I have been playing this game for a week. Pretty much non-stop. I cannot even begin to touch on my level of dissapointment. This is nothing but grind grind grind, and the travel based quests are long, arduous, and give the most petty rewards I have ever seen online. Worse of all is the skill system, where you are basically spamming the same attack, over and over again. The new skill based system of swg is one of the primary reasons I left after the NGE. There is nothing in this world like working for a solid week just so you can have two worthless attacks to spam instead of just one. Note: I was playing a spellcaster at this point, yet the melee classes were even worse given that the system runs the majority of your combat actions.

This may get better at higher levels, but I for one will not be online to find out.

Played (more than a month): SWG, Second Life, Tabula Rasa, Lineage 2, Everquest 2, EvE, MxO, Ryzom.

Tried: WoW, Shadowbane, Anarchy Online, Everquest, WWII Online, Planetside

    Beta: Lotro, Tabula Rasa, WAR.

Lvl 1-25 should be pretty easy because of the new things added with Chronicle 3(this is coming from a guy who spent 3-4 months getting from lvl 1-20 from Open Beta and in retail.... Ya I am horrible at lvling but was really fun). Actually, Chronicle 3 made it like 10 times easier lol to get from 1-25 plus after that party bonuses because I could get one of my chars to lvl 33 in one and a half months! This was with A LOT of time wasted in doing Seven Signs+PvPing/getting into alliance fights all the time lol.

Though, grouping at lower lvls will be a bit hard until probably at about lvl 15 which is when you should go to Gludin from starter village and there will be probably like 15-30 people there and it is easier to find a group there.

lol the only reason you were spamming 2 attacks is because you only played for a week. What do you expect.

the grind is what your gonna do most in lineage2, but they still else, doing quests hunting raidbosses with a good alliance, traning bots, lvling pets or having some pvp...
aldo lvling pets with low cash fundings is very time consuming and might not appeal to everyone.
then killing radibosses is also hard without a alliance since most players are afriad off dropping stuff dying from a raidboss, since some players wont return stuff that you can drop
pvp, is good but has exp losses, and fights are realy fair so the exp loss seems even dumber
tranining bots is bascily just to get some free stuff.
quests theys a lot and most off em are repetable, with okay rewards, some rewards are much better then others

in the end it might seem stupid why to play, but its a good game and im sticking cause off Clan Friend´s in the end i guess! if they was a better game i would move, but they isent

Lineage 2 is a hard game due to the grinding, so if you've come from everquest or wow you most likely wont like this game at all. But if youre used to the oriental style of MMOs you put up with it.

And yes, healers can usually always find a grind party ^^

    Good luck with it!

Well I left swg recently for the same reason. They went from 8-10 usable skills, with a great amount of variety, to 1 worthless skill being awarded every 8-16 levels. Worse, is the AI in this game is stupid, as well as the targetting system (cant....target...the..second....mob....chasing....me, eh might as well stand and take it (ie. die)).

I am still playing though, I paid for it after all...

Yes this game has grind! It is highly based of off grind! If you are looking for a story driven game through quests I will tell you right now not to play this game.

I play it yes. I do enjoy it because I don't make the grind a job. I get some clanmates togeather and go do it. I shop around. I run some of my favorite quests (I know some have asked how you can have a favorite quest in L2...but you can). I like the idea of gaining the power and levels. I play this game because I play different games for 100% Skill based...and not based off of levels...this game is based 90% on levels and 10% on strategy. Don't get me wrong, you will have a HUGE advantage compaired to somebody that has no strategy...but not if they are 15 levels higher than you.

The point to L2 for many people is to grind like crazy and then PvP a lot. Sure PvP is where this game is probally the most fun, but to get to high end pvp you must grind. Some people like grind...I usually don't mind it...it is quite relaxing. Some people HATE it. If you dislike grind a lot...you shouldn't play this game.

Oh, and BTW...clerics are very rare...and you WILL find a group! You also are almost guarenteed a clan when you get to lvl 35 or so!

This game actually doesn't have much content to keep someone alone occupied. What it does have is a lot of monsters, lands, castles, and people. The people shape this game, which you will soon learn esspecially when you get 40+. It is all about friends, enimies, factions, and whatnot! When you first start out the comunity does seem a bit sparse...but you will see that the higher level you get...the more people will be around.

Yeah, one week isn't enough to really say if the game is good or bad (IMHO) The task stink thats for sure. But levels 1-20 are your basic levels. You don't really get any skills and all you can use is No - grade items.

Once you hit 20 and get to your first "class transfer" your character will fill out much more. Then again at 40. This game has nothing do with pre-made content. Its all about the community and guilds. Forget the "World of Warcraft" style kill task (which is all WoW really has to offer) and get involved with the actual people on your server.

Your main obstical and the weakest aspect of L2 is the economy.

Torak does make a really good point.

Actually sometimes I think there is too many skills in this game...lol.

I have two hotbars full of skills...and sometimes I wish I just had one. But it took me a good hour or two to find the most efficient way to order my bars.

Yep probally the biggest drawback in L2 is the economy...and cheaters..

To make grind less, join a guild like others have said. When I joined back like last year(right after Chronicle 3), for some reason, it was VERY easy to join one of the major alliances even though I was like lvl 20 lol. I don't know how many different alliances would accept me at that level but was VERY helpful.

Seems like the Asian MMORPG's all involve a grind that most western people consider to much. Final Fantasy XI has a big grind in it as well.

What killed me on Lineage 2 was the money grind. It was bad enough to have to grind for level's, but after a month or so of killing greens mindlessly to make money for weapons, it was time for me to hang it up. I was so so so tempted in buying Adena off ebay. But I didnt because I hated the damn asian farmers so much in the game I refused to support them.

But there are alot of people who play the game still, and they dont seem to mind the grind. I had a hard time with it.

But it does seem like most of the people like me have already moved on, and when you go to the lineage 2 official forums, theres alot less bitching than there was when I played. So the hardcore are still there. I have to hand it to them, I cant imagine the sheer amount of grinding you would have to spend to get into the 70's in Lineage 2.

not sure if you played in C3, but its gotten a bit easier there, then theys also some good quests that gives nice cash.
But your not meant to have Top Grade as soon as you reaches a lvl for em, they come later, aldo the ecoenmy is hard, but if you look at main martirlz drops for weapon or armor crafting you can always see that the mobs are higher lvl then the lvl you get the grade mastery for it

and most players have moved to Fansite´s to post instead off they offical site i think they´s a lot more player´s now then they has ever been previsly, aldo im not counting in bots hehe ::::28::

Yep, LII is all about the grind. There really isn't much else to do, other than PvP.
I've played for some time now, have a couple characters up to 50 and 47... a Phantom Summoner and Blade Dancer, respectively. To me, the game feels more and more pointless.. aimless, endless grinding. The only thing that keeps me playing it at this point are the people I've met; I'm in a great clan with some awesome people.
To illustrate what I'm talking about... this is something that has actually happened a few times...
I log on to Vent to say hello to my clan-mates (who ever is online). They're off grinding somewhere, in their usual spot... ToI 8 (Tower of Insolence, 8th floor, for those of you who don't play LII :-), for example. I decide, "eh.. I feel like playing something else" and log on to, say, Guild Wars. Over the next several hours, I create a brand-new character, get their subclass, train some new skills, complete quests and so on.. By the time 6 hours has elapsed, I've completed all of pre-searing, have gained a bunch of skills, tried out different tactics/techniques by combining them, get all my pre-searing armor upgrades, etc... finished a bunch of quests and finally moved on to post-searing Ascalon. I feel like I've covered some ground, literally and figuratively. I've learned some stuff.. earned some stuff and had some fun along the way. I've been entertained and so it's time well-spent.
I pop out of GW and log back on to Ventrilo to see what's up in LII land... "Hello again. So what's everyone up to?" The same people I'd spoken to earlier answer, "Oh.. still grinding away up here on ToI 8th... 10% closer to leveling!"
True story, that. And that's the norm from what I've experienced.
People while away entire days just trying to get another 10-20% of a level above a certain point in LII. Now.. some people genuinely enjoy that and are perfectly happy grinding away all day. For me, though, no way... I feel like I've just wasted hours of my life and have hardly anything to show for it. I can't even say I'd really enjoyed myself.
The same could go for WoW , DAoC... and numerous other MMOs I've played. Even in FFXI where it's not uncommon to sit for hours waiting for a party invite, you can farm, craft, fish, do quests/missions, doing supply runs to unlock new outpost teleports, etc. You can be doing *something* that's beneficial to your character in some way other than grinding. In LII, grinding is really all there is to do... anything else is really just fluff... PvP'ing in the arenas.. etc.
In the end, it's about 90% people and 10% gameplay that keeps me in LII. If not for the awesome people I've met while playing it, I'd certainly have moved on long ago.

WSIMike I agree with you on many of your points.

To grind for 6-10 hours to only get 10-13% is ludicrous.

At lower levels it isn't so bad. Pre 40 is ok! Actually if level cap was lvl 50 in this game it wouldn't be so crazy. It has taken me about a year to get to level 50, and according to XP charts I am not even a quarter way to level 75 (level cap). Again it wouldn't be so bad if this game wasn't based 95% off of levels when it comes to PvP. I don't really care if my character reaches level cap, but after grinding forever I would like to see some PvP...and actually be able to do something in it...which isn't going to happen unless you are 60+.

I have seen people grind to lvl 60 within 6-7 months, but they either spend a lot of time on this game, or a lot of money!

I have probally logged about 1300+ hours of PLAYTIME, and am still only lvl 50 with no sight of my next grade in gear until lvl 60ish. Granted I just don't log in and GRIND GRIND GRIND GRIND... I shop, socialize, meet people, and once and a great while do arena PvP. But I will probally have 3000+ hours logged before I even get to lvl 65-70! Imagine what you can do with 3000+ hours...and with Lineage II you accomplish not too much...and hell...with any game you don't really accomplish much.

There is a lot more to this game than just Grind. The grind is handed to you though. If you want to become powerful and do meaningful PvP, then you have to GRIND.

C4 is bringing fishing...which I am not sure will feel like less of a grind or not. The truth is the level grind wouldn't be so bad if the money grind wasn't so bad.

Yes I still play this game. Yes I probally play it more than I should, and yes it probally does make me do less in RL then I could...and make me a have less of a social life. Sometime I HATE this game. I probally only enjoy 50% of the time I am logged in on it, and the other 50% I don't like it. The truth is though the only reason I play is because some of my RL friends play...but that is probally about it.

image Tell me ONE MMO that ISN'T a grind in one way or another!  I've played them ALL and they're all grind.  I mean, you login, you perfom a repetive task over and over to gain power and wealth and you log out.  Maybe MMO's aren't for you?

I enjoy L2, good things come in waiting and L2 is definately for people who are patient.  That helps weed out those "I need instant gratification" types anyway.  GO play WoW or EQ if you want instant-uber.

Yep Every MMO does have grind, some just takes longer than ever. Actually there isn't an MMO without grind, just some mask it with a quest and it is just FASTER. That is all!

L2 has a LONG grind and they don't mask it with ANYTHING....lol...so it is very noticable. You must mask it yourslef by keeping yourslef entertained with a good group of ingame friends.

Don't get me wrong I love L2...but it does have a LONG grind. If you do want instant gratification, stay FAR FAR FAR away from L2. If you like socializing more and doing some pvp, and being on your toes because of open PvP, also if you like pretty graphics and whatnot, L2 is for you...I know it is for me...for now anyway.

It's taken me about 7 months to get to 64 legitly, but i do probably play more often then most. Just have to find good people to play with, thats all. If you get the perfect group together, youd be surprised how fast you rake XP in (not talking about AOE partys, just AL and TOI Grinds).
