I'm so excited dude !!
a question for current players, Is the duty finder still locked with specific roles per class?
All these updates are flipping good, but if i cannot join dungeon as a warrior dps then im not coming back. As long as the party gets a tank, a healer and 2 dps there shouldnt be a problem with removing the role lock.... That single issue is really keeping me out of the game, just like it did with EQ2.
EDIT: dps is a universal role. Every class is dps in games regardless of roles. I hope they address that.
Doesn't mean they're viable as a dedicated damage dealer, don't expect anything like that to get addressed ever. By your definition, scholars can que up as a dps......Thats a joke.

You cannot join a dungeon as a dps as a warrior because warriors are not dps in final fantasy 14 they are tanks end of story. Also every class is not dps every class is designed for a specific role.
AN' DERE AIN'T NO SUCH FING AS ENUFF DAKKA, YA GROT! Enuff'z more than ya got an' less than too much an' there ain't no such fing as too much dakka. Say dere is, and me Squiggoff'z eatin' tonight!

I didn't do wolves den but I will definitely partake in 72 player king of the hill and capture the flag. Chocobo raising is going to be a lot of fun. Those hunts look interesting ill do a few. More outfits, emotes, marriage, dual riding, etc. All great rp enhancing stuff. Really impressed with these devs.
I think thats why they need to branch out with the gear tbh. Warrior is in FF and just MMOs in general the jack of all trades of weapons/armor. They should come out with sets of gear that are built to make it so you can play the role differently. A guy with a giant axe should defnitly be able to deal some great damage, i mean the fricken bard here which was NEVER a DD in any FF game is weirdly one of the top DDs and honestly barely a buff class like it "should be".
more unique gear sets with some special stats that can help build you to different roles would be great, a warrior can build really tanky or really damaging, then people would not have to que as just want, even if being a DD in this game means waiting way longer than needed.
And if you think certain jobs are stuck in there role...well check out that 4 WHM pt that rocked haukue manor(sp?), looked like a heck of a lot of fun and it broke the mold to say the least.
it seems this is the path the game is following anyways. Arcanist branches out to Scholar ( healer ) and Summoner ( DPS) , all you do to switch the jobs is replacing the soul stone thats it. So i definitely see MRD branching out to another job for example beserker and just switch soul stone too.
since you are a bard now, expect the other job to be ranger both branched out from Archer
Problem with bard right now is that they treat is far too much like a ranger already with how powerful damage-wise it is. I think giving them that much damage and only a couple songs that seem far to vital in a way was the wrong way to go. If they lowered the damage (not just from using songs) and gave a reason to always use songs. Give boosts that are useful and not such a heavy part of peoples stratagize to win fights, like attack/def boosts, skill/spell speed buffs, lower enemy stats, constant regen..ect and make it so you can use more than one so people mix it up than id love it. Turning them into ranger would just not make sense, you gonna turn an already top end DD into a...DD?
I dont mind the branching jobs, they just didnt seem to build most of the classes out there now with that in mind it seems. I also am very curious if they go through with and how they will implement "hybrid" jobs like they wanted to do (like Redmage) and how that would play out with the very strict trinity (especially in endgame)
Part of the reason why i have a hard time seeing hybrids work is that most endgame can be very punsihing if you dont 1) follow the script (basically) you die too often to instant wipe mechanics or need things to be too role orianted to get through things like DPS checks and heal bombing that can go on during some of the fights.
I've been tempted to resub to try out of the new content from the patch. Going to agree with some posters about the class / job system, though. It's way too inflexible (which seems kind of ironic given that it was supposed to GRANT flexibility, not take it away...).
For example, yes a warrior is indeed a tanking job in Final Fantasy XIV ARR, but the warrior has never been strictly tanking in previous entries, so it feels off to a lot of people who are coming from single player Final Fantasy games or even Final Fantasy XI. It's kind of ironic that World of Warcraft's warrior is more like a Final Fantasy style warrior than the Final Fantasy XIV job! =p
The solution from Square Enix? Play a different job! That's great... if someone actually wants to do that. We tend to be fickle people when it comes to personal taste, so if someone wants to be an axe wielding dedicated damage dealer and the game basically says "no you can't be an axe wielding damage dealer" it's pretty self explanatory what the reaction is going to be.
Also, as for those that are saying "take off the job crystal and your set" I say this: just how often do you personally take your job crystal off after you get it? Not only do you have to manage two skill sets on the hot bar, but you lose out on some of the most powerful abilities in the game. The entire idea of gaining flexibility by not playing a job is a lie because you lose the ability to be viable at the stages where it matters most and where players spend the majority of their time: end game.
So, not saying Final Fantasy XIV is a bad game because of this, just that it's not the prettiest duckling on the lake that some folks would have people believe. The OST is godly, though.
we will know soon once this patch hit. it will introduce 72man field for pvp with a very VERY similar style to GW2 minus the seige weapons which supposedly will be added in a later patch. so yea in terms of 1v1 i dont think it will ever manage to balance that but in terms of group vs group or zerg vs zerg, I think it will be good.
