Umm, unless something on the level of divine intervention happened to boost MxO's active player counts I wouldn't bank on that one. ::::06::

I have to agree with Morat20.

The game is useless without LucasArts involvement.  All the artwork, models, characters, and music are theirs technically.  Any other game company would simply not want SOE's junk, let alone if they can't even own it and put it to use without LucasArts coming on board.

I also agree that SOE would not shed a tear to see it go.  It may be useful to them, but I'm thinking they can do almost as well without it.  If anything, it will help them cut costs, at a time when they need to free up as much manpower and capital as they can.

That being said, I think the number one customer for SWG is, ironically, LucasArts.  In fact, LucasArts may be the only realistic buyer for SWG, and therefore, can pretty much get the thing for a steal.

This means LucasArts will be in the possession of a fully operational MMO, without even having to develop and code it first.  Quite a head start in getting into the MMO business.

If nothing else, LucasArts will take it back to its studio, and decompile its code to see what makes an MMO tick.  They'll develop their own MMO out of whole cloth from what they learn.

But I think they can do more than that.  In the best case scenario, they may "re-release" SWG after a thorough quality control process, and refinement.  A "third CU," one might say, and one that builds upon the things they think might work from all three systems.

I think the fans in this game are quite forgiving, and will gladly sign up in an SWG "under new management."  Because after all, its back home where it always should have been in the first place.

Another option is they may use the artwork, models, and music; but make an entirely new game in a new timeline.  My guess is the time of the Old Republic, during the prequal series.

One thing is certain though.  If LucasArts does grab SWG, its going to make some changes.  Its difficult to say where they will take it, but I'm not entirely sure they will keep on this "Iconic Starwarsy" model of fast action FPS.  Its easy to experiment with other people's money, and reputation.  Its harder when its your own that is on the line.  But even more importantly than that, this is Star Wars, at LucasArts, which means its no ordinary game.  They will look at this as a "sacred mission" of sorts, to do it justice.

Well considering what is going on with the game and the "survey" that is supposedly being sent out asking which combat system people prefer I would say that quite possibly a return to the old game is in the works.  Also the push back of Publish 27 also kinda gets me thinking this too.  Why else would SOE do it?  They have not cared before about publishes being "rushed" so why start now?  I think something is up.  I have cancelled my account so I  can sit back for a little and see what is going to happen before deciding if I want to go back to the game.  Also there are no major fixes that have been changed since SOE announced the "announcement" that was going to come at the end of january.  I think it might be the truth to the rumor that they are losing the license and they "delayed" Publish 27 because they did not want to waste the money on something they weren't even going to have anymore.  I think this all seems likely but only time will tell.

Which survey do you refer to?  I've only seen one asking for the camera point of view.

SOE knows what you like... You don't!
And don't forget... I am forcing you to read this!

Idk I got on the forums today just to look and see what is going on before I decide whether or not to give anymore money to SOE and I saw something about a survey people are getting about what combat system they like the best and several other questions.  I do not know the ful details but apparantly it was sent to people who have Trials of Obi-Wan but I have this and I never got the survey so I don't know. That is all I know so far.

I hope that survey is going out to ex-players as well, or it would be mucho skewed.

99% of the vets who stayed would want the old game... and 100% of the vets who left would want the old game. But if they only ask current players, you'll get WAY too many "nge" responses.

Another question would be.. Is the survey from $OE or LA?

Here is my thought about the LA survey.

I'm thinking the intent behind it is to do a few things:

    1)  So they can gather evidence to persuade SOE to make changes contrary to SOE's vision.

    2)  To gather evidence to see if SOE was maintaining the game in a fair way, or sabotaging it.

    3)  To gather some data to "trade" for Shanks, and Joffe's server logs.

The reason LA is doing these surveys, and SOE is not, is because SOE has something better than surveys.  It has the server logs.  The same data that they use for the astromech stats.  That stuff is better than any survey or focus group possibly could be, because it records the actual truth of what is going on there, not any samples of opinions of what is going on there.

I don't think they are sharing this info with LA.  If they were, LA would have no need for polling, focus groups, and surveys.  I'm thinking LA might be naive enough to think this data is useful for SOE to know, and might want to work out a "deal" to get the sever logs, maybe with a line like, "we know something you don't."  However, if I were Adam Joffe and Russell Shanks, I'd give these LA surveys a polite chuckle and say something like, "no my friend, we already know everything your crap data says, without ever seeing it, and plenty of things your research cannot possibly tell us."
