I hope the said problem with Wildstar make NCSoft to hurry with Lineage Eternal as well as keep it hardcore like Lineage 1 which still is successful. Don't dumb LE down to please westerners carebears.
Personaly I don't think that Wildstar is the biggest fail of 2014.
What fails atleast in my opinion are the complaints that often only share a very limited view of the game. Often it seem that the game is quest/raids/xp/lvl's. Every other feature is often not spoken of. So of course if people just play a limited part of a MMORPG they already set themselfs up to become bored or leave for their next hit.
I don't know what has happend to gamers these day's but topics like this aint helping this genre and if OP wanted to "save" Wildstar he would have been constructive with his topic....sorry!
Biggest fail? Not even close. Black Gold and Swordsman are both far, far worse than WildStar. WildStar is a good game, it just can't get over itself long enough to fix it's own issues, or at least that's the way it's played out so far. It's a gem of a game, the problem is there is two inches of dirt covering the gem up.
I think it's been mostly comparable to ESO after playing both at release. Maybe slightly less populated than ESO at this point, as most of the guild I was in had quit by the free month time was up. Honestly I don't know, but I think both ESO and WildStar sold well initially.
Currently Playing: ESO and FFXIV Have played: You name it If you mention rose tinted glasses, you better be referring to Mitch Hedberg.
Initially played GW2 and ESO prior to this, I'll have to say that I'm currently enjoying this game, no plans to return to the previous mentioned games, the experience for me now is refreshing! Not a fail for me!
How Wildstar will fair will depend entirely on the changes Carbine are prepared/ forced to make. It has been discussed many times that the excessive gating and exclusively 40-man endgame raids are an issue for many players. It will be interesting to see what the response is.
However, new mmo's are coming out all the time and players move on. I for one can't see myself returning simply because there is better combat out there (I am enjoying Firefalls combat a lot atm) in other games and the rest of the game feels ten years out of date.
I dunno, my server is pretty populated and the local Target is always sold out of the game.
We'll know if the game is failing though if NCSoft shuts it down, b/c they have no problem shutting down games that even lose the slightest bit of money.
Well it's the only mmorpg I've seen launch with a free trial, then have another free trail 6 weeks later. The official forums general section has threads on the front page with the last post from a week ago. People are also asking for server mergers.
I've never seen a mmorpg in this much trouble so soon. The Secret World was close directly following GW2's launch 2 months later. TSW saving grace was/is that it's the best written mmorpg the genre has seen. I'm sure what Wildstar's redeeming quality is, housing?
I think Wildstar would have been better received if it had launched f2p instead of trying to grab box sale money upfront. Box + sub + cash shop + cash to gold conversion, tends to rub people the wrong way.
I think we will see Wildstar drop the box price and go completely f2p/freemium within the next two to three months. At that point with an "effective" cash shop I can see Wildstar turning things around and maybe even competing with games like Tera and Swtor someday.
I seem to remember GW2 and SWTOR being equally empty a few months after release. What cracks me up is that people roll new characters two months after release and then say, "startin zones are empty the game is dead!". Yeah no kidding because unlike a lot of what is out there you actually have to play the game once you hit max level. You can't just hit max level and then say, "I'm done, time to roll an alt!".

Is 200,000 subs a failure or a success? How many subs is a success?
Box sell over millions at release
Keep 300,000 to 500,000 subs after 6 months for normal one
Must pass and keep more than 1000,000 if it AAA MMOGame .
If it F2P , have over hundred thousand player and keep the number.
For AAA P2P game turn F2P , must have over million.
Just my option .
It depends on may factors. Production costs, box sales and price, the anticipated payback period, the sub price, the cost of servers, staff, rent etc. It is a complex feasibility study that would be undertaken at conception of the game.
For one game 50,000 may be a success, and for the next 1m a failure.
Everyone on here posting that ESO is "well populated" forget one important thing... ESO has 1 super server which means that if the game has 100k subs they are all on the same server. Wildstar has like 10 NA servers and another 10 EU servers, so I am sure that there are more people on the one "mega" server.
P.S. - I am not saying that ESO only has 100k subs, just saying that there is only 1 server so yeah it is easier to appear very populated.
Companies produce games for the sole purpose of making money. If a game is turning a profit, it is succeeding at the only reason it was created. In essence, any profitable game is a success. How successful is subjective and will never have a clear answer, so for clarity's sake, lets stick with any game that makes more than it cost to create is a success.
hmm i'm no "expert" as most seem to claim here on these forums, but i did recently win a copy of wildstar from a tth giveaway. i've been playing about 3 weeks and the server i'm on atleast is heavily populated even with people in the noob zones, main city, and pretty much people everywhere. pvp ques are about 1 minute or less. perhaps other servers are not doing as well but it hardly feels dead where i'm playing.

SWTOR hold on more than 1 mill of subs after the 3 months mark. Then the population drop was huge, but just till the merge or the new server tech, after that the game didnt have populations problems never again. ESO did good for at lest 2 months, And still from level 1 to 50 the population is really good. The new Vet changes and updates will bring people back to the game.
Wildstar by the other hand is empty in less than a month after release and we are talking about an AAA MMO. Not a good sign. Tried the game once more time last week with a friend, even witht the trial, the game is just empty, never seen than before in an AAA MMO one month after release.
But the real problem here is NCsoft, we know what they do when a game is not profitable.

When does NCSoft publish it's quarterly report?
Saw somewhere that NCSoft was S Korea's #2 Internet company.

Rift cost somewhere around $50M to make, sold around 1M, ended up with 150-250k subs after a year, and Trion made a huge profit on the game.
I would believe wildstar cost as much as rift to make.
