It's a month old and may have been seen by the fanbase but for someone like me who follows the game casually, it was a fairly impressive showcase for fans of the Sandbox genre.

If someone cannot see the potential of AA after a weekend of closed beta play, then the game is most likely not for them.

AA is not a game that entertains you with awesome quests, events and epic achievements. It's a game that provides you with the framework to create your own events and epic achievements. The quests are real, because the "quests" are actually the things that you set out to do for yourself.

If you just want to logon and kill stuff/players and collect phat lewtz, AA will be boring as hell very quickly. Almost anything worth doing takes planning, preparation and effort. The satisfaction of seeing it all come together is something that you rarely experience in mainstream MMO's outside of EVE-Online.

And just like EVE, you CAN do most things solo in AA, it's just much, much easier as part of a good guild.

I watched that vid a week or two back....you're right it is a good showcase for the sandbox features, particularly as I have not purchased yet so dont have access to the beta.

That video along with some videos on deep sea treasure hunting, fishing, boat building and trade runs that can be found in the AA Guides thread on this forum, were the things that made my mind up about playing the game :)

You wouldn't believe the unbelievably huge grind required to do those things that you say you're looking forward to. Huge, tedious, grind.

The grind isn't bad at all really.  I've played casually for 2 weeks and got to lvl 30. Now I know the leveling from 30-50 would be a lot longer but what kills most mmorpgs is the lack of endgame content to keep people entertained for the long haul.

Most mmorpgs, ESO included, keep people entertained only until they finish the grind and then they start to lose interest. That's what hurts most mmorpgs.

I see Archeage as a game with a vibrant community that I can hopefully play for a year+ (that's the dream most of us have I suppose with mmorpgs). The only thing that hurts that ideal from people realized isn't an above average leveling system but what stuff we can do in the endgame.

Thanks for the friendly warning :) but I cut my mmorpg teeth playing SWG Pre CU...grinding doesnt bother me at all....in fact I find it sometime theraputic in a wierd way but can completely accept if I am "on my own" with that sentiment lol
