Haven't Played Since Relaunch - Few Questions

I initially tried the game out when it relaunched last summer.  Was a pretty solid game but I had a few problems with it and got bored so I canceled my subscription.

I'm just now trying to dig through information on the changes made over the past year after getting tired of WildStar.

So, in no particular order:

1. Leveling methods beyond FATES zerging?  I got pretty bored initially leveling alternate classes/jobs when out of quests by zerging FATES for hours.  Dungeons were fun but do not want to spend every waking hour leveling in dungeons.  Have they added other methods to advance your alternate classes/jobs?

2. It looks like housing has been implemented into the game (which is awesome) but it looks pretty pricey.  Can individuals own their own houses and how does the housing system work?  Is it a detailed fun addition to the game or is it more of a tacked on feature?

3. Money gain?  It was pretty tough to make Gil initially and was wondering how the economy and money making has advanced in the past year.  Especially if housing is that pricey.

4. Amount of content?  Different kinds of content?  How is the content these days?  Is there a good deal of things to do of all sorts of gameplay styles?

I think those are the main things I'm looking into.  Just trying to run down a down and dirty rundown on what's been added/changed, etc. with the game over this past year.

Thanks!

1 - use leves and the like. Purposely skip low level content like side quests. I over level in the beginning so I am 5 levels above content. There is a method to doing it, but you have to figure it out.

2 - IDK yet dude. I heard it was expensive, BUT, you can purchase a room for 300,000 gil.

3 - Gil gain has been normal so far. No change really but, other added features bring more gil making.

4 - The amount of content and how diverse is increadable. Hunts, Chocobo raising, New Dungeons, New Main Story, New side quests, etc. A whole shit load has been added dude. Oh Frontlines PvP as well.

I've discovered that even though the game has new content, the end game community does have toxicity to it that sort of kills the enjoyment.  It's not MOBA levels of bad, but it's there and likely brought on by the difficulty of some of the end-game content.  Money gain is fairly easy as a paladin or warrior thanks to duty finder, and there is enough content to keep someone occupied for at least some period of time, otherwise.
  • Yeah, the community when I first played was pretty toxic, for sure.  Was hoping that had died down some.

It's probably not going to go away since it's more of a game design problem than anything.  They built the end game to be fairly difficult and then threw in the Duty Finder anonymity into it.   The people who are getting the most out of this game are the ones who went into crafting and diversified their activities beyond pure fighting and gear grind.

    I'll be happy to answer any questions you might have about the game. In your order;

    A) The answer is yes, when you played you had the usual FATES and leves you could do, well now in the game they have the challenge log. This is a system in place that has a set of goals to achieve for the week, there are dungeons, quests, leves, pvp etc. Full-filling these challenges presents you with a massive experience reward. For example one of them might be "do five dungeons" completion of which will net a massive boost to your level. It REALLY helps.

In addition to this I believe they have amended guildhests so the first time bonus applies to each job.

    2. It looks like housing has been implemented into the game (which is awesome) but it looks pretty pricey.  Can individuals own their own houses and how does the housing system work?  Is it a detailed fun addition to the game or is it more of a tacked on feature?

    A) Presently the only way to get a house is through FC housing. You can now buy a room in a FC but it is pretty pricey, not so pricey if your dutiful in managing you money but some people who don't will find it too steep a price. Consider this however the next step towards player housing.

Housing is fun, its a cash and time sink but its just as easy as house management tools found in Wildstar and RIFT and easier to use than Neverwinter Foundry.

    3. Money gain?  It was pretty tough to make Gil initially and was wondering how the economy and money making has advanced in the past year.  Especially if housing is that pricey.

    A) Gil is easier to come by, but you have to be proactive. By this I mean actually selling items on the Auction house. This is main source of revenue. Dungeons and questing nets good gil, but nothing compared to selling crafted wares. The market is in a good place and I have never struggled to make an income. Consider this, I have 2 retainers, this morning I picked up 560k gil off them.

    4. Amount of content?  Different kinds of content?  How is the content these days?  Is there a good deal of things to do of all sorts of gameplay styles?

    A) Dear god yes. We are on 2.3 presently and I would ask you to update yourself with the content. You will be most pleased.

1st . Leveling , these what you can do , Fates,Leves (more exp then use to get),Guild heist, dungeons (they increased exp 3* multiplier and storage exp works still) ,hunter logs, challenge logs, quests(limited one time), Free company bonuse exp II, Old fashion open world exp increased EXP solo with food(chocobo companion still nerfs as 2+ members), Daily roullette EXP, Beastman daily EXP (lv44+).

2nd. Housing is all Free company related right now. Depends on sever , You need 4 people and 4m+ gil, So need join a Free company and then for 300k gil get a private room that you can add furniture up to 50 items and change floor and add walls and rooms. Size is same as FFXI moogle room. but got limited at 50 items and can open room to anyone in FC and if Free company allows guest they can view your room.

3rd. Gil is way easier to get. The main story plow through it ,  is around 300k if do not take the gear . Why would you when can you get gear other means , but if need little gear npc's sell enough cheap.  Tank jobs is a main job in need and if you do duty rouletts get a lot of bonuse gil just doing the guild heist or quest that in need  in under 5 min q's, If join in progress, Plus challenge log and beast daily give gil bonuses. Dungeons give out a lot more gil also normal.

4th. Content is massive, So far , but main things are thats added is PVP frontline 72 people, crystal tower and syrcus tower 24 people , Coil of bemoth 1-9 , 8 man, Unique hardmodes not the same as the normal modes different bosses  and map different,  Hunts are popular, but little to popular, Primals are now at 6 them now, in hard mode and extreme modes, Got a super elite coil just for a title. Crafting jobs when get elite can make some insane gear for glamour and some i95 weapons for the market board. Then a lot of new quality of life issues, hud,UI and Ect.  That to many to list.

My main concern is , is the system requirements still outrageous and do you still need an alien powered supercomputer to run the game like you did originally or can you now run it halfway decent with an older machine?

Depends on your definition of older.  I think it'll run on 5 year old systems, but it won't run at max settings or anything.

You can run it on a older computer without many problems. If your computer has comparable specs to a PS3 system you are fine, will have frame rate drops in high populated areas and cannot set the game on high.

If your pc was made in the Windows XP era you might have an issue though. Laptops make sure your graphics card can handle it, since alot of laptops even new ones are not designed to run graphically intensive programs.

I suggest checking out the official benchmark: http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/benchmark/

Just remember just because your computer can run it, it might not run it well.

PC power is not the issue in XIV though, it is latency with certain providers. Depending on where you are combined with what service provider you use. You might have to use a 3rd party tunneling program like WTFast, Battleping, Pingzapper. With the dodge or die mechanics the devs like to add to fights... it might be impossible without these programs. Again this is player by player. some people have no issues some have major issues from the same geographical region.
