I just ordered the game since I was told with the game you get a free 30 days. I saw it on sale for 14.99 so figured at .50 cents a day it is worth it to try. Now I know absolutely no one who plays this game so am wondering if I can get some pre login information. This is being delivered to me so I have a few days to gather some information before I jump right in with activation.
1) Which server should I use? If they have PvP based servers I have a non PvP server request please.
2) If I usually play healer/support what is the best to play that will satisfy my support abilities?
3) I love crafting. Which is the most useful crafting skill to be utilizing? What should I focus on and what level does crafting get started at?
4) Please provide any other hints/tips/good to knows I may not have thought of asking about.
Thanks in advance.

Only one advice if you want to enjoy the game and get end game dailies/weeklies done without waiting a second in queue is start as tank so wither marauder/warrior or gladiator/paladin to have that class/job just for the endgame grind then you can level and gear up your favorite role/job/class.
edit: dps usually waits 30min+ for any given dungeon or boss fight where tanks have instant queue.
edit2: I'm in Hyperion server in game name Eri On if you decide that server send /tell

My opinion
Any server is fine, all are very populated and labelled for which type of server they are. You wanna start off as a conjuror if you like the support classes. You can start building up crafting classes (Each craft is a whole class and you can learn them all on one character if you want) once you have your starting class at level 15.
Level 15 is key here. Thing can seem a bit slow with a lot of tutorials and currier quests up to level 15. Stick it out to 15, then the whole game opens up to you.

you can play this game entirely without doing combat if you want. the crafting are classes on their own so they give you the benefit of not being aggro'd in a high level zone. that being said you'll still want a battle class to gather materials. the game has more to do than combat which is excellent for someone who prefers to craft. the crafting it's self is more engaging than watching a progress bar slowly move across your screen.
i'd pick a high population server. last time i checked there was character creation restrictions on most servers during peak hours. i'm on excalibur, my friend recently joined and had to make a character at 6am. but the advantage is more buyers in the market for items. if i were you, i'd level my three gathering classes first. this is because you'll be more self sufficient whenever it comes to crafting. it's relaxing and progression wise fairly quick. you can switch jobs (thereby switching to gathering or crafting class) at level 10. you have to do your main job quests. one at level 1, the next one at level 5, then the last one at level 10. after you have completed those you can learn new classes and begin with your crafting adventure!
as for what class, conjurer becomes white mage at level 30. so that is your go to class for healing and support. you could pick scholar if you wanted to also. however i'd suggest conjurer for sure. the game is very well done and polished. contrary to what some people might say online it has a lot to do. don't get caught up into the dungeon/gear grinding aspect. there's plenty otherwise. if possible chose a legacy server (excalibur has a great population).
if i missed anything please let me know! ^_^ i'm here to help
1) Which server should I use? If they have PvP based servers I have a non PvP server request please.
There isn't any world pvp so all servers are the same.
2) If I usually play healer/support what is the best to play that will satisfy my support abilities?
In FFXIV your character can eventually pick up every class. For Healing you could roll conjurer or Arcanist, these will lead you to White Mage, Scholar, or Bard. To transform into a JOB Class you will need to be level 30 in one class and 15 in another, You might want to check out the lodestone to see what you'll prefer.
3) I love crafting. Which is the most useful crafting skill to be utilizing? What should I focus on and what level does crafting get started at?
Crafts are classes and if you want to be a master crafter you'll eventually need to level all of them. To start out I'd recommed something that benefits your battle class. IE if you choose conjurer you could take up weaving to make equipment as you level. Once you hit level 10 on your main class you'll be able to switch to other classes after doing the associated guild quest.
4) Please provide any other hints/tips/good to knows I may not have thought of asking about.
I'd recommend just jumping in and getting into the questing. After level 10 you have the freedom to pick any or all of the classes available.
1) just pick one that seems decently populated (pvp atm is pretty much non existant and it's limited to instanced action)
2) you can play all the roles on the same char so no need to worry about making the wrong choice
3) crafting is like classes you can have them all and they are separate class paths so to speak.. forgot what level you can learn them at but i think it's 10 or 15. just visit the trainer..
4) as i said earlier classes can all be learned on the same character(at level 30 they can turn into specializations. you basically combine 2 classes into a more powerfull one).. same goes for tradeskills
I had fun once, it was terrible.
it changes at higher levels.. they just seem to think you need extreme hand holding at early-mid levels.

Hiya! Glad you picked the game up! It is has been one of the most engaging MMO's I've tried recently. On to your questions!
1) You should go on the Leviathan server! It is one of the more populated servers (perhaps slightly less than Brynhildr) and I am on the server! (Austie Ciel)
2) There is 2 healing classes and 2 classes I would consider "support" albeit dps oriented.
The first healing job is the iconic Final Fantasy White Mage they are a throughput healer with a large emphasis on AoE healing, they are the ones who are going to blast those health bars back up when they dip low. All of their cooldowns are focused on increasing your healing, be it by making you cast faster, an increase to your raw throughput, or giving you more mana so you can continue healing!
The second healing job are the Scholars, deviating from the traditional scholar from previous Final Fantasy games. The Scholar is a shield based healing job focusing on proactive gameplay. I consider this a semi high risk and quite high reward class. If you can get shields on people before damage goes out then most fights will be smooth sailing; however, if you fall behind in heals it can be hard to recover, particularly in AoE situations. You get a fairy to help supplement your healing.
The fist support job is the bard, archers who go about Eorzea singing songs to empower their allies! Many who migrated over from FFXI were sad that bard hasn't near as many songs as it use to but I think many bards still can't make use of what they have been given. They have a speed song which helps travelers move about efficiently. Then there are the combat songs, one to recover each type of resource (Mana and TP) as well as one that increases the damage that foes take. They are also very mobile ranged dps with quite a balanced kit between aoe and single target damage. Don't leave home without your bard!
The second support job is the Summoner. The summoner shares its base class with the Scholar (Both sprouting from the Arcanist class and both having familiars to call upon). The summoner is a ranged dps with a focus on DoT's and status effects. They have a tank pet, a ranged dps pet focused on single target damage, and a melee pet focused on AoE damage. They can inflict slow, blind, heavy, disease, and stun! (Possibly more that I can't think of the top of my head) So their support comes from their ability to hinder their enemies.
3) I have not done much crafting myself but I do know it is not uncommon for people to do ONLY crafting. I hear it is a blast and people really get in to it. If I had to level one it would be weaver because their signature armor is SO CUTE.
4) I think the enjoyment of every MMO is immersion. Stop and look at the night sky. Read the dialogue, there are so many clever puns and jokes that you may miss otherwise. Find a friend or a group of friends to play with. FFXIV is about the experience, take everything in! And hands down the music in the game is the best.
Hope this helps you! Good luck in Eorzea! If you do decide to roll a toon on Leviathan make sure you add me to your friends list! Austie Ciel is my name!
As a previous poster has said, the two healers are Scholar and White Mage. A very basic description of the two would be to say that the White Mage (WHM) is a reactive healer. They do have a regen skill you can apply to the tank before going into battle, but it's not much and can sometimes be an aggro magnet.
The main focus is reactive healing, single or aoe, on damaged players.
The Scholar (SCH) is more of a proactive healer, getting the buffs/heals ticking away on group members. It's also a bit more mana friendly if the group is taking it's time in getting through the content. This class also includes a pet as a healing companion. As such, there's probably a bit more variety involved when playing this.
The SCH also has a kind of alter-ego, the Summoner - a damage dealing role, again with a couple of different pets to aid you.
Both healing classes are great fun to play.
A quick word of advice: There are a variety of boss mechanics in the dungeons, also with individual boss monsters (Primals), and even in the shorter instances. Some of these kick in quite early on in the levelling path. So check on youtube for the relevant dungeon/boss guide before going in. There's plenty of these videos around and seeing the actual thing happening will help a lot.
