SoE Loses Domain Temporarily?

alyndalealyndale Member UncommonPosts: 936

Hello everyone,

I'm not too sure what exactly has happened at SoE, but apparently they temporarily lost their domain. This of course meant that ALL content be it forums, websites and games were down as well. I haven't ever heard of this happening before. Anyone else out there ever experience a gaming company sort of go "poof" for a portion of the business day and no access?

http://eq2wire.com/

This is the article I saw about 30 minutes ago...

I am concerned that somehow, their man/woman in charge of such matters had let that slide. I assume it was some sort of payment to the domain site, however, not completely sure.

SoE Live is about a month out now, and there are many, many questions yet to be answered about when Landmark will be released and the developmental update for EQ Next. I have been a bit worried before this event as to what might be shared with the population about EQ Next. After this fluff, well I am now wondering what is going on out in San Diego.

Any updates for you all that know about this is greatly appreciated. As of this post I'm still unable to access Landmark or EQ 2. I can not get into website or official forums.

Strange days indeed...

I guess it just goes to show how "human" we all are. I think I wouldn't want to be in that webmaster's shoes right now...sheesh!

Smed said that it was due to a typo that their domains didn't auto-renew as they should.

Nothing sinister, just an ID:10T error :)

They'll get it fixed, not a big deal. It can happen to anyone, no need to overthink it. Websites get hacked all the time. And yes Google has had downtimes before.

Not sure what is just going on, but they have been having problems with all of their web sites and game login links.  Sites like Landmark forum was up for about 10 minutes a few hours ago and they had posted that they are having problems with the connections and everything they have both game and forums will be up and down for about the next 48 hours as they try to fix it.

There is also a post about it from SOE over at twitter Landmark game site.   Looks like one of the twitter feed sites is the best way to stay on top of things right now for info.

They were hacked!  They need to use an authenticator... mhmm.

Yep, they'll get it back up and I sure hope it's an isolated error and one that can be taken care of and not rear its' ugly again!

It happens.  I think Microsoft has forgotten to renew a few of their domains several times.  That kind of thing is bound to happen when your company operates and maintains a dozen or more domains.

Happens even if a company isn't that big too... Turbine (DDO) forgot to renew their domain too about 1 year ago if I recall right, surely makes a company look downright incompetent  if you ask me.

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.
