Hello all!  We are considering adding a new game to the list that borders on the MMORPG/MMORTS genre. The game is called Mankind (not Face of Mankind).  Here are some facts:

  • You can research the game at their site - http://www.mankind.net
  • You control many units (like a RTS)
  • You gain experience and technology over time (like an RPG)
  • The world is persistent and ever-evolving with thousands of people online

    It sounds and looks like a "MM", but the graphics leve something to be desired.  Looks kinda dull.

    well you added planetside, which is also an mmorpg blended with another genre, so why not add this 1.

    Yes, and we voted like this too...so we will just see what the outcome is after a few days and add it if the members want it on the list.

    graphics arent too horrible (like runescape) and i dont dig the whole control-units thing, but people that like starcraft and c&c might enjoy this, sure add it.

    i dont really like the graphics of runescape i would rather play a 2d game instead of runescape

    Add it. It is an rpg/rts, bu the main point is that it still is a rpg. It just is a blend. So I think it should be added. Good graphics aren't as important as gameplay. If the game is fun, then the graphics won't matter......much image

    It is a mmog, not mmorpg. So i guess its kinda in the grey zone. Personaly I have to say yes. As long as u have to pay a monthly fee and u have a charater to your account, then it belongs here.

    Ater all Plantside is on the list, so so should this game! Its pretty much the same.

    I would say no because your website is called MMORPG.com, as time grow and the MMO industry grows more websites will be made for this type of game. When i search the web I focus on the words exactly so deviating from it would require you to either buy MMO.com or MMORTS.com.

    If your choice is to include it atleast do subdivision of news/gamelist etc so that people can seek for precise information. I certainly believe coherent division could be made on more websites, therefore i can only encourage you to do so on this one! :p

    Simple example of a division that could be made to this website would be RPS and RPG or even Sci-fi and Fantasy themes ( I know its already done for Sci-fi and Fantasy in the list im suggesting to do it more globally.)

    Like everyone said before, its an RTS

    Its like saying WC3 is a rpg because you lvl up your char.  While the game may include rpg aspects, its not an rpg because its a Strategy game first.

    Not really an rpg, but as said before is on a grey zone, I say yes it should be added, but personally is not of my taste.

    I would say it ranks alongside Planmetside for developemnt - so yup go put it up.

    Of course, how long before we see Lords of Everquest ?

    No its not a mmoRPG

    It is a RTS.

    Planetside is a MMORPG becuase you take on the role of people.

    I don't see how you can consider WWII a mmorpg, and not Planetside.

    But i may be wrong, ive never played either so....

    Aye, digity I agre, also the game has enough elements to make it an MMORPG to me, but as well since you have WWII Online here, why not this one?

    Too many misconceptions about the term RPG. This doesnt mean fantasy like EQ. RPG is defined by the people who play it and whether or not players assume their character and play like they are in that world and not in our own.  So i say if the game is interactive enough so that players can role play then it is a MMORPG.

    This game should not go up there. Admin your starting to put non rpgs on the list! You gotta stop now. Is this site called mmorpg.com or am i wrong? Your letting non rpg games go on the list you started with one and now your starting to let other mmos on the list stop now.  Your taking away the sites name remember its mmoRPG.com keep it that way

    Well, the games that are on the list now I believe are all MMORPGs.  This is the first one that I really questioned.  The reason I question this one is that you really don't take the role of a *single character* - rather just some commander of many disposable units.

    Games like WWII Online and the Sims Online have lots of RPG elements, even though they are not the classic "slay the dragon" fantasy style games that many associate with the term RPG.

    It does appear that this game is being voted off the island...I will likely close this topic up tonight.  Thanks for your contribution everyone image

     I don't think it really matters. If it is added will it really cause mass chaos and destruction to the site? Oh well i don't really care i'm just posting so i get a better chance to win the ATI 9800 image.

    I personally don't see a problem with this being added to the list.  There are definately rpg elements present.  Sure this site is dedicated to MMORPGs, but why does it have to be that exclusive?  what about games that rpg fans might like that are MMOs?  As long as this site continues to focus on MMORPGs, there shouldn't be any problem with adding other MMOs to the game list.

    Well, I can tell you one problem that arises.  If you let one MMORTS in - you will have to let them all in.  How do you explain to a company that you can't let their game in when there is one almost like theirs already on the list.

    Honestly, in 3-5 years nearly EVERY game will be an MMO.  If we don't stay within a niche the quality of this site will fade away.  It is already nearly impossible to keep up with nearly 110 titles.
