Last summer, we learned that Obsidian Entertainment had been retained to help develop Skyforge. Since the studio is strongly associated with standalone RPGs, this news was interesting and at least somewhat unexpected. Following E3, where parts of the game were playable and appeared to be favorably received, I had the chance to follow up with Development Director of Culturalization Eric DeMilt about his team's role on the project.

well that was mean.....explain.
Mail.ru doesn't have a super great reputation what with how they incorporate a virus in downloads around the internet that makes it so your homepage is changed to Mail.ru (a russian website btw), and it's all but impossible to change it unless you uninstall whatever browser you're using and redownload it.
Smile
Look how well they doing with allods even on eastern, they push for more cash shop then content, as become have to pay money to even keep up. And after so many years as it been out and there no free mount when starting off in there f2p.
People are going to get hooked in they will hold off the p2w when people set in then drop it on them, what they did with allods.
More American propaganda.
Sorry, it's not. I'm Russian, but I can't sympathise with mail.ru software practices.
I'm downloading a game. Why the FK it changes my homepage without my consent? Why the hell do I even have to go to some settings? Does World of Warcraft meddle with your homepage when you install it? Does Rift? Does SWTOR? Nope!
Unfortunately, with russian software this bullshit practice was going on for ages, even since the days of pirated copies sold en masse in the shops, where Fargus and 7-Wolf always had their launchers hijack your homepage. Yeah, you had an option to check it off, but it came back in so many ways you often still would get your homepage changed.
PS: Not to mention Mail.ru 's ridiculous practices, both business and in terms of how they handle their games. P2W is a very misused and overused, but they deserve the whole negative meaning of it stuck to their products, because that's what they do. Their games are P2W to the extreme. They wrecked games in order to squeese more cash out of players. No respect goes to them at all.
Could not have said it better. Tying the game to mail.ru dooms it.
i dont know how good or bad mail.ru is but i have never experienced what these guys are claiming about a virus and homepage and whatever after using mail.ru game related services. Including ArchAge Russia and the Mail.ru launcher. Maybe it happened many years ago? i dont know, but recently isnt happening.
EDIT: as for Skygorge, im looking forward to play it although i am getting tired of every game leading me to become a badass hero....
I'm no hater, I'm all in for Skyforge to succeed and be a good game. However, there's no hope mail.ru will not misbehave as it always does.
Because when talking about hating some company's practices, there's usually a reaason why they do it: IT WORKS!
There are many bad practices out there, way more than we even know of, and they all are usually leading to the business shutting down because of the competition. Look @ the worst Greenlight pages - misspelled, awful trailers, stupid screenshots... those are all bad practices we don't discuss because they're irrelevant.
However, when we discuss someone like mail.ru or EA who employ bad practices, that's because unfortunately, they work! They let them get away with quite a profit. And therefore, there's no reason for those companies to back off and stop employing bad practices! Why should they? This is what keeps the money flowing in!
That's why there's little hope mail.ru won't screw up this game.
