^I agree with you. I've entered in every sweepstake contest they had and then when I scroll through the names I notice that there are multiple accounts (probably from the same person) that won. The only difference is that one letter is changed, rearranged, or deleted.

^^ Both posters above, guys / gals it's not worth griping over. Every where you go there is an agenda, or someone knows someone, just let it be, rise above it, it's only beta after all.

Yes it's only beta, but an attempt at fairness would be good. Yeah I get it, life isn't fair blah, blah.... but a little effort goes a long way. It wouldn't be hard, all accounts need to be 30 days or older to be eligible. With all previous winners need not apply (not sure if this is a standing rule now or not but it should be).

Maybe this time is my draw!

    good luck all..

Agreed that there should be some requirements to join such contests, join date or post count, preferably both.

I am going to reiterate what I have already mentioned in your previous give aways and to your guys on Twitter: Not putting some kind of "Account creation date" lockout was a massive spit in your loyal members' collective faces.  If not the majority, then a massive % of the previous winners were new accounts or someone's 3rd, 4th or 5th account and it's kind of bullshit.

I only play the game off and on but this was pretty much botched from the word go and only made slightly less so by doing the weekly give aways.  I hope more of you that actually play the game full time get rewarded this last time.

Yes, yes indeed. The contest should only include people that joined in 2002 or before.

How much keys were given out overall? 4000?
  • AdminAdmin Administrator RarePosts: 5,623

5000 keys were give to us by Blizzard.  We did two 500 key "handouts" that didn't go well given the massive demand.  We have completed three sweeps of 1000 keys and this last one is for 900.  We had to reserve 100 keys for customer service stuff.  At least 50 of these will be left over and we will probably let Mike, or CM do something in the forums to give out the remainder.

As for dupe accounts, etc.  We have done all we can.  We use IP filtering and other methods to detect dupe accounts or open proxies.    We also look over the list before it goes live (after the first one that had an obvious dupe).

We are not going to limit the event to "vet" accounts - that is a hard line to draw in the sand and we want to respect our legacy and new members alike.

Also note that we are the only site I know of that is showing you the users that won - I would be willing to bet that no other site is able to completely filter out all bots and bogus entries, etc.  We are doing our best I assure you.

    Good luck all!

You limit it to accounts created before the posting of the giveaway.

Guys, the truth is MMORPG.com is always looking for new users. Giveaways like this are part of that ongoing promotion to get new users. Making giveaways for existing accounts only completely ruins any chance of them gaining new users from a giveaway.

Now you can say "well these new people just sign up for a giveaway and that's it". That might be true but if even one person finds the site BECAUSE of the giveaway and then sticks around after it's worth it for them.

If you truly enjoy the site and the content it offers you would understand this and want them to increase their user base. I am on this site constantly and haven't gotten a key but I completely understand.

At least they aren't offering a paid "premium" membership and giving the keys only to those users like some other sites have done with giveaways...

LoL, I have never heard of Latham,NY till today, guess there are a lot of ppl there that like to go to this site =)

Filters are hard to do, I donno where "the great white north,On,Canada" is or  "?????. China", I also do not know how people from countries that can not use the keys win, but like i said, filters are hard to do, you think you have them all covered then new holes pop up.

I was just hoping a few of my friends won a key so i could play with them.
