i really only played during the first month or so the game launched i was very dissapointed that i couldnt be a minion master necromancer like in gw 1 . im wondering if anything has changed for necros or if any other class really feelsl ike a pet class these days .

You can have a necromancer that focuses on minions, but you have limited direct control over your minions compared to some other games but you certainly get a fair few of them to follow you about.
If you are considering a return to the game, make sure you log in sometime in the next two weeks to get the living world story added to your account for free.

ok ill log in tonight for a lil but i want to make all new charecters so any suggestions server wise i dont want a dead server
There are no dead servers any more since the megaserver went live, you all end up on the one server when you zone into a new zone.
So server choice only really effects your WvW choice. Tarnished Coast / Jade Quarry / Blackgate are the top 3 WvW servers (population and coverage wise). You may not be able to get on to them though as they are very full. Tarnished Coast is also the unofficial RP server as well.

What region are you from? (NA, EU)
Do you care for WvW?
Do you care for RP?
P.S: Guild Wars 2 now has fully deployed megaserver. That means that multiple servers play in 1 map. So its quite lively if you are into PvE-only.
Not entirely true but just mostly. There are some guilds that require you to be of a certain server. I currently am in a RP guild cuz my wvw guild kicked me out because of inactivity on the battlefield, among other things, and yeah they recruit only people from my server. It's kind of a guild rule. I can only assume there are plenty more.
Well unless you have a specific guild in mind, geberal rule is more populated serevr = better (not true in my case)
In EU gw2community organizese raiding, and in US i believe its TTS guild (and its open guild(s) afaik) and they dont require specific servers, just TS and not to screw around.
Pretty much any class can solo Champs. Some are just a bit easier than others.
When the game came out I went from level 1 to 80 just with minions.
You can have 6 minions by your side at all times - I think that is enough.
I would say no, but minions AI is poor and offer very little survial.
but check this condi necro for an idea:

Waiting for your solo vid
now: GW2 (11 80s).
Dark Souls 2.
future: Mount&Blade 2 BannerLord.
"Bro, do your even fractal?"
Recommends: Guild Wars 2, Dark Souls, Mount&Blade: Warband, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.
Deathshroud is a great tanking skill and if you buff it and life blast you can deal quite a bit of damage. Consume conditions is an awesome healing skill.

Not necromancer specifically but one really good general change is now players can respec their traits for free anywhere, anytime out of combat.
I'd played on and off prior to that but never really clicked with it. Being stuck in one spec like that (having to visit a trainer and pay to change) was a downer.
I find it more interesting and varied now.
today, i actually updated the game for the 1st time since i stopped playing like 1 year + ?
i stopped after 5 months into the game, and due to the fact that many people start talking about the new season and how good it was, i decided to update the game and tries to login and see what have changed,
4 hours played, and nope, i regretted updating the client, yes the world and all are refreshing to see again after a year, but then i was still in my Guild, and only 2 people that i dont even know was Online, so i tried to ask around and chat, still the same anti social game it was back in 2013.
So What Now?
I started playing again recently.
I have rolled a new character but have to play in very small doses or I quickly become bored.
I have said this before, but all the trivial distractions (the jump puzzles, achievements and vistas) are not an adequate substitute for a deep and immersive open world to play in.
I am also finding the game incredibly anti-social even by the standards of modern mmos despite (or perhaps because of) the instant grouping and assisted kills.
I will keep going with it for a while longer but I never realistically see myself playing this game for any length of time.
So people expect to go out for a year and then come back for a day and everyone throws a party?
Go ahead and miss a year of a heavy raid MMORPG and then hope to join in your old raid guild and tell me how successful you were.

Playing both this and WoW, and having fun in both games... As they are very different from eachother.
same problem tough as at release, cant really choose a class as they are all extremely fun but none of them is perfect...
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
try elementalist, most fun imho.
Currently leaning towards elementalist, engineer and thief...
engineer and elementalist for the diversity
thief for the wonderfull initiativ mechanic

Death Shroud Power Necro, Glass Cannon Scepter/torch+GS Guardian and Super Tank Guardian (if playing with friends, otherwise too slow to kill mobs) are quite interesting as well.
