Can players enjoy themselves through PvE in this game?
if so, explain the fun PvE elements of Archeage that can spend a year or more doing and still remain enjoying the game?
have any cool PvE media you would like to share?

I don't know. As a system its extremely basic (no deep story surrounding it) but functional. Though not deep the story is mildly interesting supported by motion comic cutscenes.
Currently enjoying the game at level 25. I plan to build a house, explore and craft. But the more I play the more I look forward to PvP (which I hate) mostly because it introduces a sense of random realness to playing everyday. What mob is better than another person? The question will be balance.
As far as I know there are a few dungeons and open raid enemies like the dragon. But I am no where near being able to experience that content.
So I am looking forward to solid PvE with interest to dabble in the PvP to see how viable it is.
If you think that AA is the PVE game for you, you are mistaken. There's no PVE in that game "a la WoW". The PVE content is really limited and is redundant. It doesn't have any appeal because most of the dungeons are the same and personally farming/crafting doesn't count as PVE
The PVP is really awesome though, I have nothing to say about it but only hope that XLG balance the classes.
I don't look at questing as the only component of PvE. To me I sum it up into the things I can do in the world to progress without fighting another person. Crafting looks interesting here and OK to farm/grind mats.
We'll see.
Last thing's entirely untrue. You can build a farm in any of the low level zones and craft/trade in that region. You more than likely wont see any pvp. You also wont make as much money or have access to high level materials, but that's his choice. He can buy those things and turn a profit as a craftsman. That's a basic in any semi-realistic economy. It's very difficult to control all aspects of production anyway, and often requires a guild, and he may very well find himself a helpful crafting guild that amkes his work much easier and more profitable.
I doubt you'll enjoy the PvE in this game. I like the game, but I havent even seen one movie from the main quest yet. Dont plan on it either.
Main focus of the game, in my opinion, is the PvP. The best rewards are from things you do in PvP areas. Trade packs, the best for making gold and gilda stars, are from PvP areas.
The quest blow are easy, just fillers so you can get xp, gear and gold. Nothing more. They are easy as pie too. Basically you get a quest, kill things. kill more things to Overachive the quest ( more xp), kill more of the same things to get the Hidden Quest. Turn in quest.
The green quest, story line quest are talk to so and so, go from point A to B, collect gilda stars.. sometimes they change it up and you have kill something.
If you consider crafting PvE, then you have more choices, but are limited by MANY factors. Labor Points bein the biggest. Then theres the 20 crafting skills . You need to plan what you want for a skill. You cannot get them all.
Each profession has 5 different levels of mastery- Basic, Novice, Veteran, Expert, and Master.

Do mobs drop anything (besides LP point required money pouches) or is killing the mobs for "fun" and 'profit' (with some rares and resources?) a waste of time? I only got to about lv20 and i noticed that none of the mobs drop anything of interest.
I'm talking about regular mobs, not world bosses / dungeon mobs/bosses
They have a chance, very small chance of dropping gear. I got 2 armors of mobs in CB2. I also got to about lvl 20 questing and hunting. Made lvl 26 crafting and building.
Pouches have a chance, again a small chance, of dropping archeum dust. For crafting.
No. Killing mobs is a waste of time...
They do not drop anything interesting. The dungeon ones drop some gear but IMO they are inferior to even the easiest to get crafted ones... You can not also earn any significant amount of gold killing mobs...
The classes are also get maxed out fast, so you wont need the XP either...
Like others said, this game is not based on PvE experience, that is the reason why the game lacks voice overs, cinematic story telling etc. It is all about getting your classes maxed asap and starting the endgame of PvP, crafting, city building, naval battles, pirating etc...
That's quite disheartening, Because the "sandbox" elements you mention like building, farming, pvp etc are quite limited. Even the mother of sandboxes UO had 'proper' PVE, where mobs dropped valuable items, materials etc. If the mobs are truly that redundant, where does all the awe and rabid fanboyism come from? It's not like housing and pvp hasn't been done better elsewhere plenty of times.
The sandboxy element is not limited. Just try to go out at sea, into enemy lands. You do get some stuff out of mobs. Very small chance for drops. the purse als have a very small chance at getting crafting dust.
Not sure what game you have played that has better housing, or better pvp. Looking at your list of games played and currently playing tho....
Then i see you haven't played many of the games i have listed (the list is also outdated and currently playing nothing)
Depends on your definition. There are no real raids. There are a few dungeons. Mobs dont drop much. But you can d other things, and its not just PvP.
Granted the depth is very shallow but its not dry either.
But if the game had dungeons and a lot of quest people would claim its themepark (more than they already do).
The game has a little bit of everything and the 'best' definition I can come up with is that it is a blue print of what could be an incredible game. They set a skeleton stage and a nice base to build on. It has a little bit of everything and not a lot of anything. Even the PvP everyone is crowing about is done half assed in most areas. But the foundation is there with proper development and some funding to make a full fledged awesome game. Not sure if that is the goal or not. It has failed everywhere it has been released so they obviously arent making money, if it can make money here who knows.
Seconding the disheartening feeling.
I was hoping to get a very EQ/Vanguard feeling as far as PVE goes with tons and tons of open world public dungeons that require groups to get through and accomplish anything with lots of dangerous places to get lost in.
It is what it is and i don't expect the essence of the game to change. I guess i just wanted it to be something it's not. Oh well.
It is sad but the cut scenes in AA are worse than the ones in GW2. In GW2, they are at least important to the story, in AA they are window dressing.
This game is all about Open World PvP and Guilds. If you are not in a guild or don't like open world PvP, then you probably will not like the game.
As far as crafting, etc. - that takes money, RL money. In game everything costs LP. LP is your limited resource, very limited - as a F2P player, you end up with 60 LP every hour and max, I think is 3K LP for F2P, 5K for Founders pack. You want to build a ship? Well that is minimum 3 days worth of LP and that is without the plans, etc which cost gold. This game is all about how much money Trion can generate (not saying there is anything wrong with that at all - they are a for profit company) BUT, this bait and switch tactic is very sad to see.
This man gets it. Its a MMO, not a solo game. You need friends and a guild to do stuff!. ESO is a solo MMO. you can do just about anything solo in ESO. Hell, its hard to do anything in groups!
The LP is not that hard to get, but you do have to plan for it. Its the throttle on the game. Makes sure the game isnt flooded with everything on day 1. IF you want, you can spend RL money to help you speed up things, but not really needed....In MY Opinion
Try to get a beta key,. Play it for yourself. GET some friends, make some friends Only real way to see if you like it ro not.
PS: They do give keys out on this site. 10,000 for each of the last 2 betas. They do go fast tho.
I have played most of the games you listed. Including many "easterm junks".
I'm in the beta.
The aspect i looked forward to the most was the class system and the ability to create my own style. Then i realized everyone will be playing a mage with stealth because everything else is subpar.
Ahh, Ok. Thought you didnt try the game yet.
