After two long years of waiting, Trion has finally pulled back the curtain on what’s next for RIFT: Nightmare Tide. Announced during this week’s State of the Game letter, Executive Producer Bill Fisher tantalized fans with hints of what’s to come. With a few hints under our belt, we sat down with Bill, as well as a Lead Content Designer, Mike Daugherty, and Community Manager, Eric “Ocho” Cleaver, to talk about just what players can expect from Nightmare Tide.

I agree with you on that, only buts I have to many people bad mouth rift, even on this site and many other, 90% of the time they tall tails lies with noting to back them up, if rift can get pass the wow or wildstar fanboy people, be good success if it done right.
that first picture looks really cool, but if it wasnt for the Rift logo i would say its a wow login screen.
Aside from that, cant wait for the new expansion. I want to see what will improve with that update.
yep I was thinking it looked like some updated Serpentshrine Caverns or Sunken Temple
It takes one to know one.
Really? Serious? I'd rather have no mount than that ugly thing.
It takes one to know one.
I too, got to have it, they showed it off on the live stream.
Agreed, my thought was that is just another addition brought to you by WoW.
The base idea of Rift is great, but its too much like WoW and that is the reason why it isn't more popular, it isn't as good as WoW so why would people leave it to play Rift and why would you play Rift since its just a clone...if only they had taken a few steps more to the right and made a more innovative game, it could be far more popular for offering something really different.
Not something they could really do, it's built right into the engine. The majority of the games visual assets are run through the CPU rather than the GPU for reasons that elude me atm.
When rift came out it was so much trying to be a wow clone, atm they moving away from being a wow clone being it's own game, doing more with rifts, and other stuff that wow don't have it self.
Unlike wildstar doing same thing rift did at start, copying wow to much, making it close to a clone then having a new idea.
But you can't blame them for copying some wow ideas, as wow ideas, is copy from other games.
Is why I find rift unique is more on there rift's and world event. and thats what 3.0 going bring more unique stuff, but it will have some copy, but at times just new ideas can seem good on paper but never work out why it's in the game.

Raid gear yeah there some in the cash shop, but is more catch up gear for people willing to pay for it, but the top end gear not up there to pay for, just they have to work for it,(many lazy people in mmo this days), even someone got the gear, they still have to raid all of the old content, to learn how things work. but there not push to buy the catch up gear people are willing they can still don't make it any way better or less if they have it sooner then you can.
For AA is was alpha, is a free game down the road, as trion didn't push or have to pay for $150 for it, they willing do it them self. So can't blame them for doing it, as many mmo this day made you pay alot more just to get in a broken game.
They won't. They also don't need to. Rift will never be a major player, but it will be around a long time (as long as Trion stays in business anyway, but I don't see that as much of a risk these days).
EQ2 has been low pop for years and still gets a yearly expansion and 3-4 major patches a year (although they've switched to a weekly small content model recently). And EQ2 doesn't promote itself 1/10th as much as Rift does and still manages.
The class system in Rift is what keeps me playing. There are so many builds. It never gets stale because I have basically 6 different classes on my main character to switch between at any time.
I think it will only be rivaled by Archeage's class system.
Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile
There always seems to be a lot of purple and green in this game.
Probably not the prime focus of many people, just something that comes to mind.
Yeah, nobody is going to trump WoW with a WoW clone. Especially considering they've had so many years to polish their game design. I just don't get why the industry decided that WoW is the only way to design MMOs, it's pretty obvious at this point that it's not going to work.
Because WoW took basically every "midi-evil" or "ancient" design concept and pulled it into one game in a fantasy setting. Now if anyone wants to design a game based with similar setting, midi-evil or ancient fantasy type, its going to technically branch from that type of design. Also the amount of fantasy book references via different NPC names and story/lore lines likely hints that WoW devs base a lot of design from fantasy books as well. Having fans of such type in another game company would almost certainly yield same results. So its not so much a WoW clone, as it is WoW and RIFT have the same non-game influences, along with other MMO midi-evil fantasy games.
I like what you bring it completely interesting and rewarding,
