Questing in AA is tutorial , its showing you the rope of the game mechncis functions while giving you a sense of progression.
Do you go swimming in real life without some sort of training, or do you skip basic swimming lesson and attempt to swim yourself properly? you can mvoe out of questing at level 15 and once you get a farm up you can just get exp from farming crafting, trading. You dont need to be forced to do questing.

Yea, Questing is Tutorial, PvE is practice for the sake of progression. I don't really see what people are up in arms about, but then again, it is easy to complain and more difficult to appreciate.
Games are designed for different people and that is a good thing, a nice feature about Archeage is that it will be free to try. However, I do think Free players should be able to create auctions, and that is my only gripe about the F2P vs Patron argument. the Labor system could also use a few adjustments, might be a bit too strict in certain areas for F2Pers.
Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile

there is a reason why mortal online, and darkfall has a small niche community.
Those sandboxes dont hold your hand, there are theme park players who first log into those games and is confused as to what to do and they get bored and log out and uninstall the those games.
the quest is there to introduce new themepark players to sandbox features. So they dont feel they are lost, avoiding what mortal online and darkfall has been.
Good news is that beta is positive, and various wow guilds and its members are hooked. They may subscribe to both wow and archeage.
this isnt just 1 person i talked to who has been playing wow for 7 years, he tried darkfall online. Told me he doesnt know what to do wasted 1 to 2 hours trying to figure out what to do what and is frustrated uninstalled the game.
there were other players who are new to the feature sandbox mmo and have been playing wow for 7-8 years is saying the same thign about dark fall online.
Are you kidding me? No MMO veteran needs to learn how to quest, craft, trade, farm, etc. If it's targeted at new players to the genre, then yes, that's fine. I can also use analogies too. Veterans of the genre are like the Coast Guard, not the 5 year old needing lessons (although sometimes they act like one ).
If you are used to being spoonfed everything at the start it is very excessive but tutorials, actual well built ones, can last for most of the game ( remember when in Mass Effect 1 you unlocked the prestige class? did it not give you a small tutorial on that?).
some sets you up with the basic gear also. So far my questing has given me a horse, a rowboat, a basic glider, a house, small farms, a large farm, 2 battle pets, a clipper and all my basic armor and weapons. I am still waiting for Trion to tweak the archeum drops so that I can replace my quested gear with crafted.
I miss DAoC
Talk about people looking for problems...supposed rpg gamers too that hate the thought of a quick quest chain that ends either when you want or level 30 by design...
archage quest system allows those new players who have been playing wow for years, and themepark expose them to sandbox features through quest systems, baby steps. show them that these new sandbox eatures in archage is unique and fun. Let them know that these features are not found on world of warcraft, or other themepark features mmorpgs. they will come in droves and subscribe to archeage.
Unfortunately other game developers cant figure out why the themepark players or casual players wont give sandbox games a chance.
XLgames understands casuall players, and themepark players. If by the end of the questing tutorials and your still not convinced that these sandbox features are not as good as world of warcraft, then those players will still stay with world of warcraft.
