I just saw this webcomic from Penny Arcade and I found it hilarious, but it also got me thinking...  http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2006/01/25

Do you think we have SOE plants here?  Are there in other forums?  I remembered the other day that I was looking at the EB Games customer reviews and I saw one that was really suspicious.  It basically said that all the people that complained about bugs probably don't have a system powerful enough to run this game"  image  WTF?!  LOL!!!   If that isn't a plant then I don't know what is!   Link: http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/editorial/reviews/reviews?page=2&pf_id=259862&intDeptTab=2

And before you go and call me names and say that it's a stupid idea, let me remind you that SOE is part of the same company that brought us such treasures as the XCP copyright protection software and the "graffiti campaign" for the PSP.  So is the idea really so far-fetched?  I wouldn't put it past them!

So, do you think we have them here?  Please refrain from mentioning names because I wouldn't this to turn into a personal flamefest and have the tread locked.

    I think as sites grow in popularity there is more of a chance of plants. They can't troll every forum out there so I think they pick the largest, most active and plant there. More bang for the buck so to speak.

    I honestly can't guage how popular mmorpg.com is so I'm not sure if there are plants here.

    When the bad press of the nge got people to go to sites and bash the new starter kit.. there were $OE employees there defending it. TH for one.

    From my own experience, it's a common practice. We do this at my company. However, we do so to present facts, not sway opinion.

    Wepps and I had a pretty heated argument on a thread some time ago.  He made some rude comments and got his posts deleted.  I didn't report him, but someone must have.  What he said wasn't that big of a deal though to earn him a ban, so I think he just decided to move on.

    Yep...there are plants.  They are right here on this board, on these forums and many other of the most popular gaming forums all over the internet.   When the heat gets to great because a game company does something stupid or a game needs attention because it is starting to slowly die, or a new game is due to release in the near future, that is when they are more likely to start posting.

    Didn't cnn do a report on soe getting caught padding there movie critic reviews?

    As well as plants padding reviews of various productions of theirs? Therefore it would not surprise me in the least that is happening as well esepcaily on the more visable boards.

    As a person who's worked in the public relations field and now teaches PR at University, I can assure you SOE uses "plants" to post. Word of mouth can sink a product fast and SOE knows this.

    SOE already has an in-house PR team to communicate with the players. Im quite sure they also post positive reviews on various forum sites. Its standard practice at most Fortune 500 firms.

    Speaking of Wepps...what the hell happened to him.
    I read a fair amount of his posts here and he seemd reasonably objective as far as swg goes.

    But that post on the swg forims was absolute fanboy gibberish. He may be free-basing unicorn giggles...its time for an intervention.
