My ethics and what is F2P and what is not, what is right and what is wrong will not change. The fact of Trion being an incompetent , greedy and shady company with this game will not change. How stupid XL Games handled the updates in Korea will not change. I will still say what is there to say in game or through online forums. That is non-negotiable.
However, one thing I cannot deny about this MMOrpg.
It makes me feel like home; pre WoW-era
And I am pretty confident ex-Aion/Lineage players will get that feeling as well as I predicted they would some time back. Nostalgia is the strongest feeling we MMO veterans have but also the most dangerous one; it is our downfall because it is our weakness. When I saw the public chat of people trashing eachother, people talking about anime, people moaning and bitching about everything you can think off at the same time, it put a smile on my face. I felt like nothing has changed. It felt "It is good to be back home again".
I guess I just have to accept my curse. My sadistic grind-to-death hardcore PVPer side of myself as an MMOrpger will always get the best out of me.

I understand what you are saying.. The only thing I dont like is how the f2p players will be gimped a bit in the labor part..
But this game really hit home with all the drama and bitching.. The fights between guilds and making alliances.. I leave on Trial Chat just to watch who gets sent to jail and who doesnt, the to me is super fun but taking a break from alpha until launch I believe.. I get back on to check whats new after patches..
I think if ppl can understand the game really is slow and boring at first but once you start lvling in the other factions area.. and becomes a lot better, a lot more fun, always having to watch your back the mountains and everything else.. Now they changed it to where you get exp for killing other faction players.. so it just made it even that much more fun to get a group together and go hunt players down in war times..
I can't wait for the game to launch its going to be a lot of fun..
Wow that was a difficult read, it was all over the place.. and I don't agree with the Trashing Trion introduction.
I do agree that I certainly felt that "At home" feeling, which I haven't felt since WoW & Rift which are the only two games I have stuck with, really.
I Instantly recalled my past experience with Korean MMOs as well and it had a nice, yet intimidating feel to it in terms of PvP and Grind. Good news though is the grind in this game is short to max level. And the gear grind is mostly crafting; kind of happening in the background while you collect Gilda Stars and PvP and some of the sandboxy stuff. It's like killing two birds with one stone in my opinion.
Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile
The LP is really a pain in the ass. I can vote for that as well. I am secretly believing that it will get fixed but we all know how it will go (Hello NCsoft and Hello to you too Gameforge). Unless miracles do happen and maybe for fucking once an MMOrpg with a huge potential will reach its huge potential.
To be honest questing has been so hard-wired to me that I personally didn't mind that much. It is still an issue though for any sandbox-minded player and criticism is expected. You can't just expect players up to level 30 to enjoy a "tutorial" mode. They are going to make changes 1.7 in Korea with the whole tutorial business but yeah that is not the point either. We will not get it when we should. And this game needs that change now. Anyhow.
The Trial Chat was entertaining as hell. It was just unbelievable the type of conversations that were happening. And when the chat exploded with "This guild sucks. Bunch of noobs" it was full house for me. Good old days.
It is up to Trion really to play the ball. Does it want millions of players or does it not? If this game was done right from the beginning (which was no science about what they should have done it and how) 3m registered for beta would have easssssssy. I know the thirst for a sandbox is massive.
TRION LOCALIZATION IS TERRIBLE LOOT WORSE THAN ON RUSSIAN like 10 times
QUEST RARELY GIVE LVLING GEAR ... Gear didn't drop at all gold didn't drop 200 mobs no item no gold droped only 36 sacks which are opened with labour points . Trion greedy as hell
It was only a reference to a thread I have made in here regarding F2P culture and ArcheAge. I am not trashing Trion. I have been following them religiously and they just act like a typical public company. I won't go into the "No tricks, No traps, No trials" bullshit again because I am done with that matter. Anyhow.
The thing is JD what I personally think the MMOrpg majority with Korean Grind didn't understand or never really appreciated was that no matter how much they trashed it (although they did grind 24/7 in the end) is that grind in those days was a means to always have an aim. That is how progression or interest was kept alive. If you had no reason to grind you had no reason to log in. There was nothing else to do. And since the worlds were PVPVE there was always something to aim for for various reasons.
Don't get me wrong. I am not foolish enough to glorify grind but the philosophy of grind at that time and at that place was perfect. Players with X gear set were rarely "terribad". And yes Korean MMOrpgs back in the day were extremely terrifying (I used to group up and PVP with a legion called Korean Pride so I know the feeling) as well as other issues. But I still think the benefits outweighted the negatives in the larger picture.
I don't think Trion makes as much money as they would like to lead on about how big of a company they are.. I don't see them as "greedy" granted they aren't overly-generous, I would say they are an average company in the business (no worse, no better) and they are trying to survive with their games, and playerbase.
I enjoy PvP, and I enjoy even and fair PvP for the most part. I don't mind a level grind, but it has to be acceptable to me. At some point I want to be on a level playing field with everyone else, and I felt that Korean MMOs I just lagged behind.
Despite all that I like the themes, art style, and feel of eastern MMOs much more than western. AA for now is giving me a lot to work with on my wish list.
Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile
Just wanted to publicly apologize to my stupid post in the other thread. One of those days. So I am really sorry.
Anyway,
It is true that with how MMOrpgs are these days you are right. And it is true that until now we do not have proof that a "niche" MMOrpg will not reach 1m+. However I still do believe that with the right decisions and the full exploit of the concept of sandbox that can be achievable. I only say that because other types of games have showed us.
Minecraft, Souls Series, ect. I just don't think we have found the right formula yet. I just think we are missing the right steps to evolve an MMOrpg like that.
questing is bad to start with but questing at lower lvls now is really bad imo.. with the update to 2.0 and the TTK(Time To Kill) they put this in b/c there was to many 1-2 shot characters rolling stuff and mobs have way more hp then in the original I first started on and really really enjoyed b/c it was a good one but just need a bit of tweaking..
Now a lot of things ppl were making money on you can no longer do that in this version of AA.. which really sucks..I really do hope they listen to the mass amount of ppl waiting this game to be like it was and labor to change.. but a lot of us are not willing to give to get.. if that makes sense..
Only time will tell eh?
Btw what faction did you roll and in my honest opinion do not go pirate in beta or alpha you will be bored out of your mine since atm there isnt enough action atm for pirates..
You are so wrong I have both Rusian and trion on trion 200 mobs nothing droped except sacks gold from mobs didn't drop at all . On Russian I had inventory Full Achium Drops Armor weapons drop Lot of potions drop
I waited Trion but fuck it . Mail Ru is much more F2p friendly , and better Overhaul
With the game releasing as F2P it may get quite a bit of interest, the problem really is the whole PVP thing, it just depends on how much of the game can be played without having to get involved with the PVP, as that will probably affect player numbers, but even so, i wouldn't expect there to be more than 350k people actively subbing to the game at any one time, which might represent 1/3rd of the active playerbase, although that might be a tad optimistic.
When the game finally releases then maybe we will get a better idea of its popularity, at the moment there is no clear indication either way, i don't think though that AA is going to be one of those 'overnight successes' its probably a game that will have to 'persuade' people to try it out, and thats the kind of thing that can take years, word of mouth is going to count heavily on this game, along with the lets play youtube community not to mention reviews, and all it will take to get the negativity flowing is if there is a large volume of gank vids on youtube, and once that happens a game is often labelled as having a 'toxic community' you only have to look at Eve Online for how easily that can happen, the fact that its almost always inaccurate doesn't really help.
