Well I have been playing for the last 4 months just to give it a go again. But what I have found is a combination of oversimplification meets instant gratification. The removal of any complexity at all to the "talent system" which by now is just essentially a skill bar. Once I got to the level I could do dungeon finder I was 90 in a few weeks of random button pushing. The gold market is totally BROKEN, I mean not MU online Broken but its trying real hard. Between Trasmog items and goldsellers the inflated prices along with devalue makes the market place a joke. So if you take JC and mining like I did you can make a fortune selling prospected low level gems. PVP combat now feels like an uninspired selection of predictable abilities its not like in the old days now its been dumbed down for dumb players and it shows. You get sidelined into one option depending on patches. Next expansion they are removing CC from the game, which means on top of the sameness and blandness it will now play like GW2 zergs.
Also for you old players thinking of coming back, battlegrounds from top to bottom are one big Twink battlezone now. Everyone is in heirloom gear with enchants and the que times are an eternity, long gone are the days of fun casual pvp in the world or bg environment. Just starting in level 90 BGs means you at least need to be 515ish to even put a dent in people Arena gear would be a better option, so just run 2s. But the classes are just so BORING to play the dummy mode is way out of hand. The children have taken over this game.
Anyway yes I cancelled again, no compelling reason to keep playing honestly.
The only thing I dont feel comfortable about these newer mmos such as Wildstar and TESO is the fact they will probably go f2p within a year of WoW:WoD release. That seems to be the common trend with these subscription games. They either become b2p or f2p with people Q.Q'ing about how they wasted 50$+sub fees on the game only for it to happen. Patience is truly a virtue in today's society it seems.
I hear you OP. I am disenchanting with current MMO outings as well but I chalk it up that my playstyle is no longer relevant (i.e. - Devs wont make games I like anymore). Currently playing ArcheAge and have cautious optimism. I'm afraid of PvP because I'm not good at it but there is something about it that appeals to me here. I don't know how real it is because I am still low level and the game is not released... but it honestly cant be as bad as what's available.
I have my eyes on EverquestNext. I know its not going to be like EQ1 but I am curious of what SOE's re-imagination of it will play like. The whole voxel concept is interesting on paper and if can be realized in a good way that may work for me.
Played WoW, ESO, Wildstar, Archeage, Aion, TERA, GW2 and a ton more.
Sadly i didnt like Wildstar, Aion was to easternised, TERA EU is horribly optimised for certain things and ESO was fun for a very very small time but got annoyed since thr graphics are the only thing in the game.. and even those are avarage.
WoW ofcourse took the most time... about 5 -6 years, GW2 did take a small part of my life (i treated it as an single player as the storyline is really great), latelky been playing Archeage and as much criticism it may recieve... i really am loving it.
I think Archeage and Everquest Next will probably be my goals for the coming years :P .. also cant wait for Warhammer Eternal Crusade tbh, but not THAT much information out there yet.
eso dont like the control set up one bit and the class set up a tank class with a staff ?.
wild star had a blast playing this but on my comp it runs bad for some reason freezes from time to time lagg.
playing ff relm reborn at the moment like the chilled out pace ).
has for wow well i am thinking of subbing again i like the logg in two or 3 dungeons then logg back out and they dont take hrs to do plus i like the look of wow always have ).
only subb to two mmos at a time so for me think it will be ff and thinking of wow for now i got the last expansion from last year but not done much on it yet

Best to stick with World of Warcraft if you want premium quality MMO.
