As far as the next-gen consoles go, pretty much the only thing they have over the older generation when it comes down to it is the ability to antialias and perform better graphically. Graphics are what take the vast majority of that horsepower and you get a decent amount of it for the price point.

You won't see any kind of revolution in gaming that the older generation console is incapable of doing.

Agreed, but we aren't seeing much more innovation in PC gaming either. I love playing games on both (blasphemy I know), but some games are just better when relaxing on my couch looking at the big screen.

For me the big downside of consoles is the close endedness of them along with the "exclusives" bullshit. Too bad you can't slap a game from a PC, Xbox, Wii, PS4 or Steambox and slap it into another system and base your purchase decision on performance and system design alone.

Same here. Controller just doesn't feel good when playing a FPS. Not to mention the 30FPS will kill it for me.

So here's to hoping we get a PC version eventually.

In any case, as long as these games are still designed for last gen consoles your not going to see anything "next gen". I've decided not to buy any game that's also being designed for the 360 and PS3 as I know the games won't be as good as they should have been.

If I were you I'd just go ahead and sell it. I don't know what your idea of next gen is, but we're not going to see anything that we haven't seen before. Bigger and better maybe, for consoles at least, but still nothing amazing or revolutionary. If your not the type of person who just enjoys playing games on a console then there's no point in owning one.

As for Destiny, it left a huge feeling of "meh" in me. Borderlands is a pretty fair comparison. It's nice that you can customize your character and collect better armor, but when it comes down to gameplay I'd rather just play Borderlands.

i knew what i was getting. I knew i was getting a new console that is powerful enough to handle superior features. Your assumption is wrong. I have my gaming PC for those extra pixels. But many companies seem to be treating the new consoles just like you said, some kind of super computer to for $400 to show off some cool graphics. I dont really care about Console graphics because i know the games will look good on a newer machine, but making a new console that is superior to its previous version doesnt mean its only have to look prettier... Games are supossed to run better (nope.... 30fps for you too), they are supossed to have new and/or improved features (nope, same old generation crap for you too). So why make a more advanced console if devs still have the old gen in mind?

I personally am enjoying some parts of Destiny more than Borderlands. I played both Borderland games and couldnt finish either one. But i do agree with many people that the repetitive missions in Destiny are meh. Dedicated console players might not care much, but us multi platform players that know how meh mmos are with the same boring repetitive content arent going to be very pleased if thats all we are going to get.

I've been playing on the PS4  all of alpha all of beta and I totally disagree with the OP.

There is a lot more depth to Destiny than most people are giving it credit.

To compare Destiny to Borderlands just makes me irate, there is very little comparison there.

I play a lot of games, pretty much every game. I get very bored, very distracted, very easy.

Even now I am in Alpha testing on 3 games, CB testing on 4, and playing wildstar, swtor, gw2, firefall, and defiance.

Oh and on the ps4 playing, FFXIV and warframe.

Destiny holds my attention, which is saying a lot considering some of the amazing games I am in testing for right now.

Even knowing I will not be keeping my progress from beta, Destiny still pulls me to push the limits of the beta.

People who know me on here know I am overly critical of almost every game.

I spend a lot of time banned here because I am emotional, political, cynical, and an all around asshole.

I do not lemming, I do not hype a game that does not deserve it even it it means calling everyone else out as an idiot, lemming, and liar.

This time Destiny deserves the hype. For me Destiny gets 4 out of 5 stars, and for me that makes the game a must have.

I also suggest using the destiny companion app even if you have to install it to your pc with bluestacks.

Honestly if you think just because the Xbox One is 100 cheaper and without the kinect (which sucked 10% more GPU power) that makes the system better than or even equal to a PS4 you sir are the one thats the pony. Just saying the facts are out there. Developers including Bungie have stated its hard to get 60fps on a Xbone at 1080p and most have to "compromise". Thats sad...

So, what's wrong with the Borderlands comparison? It makes you irate, but you don't explain why. Why does Destiny deserve the hype? What about it is so amazing and great? The instanced, small map, PvP? The well written, but ultimately pointless story? The random encounters that we MMO players have seen done over and over? The hub world design? What makes this game special? Don't sit here on MMORPG.com and try and pretend that this game is something we haven't seen before. There's nothing special about it. It may be exciting and new to hardcore console players, but it has a pointless shared world mutliplayer and is a pretty piss poor "MMO".

Too bad.. they never said it was an mmo.. and by your standards.. I'm pretty sure every mmo sucks.

Destiny is not even close to being as good as Halo. The game does not have a soul. Master Chief, Cortana, The Covenent and The Flood? This just cant compare. Yes, I am playing the PS4 beta and yes I have it preordered but its just a filler till Halo Collection launches in November and I wont even talk about Halo 5 Guardians because it would not even be fair.image

The more i played Destiny the more I can't wait to play Halo 5 and the Master Chief edition.  Destiny won't be bad but I really do not believe it will be anything special. I also kind of think that COD: Advanced Warfare story will be a lot better but that is just me.

Destiny is very good and I think it has the best controls that I have seen in a console fps in a long time but the story so far is not pulling me in. I am only a low level hunter so maybe it gets more immersive later.

  • ShauneepeakShauneepeak Member UncommonPosts: 424

Except the shooting controls are WAAAAAAAY more polished than in Borderlands also unlike Borderlands you don't get a rare gun every 5 freaking minutes so when you do get one you feel excited. It is also similar to Diablo or Path of Exile in the fact you have to decode your item to see if it is something you will even want making it even more difficult to get the "perfect" gun or piece of armour.

Not saying it is the best game ever just saying it is better than people have been saying we ALL have to remember this VERY important fact, the Alpha and Beta only include the VERY beginning of the game which is essentially the hand-holding tutorial period. We have only done missions on a single planet and only one area of that planet.

Destiny takes a lot from many games but in my opinion it doesn't really feel like any of them.

Biggest valid complaint though is the severe lacking of voice chat feature, clan features, and the ability to trade with other players all of these things need to be implemented very quickly or the game will very likely fall on its face, hype can only get a game so far.

Though honestly seeing as the Limited and Collector's edition is sold out on every platform in most countries and I assume there are already millions of preorders for the basic edition Activision might honestly make all of their money back on launch and Bungie might not even have to worry about having an amazing game, which worries me a bit.

But as of now we have only seen a tiny portion of a game, read an IGN or possibly Gamespot article that said the beta is only bout 8% of the final game we will see at launch. There are also two major expansions already planned. So the game does have lots of potential we just have to see if it makes use of it.

news flash you can put a keyboard and mouse on a ps3,xbox 360 ,ps4 and xbox one need to be usb though,i ahve a wirless keyboard and mouse.not that difficult.by the way  another clue a game system does NOT have the overhead of a pc.for example window7 or 8 you need 4 gb to just run the OS.most of your horse power is wasted running the os.it funny but true, the ps3 runs ffxiv fine, but you needs a good pc to run it.that is the advantage of a game system less garbage,no worries about viruses or malware.

There is a lot of go fetch and go kill quests in between the main story line just like any standard mmo. Flying from planet to planet is cinematic and really disappointing.  The public events they have is pretty much like Guild Wars 2 which is pretty disappointing.  Having only 3 professions at launch is disheartening. The story is pretty good but Bungie has always told good stories. I don't see the need for multiplayer because it just gets in the way of making this a good single player game. Still on the fence about cancelling my pre-order but I wouldn't personally go out and buy a special edition of this game. I'm not sure it will be worth it in the long haul.

except borderland is sp unless you want to form a group, and it is not an mmo and the graphics are far better, but yes they do use guns like borderlands.so i guess all games that use guns are like borderlands.okay.

Borderlands has way more weapon types as Destiny and Destiny seems to focus more on PvP no PvE Event in Beta but 2 PvP Events.

Destiny feels more like Mass Effect than Borderlands to me.

Borderlands has different art style (cell shading) and bombards you with million quests and gazillion guns. Destiny is nothing like it.

Played it on a mates ps4 and it just felt like defiance + halo to me. Dont get the hype at all.

So far I have picked up the following weapons, by level 6:

assault rifle, Scout rifle, Sniper rifle, hand cannon, rocket launcher, pulse rifle, and machine gun.

I have also found multiple play styles of each, example more range less damage and so on. Not sure if this is all we will see in the final game or not so can't comment on how many gun types we will see compared to Borderlands.

There are PVE events in beta, sorry friend but that is fact. I have been exploring on many occasions and there has been an alien landing event. Some pretty easy but some have needed a group of players to combat.

The two pvp arena's are ok at best. Snow area is a decent size at least and requires some kind of tactic. The other is way too small and just becomes a COD game, shoot around corners just in case someone's standing there.. or throw a grenade.

I dont talk about the mini Events in the free roam zone, google for Destiny Iron Banner Event this is what i mean or just klick here http://mp1st.com/2014/07/24/destiny-betas-iron-banner-pvp-event-returns-weekend-playstation-xbox/#.U9IuzigVUyE

And with the weapon in Borderland you have have bouncing bullets, explosive bullets, slow fireing fast fireing weapons you have weapon which explode after reload and so on never saw that in Destiny. Borderland has way more option in weapon as Destiny, maybe it is getting better.

Destiny Beta is now open to all platforms without a code key, so if you want to try Destiny you can.

It's got a really nice feel and atmosphere, but even if I can't be entirely sure - my gut instinct and experience with games both tell me it's shockingly low on content for such a high-profile title.

Unless, of course, they're unusually good at hiding the goodies.

watched some streams. game looks halo and borderland mix. nothing amazing or innovation. decent game for console players but not great in pc standars.

The game does look nice. You can't take that away from it but there needs to be more interest than just fancy art.
