effectively a wipe then? I'm not sure how it's gonna work, that's why I'm asking.
sorry guys...not true.
I actually stopped playing after asking a TRION service rep on the phone if in fact the Alpha server will be wiped and she said "it would eventually be after the full release".
So to be clear I asked..."so everything we have on this server will be gone?"
"Yes"
how are they going to handle this is players actually used cash to buy items?
not sure.
sorry, I was not interested in asking because I was just happy I didn't do so before hearing it'll all be wiped.
I wonder how long Trion plans to milk this pay for alpha and then the beta... I mean jeeze, an MMORPG that is already built and only needs to be translated does not take this long to accomplish.
This was proven by how fast a crappy game company like Aeria Games was able to translate Aura Kingdom without any grammatical errors or confusing phrases. Aura Kingdom was literally released overseas in the summer of last year and then was live in the winter of the same year here in the NA, so Trion's excuse for ArcheAge taking a while to translate for a Western audience is complete and utter crap.

sounds good for the Korean developers to get rid of this "grindy" term from their games.
i will wait to see how it will be for ArcheAge when it will be released. For now i am not going to spend half monthly salary for a beta ...

Trion is just being greedy, plain and simple.
Smile
didn't sit well with me either.
wouldn't you translate a game before bringing it to a market?
