What are the Reprecussions of the ArcheAge Cash Shop?

gessekai332gessekai332 Member UncommonPosts: 861

Since the last thread regarding AA's cash shop was closed because people started going off topic and flaming each other, I would like to make a thread where we compile/discuss in a civil manner the details about the cash shop and the reprecussions it may have down the road. For many people, the presence of or the depth of the cash shop's influence in the game mechanics will heavily affect their decisision to invest in the product. Discussion of this topic is extremely important because it is a game that many of us have waited several years for and there WILL be people, including myself who will be willing to accept the cash shop depending on the exactly how it is implemented.

To  better direct this discussion I would like to present a few questions:

1) What are the specific details of the cash shop?

2) What affect does this have on the speed at which a person is able to level? or the ability of a player to make money?

3) Does the cash shop give a competitive edge to a player or is this strictly cosmetic?

4) How can the cash shop affect the in-game economy?

Most memorable games: AoC(Tryanny PvP), RIFT, GW, GW2, Ragnarok Online, Aion, FFXI, FFXIV, Secret World, League of Legends (Silver II rank)

If a person is trying to argue from the point of spending no money but being unable to compete with a paying player, arent they a bigger problem in the genre than the p2w argument they're trying to make?

    5) Who the fuck cares? No really, who cares? The people invested in the game know the ins and outs already and the others are just fishing for talking points to support their premeditated but often purely emotional opinion - which is kinda moot.

Who needs a third party forum thread to save on research of this kind shouldn't spend money on games but on education.

Sure, spend a few hundred $ in the Cash Shop and hit level cap in 5 days instead of 10 !

If you're worried about what will happen in the first month or two after launch, or who'll get X in week 1 as opposed to week 2, then AA is not for you. There is no significant developer-created endgame (themepark content) as far as I can see, it's mostly PVP and territory control at guild-level. If that doesn't float your boat, best look elsewhere...

    1. This is still changing so this thread is better discussed on the main site if it is to influence the outcome.  The only influence on gameplay is being able to own a plot of land, the amount of labor points one can earn over time and have total.

    2.

    a. That would depend on how easy it is to level.  Taking time out to harvest and craft would slow down the leveling of classes.

    b. More LP means more crafting which means more money overall.  Still sacrificing time that a player could get mob drops but I'll assume gathering and crafting could profit more.

    3. Competitive advantage.  It's worth noting that the sub option give a much larger advantage.

    4. More goods for the market so the price therein should be lower.  This should be advantageous to free players that, as mentioned above, wont have as much money.

The repercussions are more options to players.  Free players will have the ability to craft more for themselves or to make more coin.  The specific details on the LP potions (let's be honest that's what this thread is about) is due to change from what I know.  Best to wait and see or go to the official forums if it's that concerning.

cash shops are fine for fluff items, but don't base a games entire economy on a resource like labor the sell it in the cash shop.

    I miss DAoC
