I wonder how long it'll take for people to cycle back to Wildstar once they get bored again with ESO's combat. And then when Warlords of Draenor releases, see you all there I guess lol.
Seriously, the whole time I was playing Wildstar, all I thought was "God I miss ESO."
It was the emotional equivelent of fooling around with a chick you had a crush on in high school, after you and your EX just broke up. Only to realize that chick from high school was actually pretty skanky, and your EX just liked to have fun and didnt restrict you or do anything wrong really, you just didnt know you wanted her cause you were spoiled by all the other MMO's (I mean chicks) out there....
It was really the combat for me, Wildstars combat is like an awkward handjob while ESO's is at least different yet satisfying. I never left a battle in ESO feeling like my time was wasted, Wildstar it just felt like the same back and forth motion Ive felt a thousand times in the past, nothing exciting, nothing new.
Alright look my analogys are starting to blend together but the point is, I seriously want ESO back and Ill do anything to have her...I mean it...
Wildstar was the fastest I've ever uninstalled a new game. I really wanted to like it because of the hype, and everyone else seemed to love it at the time but I just couldn't find the reason at all. I enjoyed some real shit games longer than Wildstar
Wildstar was the most ackward game I ever tried to play. It takes cartoony way past the WOW threshhold. WOW was a little cartoony and got away with it, this one is a lot more cartoony and won't. You could change the skins around just a little and call it Loony Toons online.
Whats really sad is ESO and Wildstar are even the top 2 games right now. Its hard to believe just looking at these two games is what all the genre and development has to offer players after all these years. It really can't get better than this. If you look at it,it was a bad year for the mmo to me. Its hard to believe no game has had the impact on the mmo community like Wow has yet after all this time. And trust me when wod comes out both of these game will see huge drops in players. And that will say alot about how people really feel about them. Most of the players in both games are just waiting for wod to hit.
I am in the exact opposite boat as the OP. I love the combat in WS but I have a hard time dealing with the cartoony graphics. I just resubbed to ESO and the combat feels much slower paced but it's an amazingly beautiful landscape and I am enjoying the story.

Heh, that's actually a pretty good analogy for how it felt to me too. I just hand to end up back in ESO's silky smooth arms. She forgives and forgets. She's a good woman.
Wildstar is like that chick that you want to love, but only if she changes her attitude (bugs, clunky combat, FPS issues). She would be an awesome wife one day if she would just grow up.
Currently Playing: ESO and FFXIV Have played: You name it If you mention rose tinted glasses, you better be referring to Mitch Hedberg.

I can certainly see how WS would impress more if you are a reviewer who plays for a week and never looks at the game again. And that's why we got the reviews and scores we did. Long term, by which I laughingly mean you play a MMO more than two months, TESO shines.
Of course if you were a content locust and and got to top level in three to four weeks the shine is going to rub of a lot more quickly than for the rest of us.
WS has a chance to do better, just as TESO has. Just as I laughed at players counting out TESO, same goes for WS, the quality of P2P shines in a F2P market. That gives them a big edge.

ESO is exactly like that ex from highschool. You guys reconcile, and try and pick up where you left off. Little by little you begin to find out she gave out a few handies in the parking lot to a few of the guys on the lacrosse team to get in with the "cool crowd", and got double teamed at a party.

I disagree completely. Ultimately I didn't buy either game (for various reasons) but I enjoyed WS's combat more.
It possibly depends on which profession you played in Wildstar. Their mechanics and playstyles are quite different.
Personally I'm anti cooldown-driven combat, i.e. the norm for just about every MMO. It's a pet hate of mine. So in theory I should have enjoyed ESO's combat a lot more than Wildstar's. But I didn't.
I think Wildstar beats ESO on a few key points.
At least during the late stages of beta when I tried ESO, combat was incredibly easy for solo content. There wasn't any sense of challenge or skill being required. In contrast Wildstar had that. You levelled and got new abilities and combat difficulty increased in step with that. So I never felt like WS's combat was like most other MMOs.
Wildstar's professions are reasonably well designed. Not perfect but pretty good. Personally I strongly prefer open, classless systems like Morrowind. But one advantage class based systems can have is providing a distinct flavour to combat and Wildstar does that well. I ended up appreciating that more than ESO's semi-open character development.
I said from day one that Bill from this site was making Wildstar into something better than it is. I tried it, tried to have an open mind even though the 'stylized cartoony graphics' that bill thinks age so well aren't really my thing. All I kept thinking while playing why am I playing this? I didn't like the story. The PVE quests were mundane. I mean, how can a site rate something so high when 1/2 of the game (PVE) is filled with mundane questing? The combat killed it for me. Just couldn't take the overdone telegraph system.
Anyway, the fact that ESO even on this site consistently has had at least double the hits that Wildstar has had even in Wildstars first month is saying something.
ESO is not perfect by any means, but the latest patches are a big step in the right direction and once they implement the Veteran fixes and the Justice System, this game will be what I think it should have been at release....especially now that bots and bugs are minimal or non existent. In fact, I haven't had any spam for weeks now in chat, mail, or otherwise.
PS I LOVE the new Dye system :-).
PSS They need to fix the guild system....ETA is suppose to be tomorrow :-)

lol, I was going to post, but you summed up exactly how i feel.
Hurray! More poo on the way.
ESO felt more like masturbation to me.
But ESO has corn in its poo.

Wildstar was not bad in my OP. maybe a 7.75. But ESO in my opinion is hands down better.
In ESO i can actually get immersed.

[mod edit] ESO was an amazing experience an each hour played in that game was great. Of Course if you not a grind monkey.
Will return when they add more vet lvls and spell craft
