I'm not a raider either and I find enough stuff to do in Rift to keep me coming back.
- You can get better gear at 60 by collecting currency from zone events and dailies. It's not raiding gear, but you will certainly be powerful enough for open world stuff. You can grind rep too for better things if you want.
- Artifact collecting can be a huge time sink if you're into that sort of thing. Artifacts are little shinies hidden around the world that you collect for housing items, mounts, and other little fun items.
- Dimensions aka Rift's housing. Very fun and amazing the things people can put together. You can definitely spend a lot of time and platinum getting your dimensions just the way you like them.
- Chronicles are 2 man (or solo if geared) versions of most the raids. So those can be fun to do.
I'm sure I'm missing stuff that other people can add to the discussion. I always recommend Rift to people. The questing isn't the most exciting, but zone events and instant adventures can make it quicker and break up the monotony. It's also one of the better F2P games, so you aren't losing anything by trying it.

No one will play Rift for PvP. Its broken, and Trion has no interest in PvP.

If you do play this game, don't roll rogue. Unless you want to play bard support or tank as a riftstalker.
Rogue is the red-headed stepchild of RIFT when it comes to class development.
