No SWTOR, no TSW ( very unique) and no WoW? Even after the mad dash for beta keys it can't even make it in the top seven? Yeah real nice list you got there.

OP is going by the top rated MMO's via mmorpg.com user votes. The games that have the highest rating only got there because people hate them the least not like them the most.
EQ started the hell we see today with games that clone it. WoW being the biggest clone (thus why everyone calls everything WoW clones instead because they do not know EQ was the first to do the things WoW did).
Edit: I should add tab targeting into the bucket too. With so much variety of the same thing out there it gets harder and harder to see where it all began (EQ).

That one's 100% accurate. As an added opinion, it's a shitty WoW clone.
At launch - yes.
Today - no - Rift is a themepark (like WoW) but IMO it's much less of a WoW clone.
And IMO it's a much better game than WoW.
So WoW was awesome back in Vanilla - today it's shitty.
Rift was shitty at launch - today it's awesome.
The above is 100% my opinion.
I heard the expansion improved the game, though when I tried F2P again, the starting zones were all the same and I didn't have access to some of the souls that suited my usual playstyle. Hell, I'm still confused by the choose class screen on the "new" Rift. I just wish they'd provide some starting zone variety and explain things better at the start screen. Maybe a Rift player could recommend a site that helps you select a class because I remember being more lost in Rift than any other MMO in recent years before I even rolled a character.

Uncharted Waters Online has levels, quests, instanced dungeons, and multiple avatars. But it's nowhere near being a clone of any other online game, as the only good comparison is the old Uncharted Waters console games from about 20 years ago. Like the old console games that it expands upon, UWO is about as sandbox as it gets, and it isn't even primarily based around combat. You can have years worth of content while spending no more than 5% of your game time on combat-related activities--even defined broadly such that crafting or buying gear for combat and trying to find a group for combat count as combat-related activities.
So basically, your definition of an EverQuest clone is completely ridiculous. You might as well argue that most MMORPGs are Pong clones because they involve graphics.
Yeah.... not including the top most successful MMO discredits the OPs objectiveness. Ratings don't mean shit, every developed would give their left nut and sell their wife to a pimp to get even half the subs of WoW. WoW is thee top MMO out there, love or hate it, that's the truth.
You have to take sites like this with a grain of salt.....Who knows what is promised or what kind of kickbacks sites like this get in exchange for a favorable review/rating......THe number 2 game on the list is terrible..Its a stretch to even call it a MMO and its a niche game at best...It faired so poorly that it almost put Funcom out of business, but it remains 2nd here? cmon

Actually it's an EQ2 clone with WoW style crafting. Almost everything about Rift is a shadow of EQ2 from the 2 factions, the class roles, the housing, and some of the other systems. The gameplay systems are all EQ2 in style which isn't surprising because Hartsman led the helm at EQ2 during a couple of big xpacs. The crafting and AH are all WoW though unfortunately. The EQ2 broker is vastly superior to the overly simple AH.
That's my opinion at least.
The OP really doesn't know what they're talking about. EVE is multiplayer Elite like another poster stated and Darkfall is a UO knockoff.
Rift class system is directly from WoW, or at least WoW during the time period Rift launched. 3 tree talent system with rift's twist that you were able to choose from more than three trees.
Rift's combat is also directly from WoW
Rift's dungeon and raid style is also directly from WoW.
EQ2 is quite a bit different from both games in all of these.
Artifacts and housing are from EQ2, dimensions in particular started out as a blatant EQ2 housing with a Rift skin, but dreamweaver added a new twist
To be fair Rift has tried its own things, some good (Chronicles) some bad (Instant Adventures, I know some like them but they are just non stop mundane quests to me..kill 10 rats, pick 10 flowers, kill a named rat, rinse and repeat)
At launch it was a WoW clone (one of only a few games that could be called that) but its different enough now.

If you should talk about clone everyone mmo is clone for Ultima Online which was release in 24 September 1997 by Origin Systems and EverQuest was release in 16 March 1999 so get fact right before you start post thing you don't know anything about and how can levels, quest, instanced dungeons and multilpe avatars be clone NEWS FLASH without those component how can you make mmorpg at all btw should really draw hardline about clone 1st every game use levels, quest, instanced dungeons and multilpe avatars was a computer games callDeath Knights of Krynn, Champions of Krynn and The Dark Queen of Krynn all 3 was made Strategic Simulations, Inc in 1990, 1991 and 1992 with license from TSR, Inc. so basically all mmorpg is clones from TSR, Inc.

I have lived for world of warcraft for many years but I gotta say that Rift is the better of the two games, I could call Rift a wow clone in the same way that a BMW is a FORD clone, don't know about you guys but I'd rather have a BMW.
Don't play any of these two games anymore but I always felt that Rift should have been bigger since I feel that they stole the most parts from WOW but made them better and this doesn't happend alot.

I learned some interesting stuff today.
I learned WOW isn't one of the current top 7 MMOs and Age of Wushu is an everquest clone.
EQ didnt invent any of those
This sums up the ratings here quite well.

EQ is a UO clone.
There is no debate on this.

1. Guild Wars 2 - Cathode Ray Tube Amusement Device Clone
2. The Secret World - Cathode Ray Tube Amusement Device Clone
3. Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn - Cathode Ray Tube Amusement Device Clone
4. Rift - Cathode Ray Tube Amusement Device Clone
5. Darkfall: Unholy Wars - Cathode Ray Tube Amusement Device Clone
6. WildStar - Cathode Ray Tube Amusement Device Clone
7. EVE Online - Cathode Ray Tube Amusement Device Clone
Finally we have two unique games in the top 7! Did hell just freeze over?
I just can't believe how un-original all of these games are. This makes me sick.
Top 7 according to what criteria?
Wondering whos clone you are.
hmm I really liked these investigation missions, covert missions and cinematic mystery stories in EQ
oh wait
There is no such thing as an EQ clone
I wish there was.

None of those games are EQ clones, the only game that was a bit like EQ at times was Vanguard, other than that no game is like EQ afaik.
Some of these games in the list are a bit like WoW maybe, EQ didn't rely on questing.
